John Carver Given More Responsibility At Newcastle

John Carver was asked about the news this week that Andre Ayew had been offered a pre-contract by Newcastle, and John was asked if he knew about that and whether he was being involved in the transfers by Lee Charnley and Graham Carr.

Andre Ayew

Andre Ayew – Newcastle offered him a pre-contract

The way things work at Newcastle on transfers is that there are three people involved and of course all transfers are overseen by owner Mike Ashley and he has the final say on all transfers.

It’s not unlike it’s done at top clubs like Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

Newcastle seem to be in the process of both identifying players and starting to move for some of their transfer targets, and it seems that Carver is being involved in that process.

This is the one question and John’s answer that was interesting about the middle of the press conference yesterday.

Question from journalist:

“Andre Ayew was in the papers this week with news suggesting he was offered a pre-contract by Newcastle – is he a player you are aware of and were you consulted on him?”

John’s answer:

“I know about him because I watch a lot of European football with your coverage and other people’s coverage, so I do watch a lot of football, but I’ve said from day one there is a process in the club and I’ll be part of that and if and when it happens you will be the first to know.”

We suppose it’s only natural that John is being brought into the discussions on the transfer targets for the summer, and some will say that’s a clue that he will get the job full time in the summer.

But John’s results as the interim head coach are not good, with only two wins in ten games, and he will have to do a lot better than that if he is to get the job full time in the summer.

Another question is whether John will be on the coaching staff if and when another head coach is brought in.

If it’s Remi Garde it looks like John will not be part of the coaching staff since Remy wants to bring in his own people.

However, John would still be the  easy choice for Graham Carr and Lee Charnley – if not a good choice – and as we’ve said before maybe he’s too easy a choice.

John Carver being appointed as head coach at Newcastle would not be well received by Newcastle fans , and that’s probably a huge understatement.

What do you think?

Youth players I’d like to see promoted next season:
    Jamie Sterry
    Lubo Satka
    Possibly Remi Streete
    Olivier Kemen
    Callum Roberts
    Possibly Haris Vuckic

IMO Ryan and Johan should not be starting, as Jack has previously played at left back, Cabella / Obertan are more natural riht wingers and Abeid plus Riviere need a continuous run of games.

You’d think that involving Carver in transfers should be less of a priority than telling him to get better results?

But then Ashley doesn’t do football does he.

Perhaps it’s time to change the Club’s name to Newcastle United Player Sales Ltd?

Honestly, there really is something wrong with our coaching, cannot be a coincidence that three quarters of our squad are so injury prone. Massive clear out in staff needed in the summer don’t care who becomes head coach

Can’t see QPR sticking with Ramsey without an experienced manager coming in! Appointing from within never works in struggling sides! Complete overhauls are needed. Similar to at Newcastle! He showed huge tactical niaivity playing that young lad up against Bolasie and he got anhiliated!

having moved over to palace, pardew himself has managed to play a much more attacking game than he ever did here, is it really going to make that much a difference just getting a decent coach into our club?

in my view the players themselves are just as crap, willo, obatan, rivere all rubbish, saylor, raylor, arrons always injured, colo, jonas.. far too old and ones like perez are just to young to really cope with this pressure.

our team is totally and utterly sh1t.

if we still believe a manager alone can do it well martinez could be sacked this summer.

Glad to hear it. Like the kids names btw. Out of interest have you heard of a tv show called Vikings? It’s on the history channel but isn’t a documentary or history show. It’s more drama intertwined with guts and gore. Currently into its third season. I love it. His wife is delicious lol.

The club will never be held to account. Over anything. That’s not how the slug operates. Any defiance is immediately crushed – paper and individuals banned.

Us fans? An annoyance they choose not to listen too never mind acknowledge the existence of (for those who point to the fan’s forum – a requirement handed down from FIFA and a shambolic one at that). We do not matter to the club’s future it seems. If he could rid the club of us fans and play behind closed doors so to speak he’d take it in a heart beat I have no doubt.

@jamestoon – remember a coach/manager saying ina while back that knocks, breaks and ligaments are bad luck but muscle injuries are completely the fault of the club, coaches and training program. I notice we’re having a fair few muscle injuries…

hey have said it themselves on soccer saturday, this club is run as a total buissness and it could continue for a number of years because as long as we remain in the PL he gets the money.

even them question why the fcuk fans still insist on travelling to games!

Lindidfarne. I totally agree fans should go through thick and thin to support their club . I have done it for 45 Years so nowt wrong in that . However , when you look and realise there is no light at the end of the tunnel because of our owners intention of crippling our once great club leaving us without a shroud of doubt that we will NEVER be great as long as he is he , i for one can’t accept that . He is only here coz 50,000 want a day out and pay him to wreck our dreams . If you are not bothered , that is your prorogative .

Exactly, I’ve been saying that for a long time, our squad is poor. People are looking for someone to blame. Yes we could do better with the right coach but we’re limited.
Pardew would be under a lot of restrictions under Mash. He’s inherited a far better hungrier side in Palace.

50,000 so called fans are bringing this sh1t on our club. Trouble is most actually think we have a v good side.

Not sure we have a poor side – if everyone we should choose was fit at the same time. The mackems are a poor side, if you need a touchstone for one. We have been without a decent organised tactical manager for so long that assembling a decent side for match day is an established aversion.

Those who insist on giving the blog a running commentary of the present success of a past manager as some sort of cautionary example are as relevant as those rhyming on about Bangladeshi cricket or Italian rugby union…on a Toon blog.

Pardew’s chickens will come home to roost, don’t worry about that. But it will be a passing curiosity when it does, by then hopefully we will have a new coach and some new players. Hopefully it will also usher in some new posters 😉

    Riviere arma

I think that is our best midfield. Colback the link between def & mid. Sissoko & Riviere da link between mid & attack. Riviere doin all da holding up play, arma can score da goals & get vital experience while cisse is out
