Is This Newcastle’s Best Team For Arsenal?

Interim coach John Carver had it right on Thursday when at his news conference he said there are only 15 senior players fit for the game today at home to Arsenal, so at least there will not be any selection problems.

But one question is who comes in at right full-back for Daryl Janmaat, who is expected to partner Mike Williamson at center-back.

Colo is suspended for three games and Papiss Cisse is still out for another six games and Paul Dummett, Steven Taylor and Massadio Haidara are all out injured.

This is the side we think John Carver will put out today against the Gunners in a 4-2-3-1 formation:

Taylor (R) Janmaat Williamson Jonas
Sissoko (c) Colback
Cabella Perez Ameobi
Subs: Elliot Satka Anita Gouffran Kemen Armstrong Obertan

Both Perez and Riviere start with Perez in the number 10 role for today’s game.

We have young Olivier Kemen on the bench – so it’s an opportunity for the young Frenchman to get experience of being part of the first team squad.

We are really down to the bare bones in the squad and three of the back four players are playing out of position.

That’s not good against such a good creative attacking side like the Gunners, who are currently in form having won their last five league games.

What’s your best Newcastle team for today’s game?

I don’t think we will get spanked today but we will lose one nil or two.
If we can keep it tight like man utd game though, we’ll have a chance to snatch a draw, nil nil like..
The important thing is not to conceed early on.Cabella & Perez must start tho!

sparky a lot of people have said janmatt can play centre back if that’s right then he needs not play there and satka on the right only cos I worry about him in the middle against arsenal they are in good form
Alnwick might not go on to be the best keeper but I bet his stint in goal for us shattered his confidence and I wouldn’t want to do that to another player

Absolutely agree there. Get them in, tell them they are going to get a fair crack at it. We will have some defeats coming up any which way you look at it now so jets go for it. I don’t buy this theory that its too early / it’d be damaging to them to get in the firing line. Kids play for years coming up through the ranks, competitions etc, obviously its not the pressure of the Prem / big crowds etc. The right kid will see it as a huge opportunity and go for it. The previous example of Alnwick flopping badly isn’t the same – he was just a poor keeper

Kabouls’ experience has not been going down well at Spurs, and allegedly not liked in the dressing room. If the Club are truly building for the future the transfer policy is fine as long as they also try to retain our quality players.

4 freebies that would boost our squad:
    Micah Richards
    Fabian Schar
    Andre Ayew
    Danny Ings

From the city players thread, i know it’s very unrealistic but someone like Jesus Navas would massively benefit our team as a classic out and out winger who has a good delivery. Transfer fee and wages would be a huge problem.

If only we could get their manager as well lol, what a dream it would be to have pellegrini

If Sissoko is played in a midfield pair we will get thrashed, we need a midfield three. Wenger should look to exploit the wings with pace but he may well think his superior team should win their own way. So I am not keen on the idea of two over 30s as fullbacks.

I am surprised Gutierrez has not been mentioned as a central defender as he has the strength and is used to using his body to get between an opposition player and the ball. Ryan Taylor could make a very good and experienced partnership with Janmaat on the right (like a latter day Beckham) and Obertan is a non entity at the moment. Not that Gouffran and Riviere are much better, but it may be too early to start Perez. As one of the most productive midfielders A lot is said about Colback not being moved away from the midfield, plus he left his previous club because he was used at fullback, but I think he is more professional and the most ready made player for the LB position.

    Janmaat must stay out wide.

I see no reason as to why he would be better at cb than taylor or even satka. It’s definitely not his game centrally and he is our biggest creator.

Can someone explain to me where the idea of Sissoko being a central midfield player came from? He’s not a great tackler, can’t pass more than 20 meters and is not a leader in my opinion. Ryan Taylor on the other hand can tackle and can hit pin point passes from anywhere on the pitch? I’m not suggesting Sissoko isn’t a smashing player but he needs to be given a much less restrictive role where he can hurt the opposition. Part of our problem with Pardew and now Carver is that our best players have very often not been allowed the freedom to “drop their hand grenades” so to speak. Find a role for Sissoo, Perez and Cabella and we may have a half decent team?

Sammy does lots of defensive work which is more than can be said about Obertan (who does even less than Ben Arfa), but the problem with Sammy is that he has a 65% passing accuracy which must be the lowest in the league by a huge margin. Saying that I’d play him above Obertan & Gouffran.
