Remy Cabella And Ayoze Perez Both Start Against Arsenal

nufc emblemarsenal-fc-crest1

Ayoze Perez and Remy Cabella are both in the starting line-up for Newcastle today at home to Arsenal.

Newcastle(4-2-3-1): Tim Krul; Ryan Taylor, Daryl Janmaat, Mike Williamson, Jack Colback; Moussa Sissoko, Vurnon Anita; Remy Cabella, Yoan Gouffran, Sammy Ameobi; Ayoze Perez
Substitutes: Rob Elliot, Lubomir Satka, Olivier Kemen, Jonas Gutierrez, Gabriel Obertan, Adam Armstrong, Emmanuel Riviere

Arsenal (4-2-3-1): David Ospina; Calum Chambers, Gabriel Paulista, Laurent Koscielny, Nacho Monreal; Francis Coquelin, Santi Cazorla; Alexis Sanchez, Aaron Ramsey, Danny Welbeck; Olivier Giroud
Substitutes: Wojciech Szczesny, Hector Bellerin, Kieran Gibbs, Per Mertesacker, Mathieu Flamini, Tomas Rosicky, Theo Walcott

Referee: Mike Jones (Cheshire)

Vurnon Anita comes in at left back, Ryan Taylor switches to right back – and Daryl Janmaat, as expected, is switched to center-back in the absence of Coloccini, who got himself sent off in the last game.

It’s a huge test for the Newcastle back four, and a big test for both full-backs – who aren’t too used to be playing at full back.

The Newcastle players today, whatever happens, have to maintain their discipline, because we’ve picked up suspensions to  Papiss Cisse and Fab Coloccini in our last two games, and we can ill afford to have more players suspended.

It’s a tough game today, but our players know that,  and hopefully the lads can produce some good form after the debacle of last week at Goodison Park, where too many player seemed not to care, just like at the Etihad Stadium a few weeks before that.

We are surprised Gouffran keeps his place after a terrible second half performance last time out, when he gave away a stupid penalty, and he’s in the withdrawn striker role – which seems odd.

This is what John Carver has said about the game:

“I’ve had some big challenges in the past but this will be one of the biggest,” “It’s a big challenge, I understand that and it’s my job to prepare the team right to put in a performance that responds to the Everton game.”

“We’ve battened down the hatches. We realise we are a small group at the moment and it’s going to be a difficult time, but the only way you get through these difficult times is by being together, being strong, being upbeat and still having a smile on your face.”

“You’ve got to be careful when you play against sides like Arsenal. We’ve got to consolidate and make sure we don’t concede early, that’s for sure.” “Against a good side like this it will be very, very difficult to get the ball.”

” Their possession stats are one of the highest in the division, so they are a good footballing side and they like to play.” “So we are going to have to be patient but we do have one or two things up our sleeve when we get turnovers, and we will try to break them down.”

Only one in twenty fans think we can win this game today, with Arsenal currently on a five game winning streak in the Premier League.

With colocinni missing I am optimistic about today!

This is not a bad line up.
    Good to see Anita back

The key is Sissoko playing the role of a defensive midfielder properly.

I hope he understands his role today.
He cannot bomb forward with abandon

He is going to need to show disciplne
    And guard the back four.

Yep, hasn’t got the balls to play satka when we have nothing to lose.

Why is gouffran starting ahead of riviere/arma???

If there is 1 game in the Premier League calendar to play 4-2-3-1, this is probably it.

Still, Alexis Sanchez and Cazorla on the same pitch as Sammy Ameobi says it all for me.

I agree with the selection and formation, but the gulf in class is mammoth.

Ed You may be wrong about Anita playing left back
I think COlback is playing left back and Anita in midfield

Carvers hands pretty much tied vis a vis selection.
Got draw written all over it.
We might nick the game given some luck.

I know we are terribly short of players but how does Gouffran keep getting a start? Stick a fence post on one of the wings and it would do more good!

How’s the weather in Newcastle today? Cold and windy I hope! Maybe some hard rain!

I should probably use my time a little bit more constructive than watching this crap

Todays trouncing will be the lead story on the Sky Sports front. They are mainly pro Arsenal and have been for ages. So the embarrassment will be beamed worldwide – adding to our shame.

We might see the best of Anita today.

Krul, Willo, Haidara, Dummet and Colo all prefer hoofing it over the poor guy.

R.Taylor, Colback, and Janmaat are a lot more comfortable with the ball.

And Arsenal is for the taking when teams can get passed their initial pressure and with pacy players behind Mertesacker.

I can’t say that I’m comfortable with our back four defensively but should be an improvement offensively.

Similar scenario with Colback in middle and Anita as left back. Except Colback will be the pivot guy.

So Perez , Cabella and Sammy will be forced to track back where is Gouffran playing ?It better not be central midfield again !!!

Put him up front as its the only position he seems to put effort in

Anita should play right back with Colback left back and with Cabella Taylor and Sissoko in the middle with Perez and Sammy on the wings

But I doubt thats how we are going to play

Does not matter to be honest we will get pounded regardless of what we do

It’s bull saying Gouffran defends. Look at his stats. Both Sammy & Cabella make far more tackles and contribute far more going forward. The guy is a waste of space. Even worse than Obertan who is possibly the worst winger we’ve ever had.

Simply cannot see how he gets a place.
My super six prediction is 0-6
This could be a hiding I predicted before the mancity debacle
    Hope I am wrong
I also think Carver is saying all the right things touting himself for other clubs. He must know ash won’t keep him and risk relegation next season (if we stay up this season)

wish we’d just have a go. negative, defensive containment football has never got us anywhere. Much rather go down fighting, especially at home. Football under carver is as cowardly and uninspiring as his predecessor.

watch the football pass and move masters with 1-2’s, triangles, overlapping, 3rd man running and going beyond the man in possession etc against our static, immobile isolated and poorly coached 11 individuals

Only thing is Arsenal like Everton will be shattered. Oh wait…..
