News today that Manchester City could well be having a summer clear-out of their players, and that could even mean manager Manuel Pellegrini gets shipped out after what for City could turn out to be a disappointing season.
James Milner – former Newcastle winger
There’s news today in the Guardian that City could reportedly see Yaya Toure, Edin Dzeko, Bacary Sagna, Martin Demichelis, Aleksandar Kolarov, Micah Richards, James Milner, Samir Nasri, Stevan Jovetic, Pablo Zabaleta, Jesus Navas, Gael Clichy and Fernando all depart the Etihad Stadium in the summer.
Newcastle will be interested if there are any good deals available as City try to unload some of their players.
The report suggests that City are hoping to get around £50M for the players, but one problem for Newcastle could be their wages.
It’s also a problem for City, because when they have tried to unload players in the past, their wages have been the stumbling block.
City are selling to try to reduce their wage bill and put money in the bank, as they try to get out of the red with their financials and be able to meet the current Financial Fair Play Rules.
Newcastle were interested in defender Micah Richards in the past, but he is on loan at Fiorentina for the season, and if Newcastle were interested we would probably have tried to bring him in on loan last summer.
Former Newcastle winger James Milner is available, he’s now 29, but bigger clubs than Newcastle in the Premier League are already interested in him.
Micah’s contract runs out at City this summer so he will become a free agent, and Newcastle may try to do a deal for him in the summer.
But most of the other players are big names and too ambitious to want to come to Newcastle United.
