Newcastle’s Transfer Targets May Change This Summer

An area where Newcastle have been weak all season is at center-back, and one reason is we loaned out Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa on the last day of the summer transfer window to Roma, and we were left with just three experienced central defenders.

Daryl Janmaat Everton+Premier+hB0eKEg29Cbl

Daryl Janmaat – future center-back?

It didn’t help on January 1st either when Steven Taylor suffered an Achilles injury and was declared out for the rest of the season.

Newcastle didn’t bother to replace Steven or Mapou (who was sold to Roma in January) , and so from January on we had only two experienced central defenders for the second half of the season.

Paul Dummett had been drafted in as an en emergency center-back and the feeling was that central defense could be Paul’s best position long term, and he put in some good performances in the middle of the defense, but he picked up a knee injury in January and he’s out for the season.

Then we had Colo suspended for three games, so we finally turned to Daryl Janmaat and like Paul before him, in his very first game at center-back against Arsenal, the Dutchman had a terrific game.

So it seems by chance we have uncovered two of our younger players (25 or younger) who show some promise at center-back.

Jamaal Lascelles, the 21 year-old we signed last summer from Nottingham Forest and loaned him out for the season, will join the first team squad in the summer.

So then Newcastle will  have Coloccini, Williamson, Taylor (S), Lascelles, Dummett and Janmaat who can play at center-back.

With Daryl looking so good, although it’s only after one game admittedly, the 25 year-old could even be converted to a central defender and from his comments after the game, he seemed to enjoy playing there.

Newcastle still need to bring in one central defender over the summer, but then maybe Newcastle through pre-season can pick the best four central defenders, and sent the rest out on loan – as long as they can be recalled in case of an emergency.

Or even sell some – maybe a couple – and with Steven Taylor’s contract up next year, don’t be surprised if he’s sold early in the summer.

Because of the form of Janmaat and Dummett at center-back,  it does give some options for Newcastle as to who plays center-back next season, and therefore who we need to bring is as far as defenders go.

So don’t be surprised if we see Newcastle linked with some good full-backs over the summer, and even right full-backs.

We have to hope that’s because Daryl could be switched to center-back next season, and not because Mike Ashley is going to flog him to the highest bidder.

What do you think?

I don’t like the idea of converting Janmaat into a central defender full time.

He’s got the most assists on our team and by moving him to the centre, we are definitely limiting what he brings to the team.

Bring in a natural central defender in the summer, and let Janmaat keep up his good work on the right.

of course we’ll sign some players in the summer, but don’t get to excited. They’ll be probably unheard of or from the second tier of spain, of course with future resale in mind.
Mash will spend just enough to keep us in the premier league and not a penny more.
expect more of the same next season.

I have no doubt at all that we will spend in the summer time simply because we have to again, it looked like we had done a lot last summer but the reality was that in 2014 there were ten players let go or loaned out that had played regular first team football and we signed and got back from loan eight players, this was to a squad that has always been desperately short of at least five players, if you take into account who is out of contract this year or will have to be sold as they’re going in to their last years and the fact that £25M will seem a modest amount to spend this time round due to the TV money, I can honestly seeing us struggle yet again.

Excellent idea that btw. Play the World Cup seni finalist RB at CB because there’s a little known Russian born German who can slot into RB at 1.5M nicker. He who dares Charnley, he who dares.

there are a few that need to let go but unless someone bids on them were stuck with until there contract runs out as Ashley wont pay out wages
obertan the amount of good games he has had in his time with us you can count on one hand he is on 40k a week
and he aint the only one

but who will buy these players no1
we would be better off seeing if they will take a smaller pay off and let them go on a free so we can bring in players that we will use and need

    Jail,

I tried numerous times to stop smoking without ever being mentally ready.

If a person doesn’t really want to stop doing something, they will welcome, cling to and invent any excuse not to do it.

I finally stopped when I finally realised that I had to stop listening to the nicotine whispering “C’mon, I’m your best mate. You need me.”

by rights we should still have the Mapou money to spend along with Santon’s pittance we sold him for.
I expect Mr T to venture to pastures new along with maybe Willo and saylor……Anita to.
There’s a healthy 20 mill plus budget to kick the summer spree off. But alas as we know nothing is as straight forward as that when it comes to Nufc

i saw the link to the Russian german rb i thought we were planning to sell janmatt not convert him to cb lol funny how that’s the first thing i thought off

    selling is more likely though
janmatt just doesn’t lool like a cb to me when we put dummet at cb he looked like a cb, rough round the edges and in need of learning his position but it seemed to suit him more than lb

We need to let colo and Taylor go for free and replace them with 2 good centre backs with lascelle and willo as back up. Then knowing janmaat and dummet can play there should we have a disaster.

Austin, Ings, mitrovic, lacazette imo are all realistic signings at the right price. 2 of these would do nicely to go with cisse and Perez.

Ayew looks a great player, hope we get him plus a creative midfielder to replace Anita and tiote.

It’s not even that much considering outgoings too.

santon fee seemed to cheap to me
but ur right we have got santon mbiwa cash already maybe pards fee as well lol
anita and tiote i think will be offloaded but for what we will recoup in those sales wont cover what we need
a decent striker with proven record £15 mill
    10 -12 for a centre back
abeid is not a tiote replacement like cabaye he looks like he is better further up the pitch he had a good goal and assist record last season
so we will need a decent holding mid right winger as well and that’s the bare minimum and 20 mill wont buy it

Rotunda, for the sake of your feebe brain, et me carify what I said, consistently about Pardew.
    – Pardew is an average, or below average manager
-He was lucky to get the NUFC job. It was recruitment with shady side, no doubt.
    – His defensiveness let him down a lot at times
    – His style of football was very british. Not the worst, not the best. It wasnt all long ball – only one real season of that
    – He didnt cause global warming
-He wasnt to blame for all
    – He had one great season, one awful, and some mediocre
    – I wasnt sad to see him go
    – It hurts seeing Palace do well under him.
-He was totally and disgracefully compromised at NUFC
-He was quite a decent man manager, overall
    – He was right on HBA
-I also agreed with his take on other players, eg Mbiwa
    – His bad results run was dreadful and he deserved the sack for that, and the headbutt.
    – He cleverly left NUFC for a pay rise, to move home.
    – Many NUFC fans were fools for blaming him for absolutely everything .
-He couldnt win with small minded fools like you who disappeared off the site when we beat Chelsea etc
    – We have replaced him with a worse manager, probably.
    – I lost it with him after the Brighton game, but he had been told to play the kids, as we now know
-The reason I defended him at times was because small minded bitter myopic fools like you were trying to blame him for everything, and gave him little or no credit for positive things, which showed guys like you up to be morons.
    – I sincerely hope we get who you want as a manager in the summer because your whinging is tiresome

Does this help your analysis of my opinion on Pardew Rotunda ??

Janmaat can provide cover at centre back but he’s a right back.

I’d like to see two centre backs signed and bring I bryam from Leeds to provide rb/rm cover, sell Williamson.

We need to buy players to play where we need them. Not try and convert players we have into something they are not. That’s the sort of thinking that got us into the shit in the first place.
This struggle on and make do attitude or rather make do and spend nowt attitude is the reason for our current distress.
Pardew has gone can we please stop talking about him now ffs.

I think the major changes in the window will see Sissoko Krul and Tiote leave and we should get circa 35 million for them.

Williamson and Colo should be sold or released along with Ferguson Mbau Bigi Vuckic Obertan and Ferrerya.

We already have Lascelles Darlow and Marveaux returning from loan although I expect Marveaux to go as well.

Raylor and Jonas have 8 games remaining to win contract extensions and I would give Sammy a new 3 year deal.

with the money from sales and the season sky money, it would take 80 million to get a capable squad together under a new head coach.

    Then I woke up…..lol

I thought your post summarised things pretty well. Several posters found themselves being cast as Pardew lovers, pro pardew mob etc for pointing out / challenging in some way the extreme / unreasonable abuse – me included. The same is happening now at times, but now its the odd individual player – battle lines are drawn and every comment analysed – and you’re a moron if you don’t sing the same tune and agree this player or that is the worst thing since cholera..
