Ayoze Perez and Remy Cabella are both in the starting line-up for Newcastle today at home to Arsenal.
Newcastle(4-2-3-1): Tim Krul; Ryan Taylor, Daryl Janmaat, Mike Williamson, Jack Colback; Moussa Sissoko, Vurnon Anita; Remy Cabella, Yoan Gouffran, Sammy Ameobi; Ayoze Perez
Substitutes: Rob Elliot, Lubomir Satka, Olivier Kemen, Jonas Gutierrez, Gabriel Obertan, Adam Armstrong, Emmanuel Riviere
Arsenal (4-2-3-1): David Ospina; Calum Chambers, Gabriel Paulista, Laurent Koscielny, Nacho Monreal; Francis Coquelin, Santi Cazorla; Alexis Sanchez, Aaron Ramsey, Danny Welbeck; Olivier Giroud
Substitutes: Wojciech Szczesny, Hector Bellerin, Kieran Gibbs, Per Mertesacker, Mathieu Flamini, Tomas Rosicky, Theo Walcott
Referee: Mike Jones (Cheshire)
Vurnon Anita comes in at left back, Ryan Taylor switches to right back – and Daryl Janmaat, as expected, is switched to center-back in the absence of Coloccini, who got himself sent off in the last game.
It’s a huge test for the Newcastle back four, and a big test for both full-backs – who aren’t too used to be playing at full back.
The Newcastle players today, whatever happens, have to maintain their discipline, because we’ve picked up suspensions to Papiss Cisse and Fab Coloccini in our last two games, and we can ill afford to have more players suspended.
It’s a tough game today, but our players know that, and hopefully the lads can produce some good form after the debacle of last week at Goodison Park, where too many player seemed not to care, just like at the Etihad Stadium a few weeks before that.
We are surprised Gouffran keeps his place after a terrible second half performance last time out, when he gave away a stupid penalty, and he’s in the withdrawn striker role – which seems odd.
This is what John Carver has said about the game:
“I’ve had some big challenges in the past but this will be one of the biggest,” “It’s a big challenge, I understand that and it’s my job to prepare the team right to put in a performance that responds to the Everton game.”
“We’ve battened down the hatches. We realise we are a small group at the moment and it’s going to be a difficult time, but the only way you get through these difficult times is by being together, being strong, being upbeat and still having a smile on your face.”
“You’ve got to be careful when you play against sides like Arsenal. We’ve got to consolidate and make sure we don’t concede early, that’s for sure.” “Against a good side like this it will be very, very difficult to get the ball.”
” Their possession stats are one of the highest in the division, so they are a good footballing side and they like to play.” “So we are going to have to be patient but we do have one or two things up our sleeve when we get turnovers, and we will try to break them down.”
Only one in twenty fans think we can win this game today, with Arsenal currently on a five game winning streak in the Premier League.
Newcastle will do very well to get anything at all out of this game today.
