There’s Still Some Small Hope For Tomorrow’s Game

It seems that Mike Ashley and Lee Charnley have told John Carver the obvious – that they should have brought some players in during the January transfer window to strengthen the squad, and of course the big news yesterday was that we are down to only 15 senior players with maybe two more coming back – after about three games – Coloccini after his suspension and Rolando Aarons is the only one who’s injured at the moment who isn’t out long term.

Ryan Taylor – could move to right back

That’s a very difficult situation to tbe in,. especially when we play an in-form Arsenal side tomorrow at home – and Arsenal are odds on (4-7) to win this game.

In fact it will be a shock if Arsenal don’t win, because a draw would be a great result for us, if we can get it.

This is what John has said about the game yesterday at his press conference:

“It’s a big challenge, I understand that and it’s my job to prepare the team right to put in a performance that responds to the Everton game.”

“We’ve battened down the hatches. We realise we are a small group at the moment and it’s going to be a difficult time, but the only way you get through these difficult times is by being together, being strong, being upbeat and still having a smile on your face.”

‘You’ve got to be careful when you play against sides like Arsenal. We’ve got to consolidate and make sure we don’t concede early, that’s for sure. Against a good side like this it will be very, very difficult to get the ball.”

“Their possession stats are one of the highest in the division, so they are a good footballing side and they like to play. So we are going to have to be patient but we do have one or two things up our sleeve when we get turnovers, and we will try to break them down.”

“When we play at home though, we just seem to have a different mentality. I remember coming up against Liverpool at home and Chelsea at home, where we had two great results. We didn’t put them under pressure – instead we had a nice shape to the team and we played out of the shape. We need to do the same thing.”

It should be a full house tomorrow, but it’s going to be very tough for the lads.

Ryan Taylor could move to right back – and Jonas could come in at left back, and the first 30 minutes are going to be very important, because the longer we can go without conceding the better it will be for Newcastle.

If we start like we did against Manchester City the game could be over as a contest very quickly.

We’re not sure who can score the goals for Newcatsle but Remy Cabella and Ayoze Perez must both start.

It looks like an almost certain Arsenal win – but in cases like this in the past – even this season with unbeaten Chelsea at home in early December, Newcatsle have produced the unexpected.

It would be a gigantic lift if Newcastle can get 3 points tomorrow and a draw would also be an excellent result for us – given the dire situation with our playing squad right now.

What do you think?

when under pardew and now carver have we ever had a “get up and at em” approach.

personally I would adopt that attitude, as it’s the last thing arsenal would expect, rather than just waiting to die with mindnumbing containment football

Rotonda…Firstly, don’t sell yourself short. JFK, Pardew, now Carver. Of course you’re good enough and a Geordie to boot.

Don’t worry about “get up and at em”, they have one or two things up their sleeves….aslong as we don’t concede early. It’s all sorted mate. Relax.

In Dumb and Dumber, Jim asked if he had a chance to date this girl. She replied, well, one in a million, and he said, triumphantly, ‘yes, there is a chance’!

    Same tomorrow 🙂

I have decided to have a large bet on Arsenal tomorrow, then when we get hammered at least I can pick up a few quid. Sadly, I used to back the Toon to win but now we’ve NO chance ????

Watching Derby County play some good football with a depleted squad and I think McCartney would be perfect for the Toon next season !

I truly hope many of the nay sayers who post on this blog don’t make it to SJP for the games. Who needs enemies with friends like those? HWTL!! Give a good account of yourselves.

    Predictions for the match:

    1) Carver will start with a bad formation choice – which always includes the ineffective Gouffron on his side.

    2) we are so kind that we give (minimum) 60% possession to the opponents even when we play at home.

    3) Won freekick? just pass the ball to Williamson – which will win 0/10 of it.

    4) Substitution? only done when we are losing.

    5) If you are playing fantasy football, you can just choose any of the opponents. Giroud can look like Messi/Ronaldo against us.

I suggest Cardew drafts in Charnley to play CM. It’ll give everyone a smile on their face and he also loves turnovers. Greggs can’t bake enough for him.

Personally I’d like to see Riviere play in defence. The lad has shown a canny ability to ensure the ball doesn’t find the back of the net…

My hope about the game today is the hope that the score is not like a cricket score! Oh and no-one else gets injured or a Red card!
