Newcastle must have just about the weakest squad right now of any clubs in the Premier League, and five teams that are still below us in the league won their games over the weekend and gained three points on Newcastle.
John Carver – tough job for any manager
They included Burnley, who amazingly beat Manchester City at home and deserved the win, and when you compare their performance with Newcastle’s performance at Everton yesterday – there was no comparison.
Burnley are still 3rd bottom but their players were pumped up and the team as a whole played well, and as we said, they deserved all 3 points on the day.
Newcastle are now 10 points above the drop zone, and that deceased by 3 points over the weekend, we were 13 points above the drop zone before the weekend.
Our goal difference seems to be getting worse too, and we still need a couple of wins from somewhere to be safe this season.
Here are the games we have left this season.
March Sat 21 15:00 H Arsenal April Sun 05 16:00 A Sunderland Mon 13 20:00 A Liverpool Sun 19 16:00 H Tottenham Sat 25 15:00 H Swansea City May Sat 02 15:00 A Leicester City Sat 09 15:00 H WBA Sat 16 15:00 A QPR Sun 24 15:00 H West Ham
The best chance we have of points are against the current bottom four sides – Sunderland, Leicester City and QPR, and with those sides fighting for their Premier League existence they will not be easy games either.
We have no chance against Arsenal, Liverpool or Tottenham and Newcastle will need to protect our worsening goal difference in those games.
And we cannot see how it’s possible to make it a top ten finish this season – no way.
It’s not looking good at the moment, and it’s getting very difficult to see how Newcastle will ever have a successful team on the field, given the policies Mike Ashley has put in place at the club, where money is still all important.
We just don’t see it.

Comment #81So its no Collo or Taylor for the derby then meaning Willmot and Dummett at CB. Or is Dummett injured as well. I’m struggling to keep up with it all. We are fcuked either way for the derby anyway as we’ve shown in the last 4 games we have no clue on how to approach it.

Good call. At last some realism. This team should pass the 40 barrier (unless we get a few more suspensions!)

Comment #86Why did Janmaat not slide for the 3rd goal yesterday? He literally had his foot about a centimeter from the ball. There was only one place it was going to go. If he had slid he would have saved it or very least put it in his own net for the OG. Then at least we would have had one of our players on the scoresheet. Psychological victories are often the greatest victories to win.

Comment #89The club can make a profit if no fans turned up to any game. It would fold if TV money was not forthcoming. Ashley is in it for the money and is beholden to the TV companies and not the fans. Oh the irony. The people share really propping up Ashley are those who don’t go to the games and chose to watch it on the box. Mick Lowes also made some excellent comments on Radio Newcastle this morning about money and what it has done for mediocre club owners and players alike.

Comment #90@lesh – think the North East media will pick it up even if the club did post the accounts on the sly. I imagine all of them have questions and headlines pre-prepared for it too! Specially the telegraph who are still banned. If the club did post on the quiet the media would have a field day with it. Also think Charnley will try and use positive accounts to brainwash into thinking everyones doing a spiffing job

Comment #91The likes of Ashley are only the second most poisonous thing in the game today Sky and their ilk are the real problem. For those of you who chose to watch the game on TV & stop supporting a team on the box. Put down the remote and watch your local club. Get down to the ground – make some noise. If your not willing to do that, you’ll gave to stop belly aching and put up with whatever Sky and their like gave created. Sad to say but true

Comment #95yes ashley could survive without the fans turning up as the tv money will cushion him quite nicely.
However, the thought of having to divert some funds to somewhere else, ie to pay players wages instead of it’s usual pathfinder would be a bit galling for him.
Worse still and more embarrassing for ash would be the sight of half empty grounds where bums on seats and the customer are king.

Comment #97Were fans to stop going to games until we have a new owner, it automatically changes the value of the club. If the club value to Ashley is a lot lower than it is to another owner – this process would force Ashley to sell as it would be the most financially sound option available. (On the premise he could get a buyer to pay what the club is worth with a full stadium each week)
Fairly simple process, but as we already know, easier said than done.

If Carver is showing signs if confusion, it’ll be because he’s feeling the stress of the job.
Charnley and Ashley have shown no duty of care to protect him from himself.
Apart from Carver, and of course Charnley and Ashley who neither know nor care what pressure’s attached to the HC job, almost everyone that’s posted on here knew he wouldn’t be up to the job.
Ok, Carver overstated his enthusiasm to take the job on and probably regrets doing so now, but he’s out of his depth with his health at risk.

Comment #99Dind’t understand our line-up yesterday and Caver’s spouting off they will be tired and we’ll have a go at them.
Then why the F**k did we start with one up front and that being Riviere who has not scored in the premiership.
If you are going to start with Riviere then he has to be in a two man strike force – should of started with him and Perez up front – dropped ‘Overrated’ and had Cabella in for Goufran and went for it
I would of started with three at the back loaded the midfield with 5 and two up front.
but no he set up the team not to get beat

Comment #101No doubt the 4-2-3-1 formation will be played again before the end of the season. Carver will take a break from it for 3/4 games, after playing 4-4-2 and 4-3-3 again.
Going back to 4-2-3-1 and learning that it does not work, is a lesson that needs to be learned on a regular basis.

on the plus side no1 will want sissoko this summer he is a long way from a top 4 club player
the only player I fear losing is jannmatt who has had a good first season
what is nice to see is the players a firmly behind carver so far behind him they stayed in the dressing room yesterday
with some of the performance’s we have seen from players would it really hurt the club to bring in players like satka Roberts kemen
would have been nice to have had bigi here to give him another run
wont happen this season but unless things change all I can foresee is relegation next season

Comment #103Pardue was rubbish and when he moved on we were left with his bunch of wasters. All second class and not worthy of a place in a premiership team. If Carver and the support group brought in by Pardue are not moved on in the summer I will not be able to continue supporting the club and I encourage everyone to make to club notice by doing anything they can that will hit them financially.

Comment #104Newcastle under MA has been a mess for a long time, while he rakes in the mils and gets his beloved SD advertised.
But ST holders might realise one day they’re the victims of their own downfall.
We’re just a business to Mash as long as people keep filling up his pockets always expect mediocre at very best.
What a mess, the players don’t even seem bothered anymore.

Comment #105Poyets future on the line this morning in meeting with SUFC owners – who have targeted Fat Sam as his replacement – what is going on in this world !
Is Carver having a similar meeting – if not why not ?
Why don’t we bring in HBA on loan – as this wouldn’t add to the number of clubs he has played for – and one special goal ( no one else looks like doing that ) could deliver the 3 points we might well need to stay up.
Just saying like.

Comment #106You “just don’t see it” do you Ed?.
For years so called ‘neggers’ like me have ‘seen’ this and commented on it,(with Ashley licking opposition) so why has it taken so long for the penny to drop with you and many others on here?
The day that Ashley moved into this club with his mythical five year plans and disrespectful tight fisted attitude was the day this club started to die. It’s now almost ready for interment.
Bloody sad but oh so bloody predictable.

Comment #108Forget talk of change as the remit of treading water is an established fact. Sorry FACT!
I have often pondered during Ashleys tenure at what point he pivots from learning the ropes to having his hands firmly on the wheel of this club. I’m still coming down on the side of incompetence and ineptitude. it’s a flawless model as far as SD is concerned, as there are no financial or other business ties that could affect it should nufc fail, it can simply abandon nufc and walk away. Nufc is a disposable item. A throwaway asset. If we go belly up he won’t be out of pocket, it’s paid for itself. That’s why he leaves it to be run by idiots. Step forward, Lee ( we had no plan) Charnley

i think things are coming to a head for many people now. as you say if carver and his fellow goons are still here in july we know our fate.
sadly we probably already do as we are governed by a man who has employed wise ( a scrote), llambias (a failed casino owner) jfk (an alcoholic with vascular dementia) twice, pardew (a manager with no credible track record) etc.

Comment #111One of the things I really don’t like is the way the image of this club has been reduced to a head scratching bewildering spectacle, a humorous circus in the otherwise sporting seriousness of the game, something to point the finger at and laugh while being thankful that ‘ it’s not us’. Having the mackems in their abysmal condition only adds to the perspective that north-easteners are all loose jawed imbeciles with no pride or spine. Thanks Mike.

Only saving grace is that Jill Halfpennys family (from the NE ) thrashed Wes Browns family ( from the NW and of Makem tendencies ) by 550 points to nil on Family Fortunes ( yes I know but I am on the sick so watching day time TV is my excuse )
On asked to name a small bird ( eg. Wren or similar ), Wes Brown replied ” a pigeon” , his blonde missus ” a budgie” ! Dooh !
I nearly fell off the sofa and bust my stitches LOL
Surely Ashley would be more at home owning a club in Manchester or Bolton or Wigan or Oldham or for that matter any club as long as it’s not here.

supposedly Carver only played 126 times in his entire playing career, was he cleaning boots and filling the canteens for the rest of it or what??
Arsene Wenger only played 80
Jose Mourinho only played 74
You point being ?
Phil Neville said on MoTD that our team already had their flip flops on , which was true , but got me thinking .I wonder if their attitude comes from knowing what is happening in June and being told to stay schtum.

Comment #117I think a big part of the problem is the fact that a lot of us over-rate our team. We are not the team we used to be and we are no where near that level.
I think mid-table is an over-statement for our squad. This is a team which starts the likes of Ameobi, Obertan and Gouffran. Then you have one of the worst managers in the league coaching our already bad team.
Yes, our team is possibly mid table when we have no injuries but you will still find people saying we should be getting into europe or top 8 with that team.
The sad fact is we are rapidly falling in class and it wont be long until we have the worst squad in the league. If the regime carries on and we do nothing we will be watching championship football pretty soon.
