Mike Williamson is the only recognized center-back at Newcastle able to play in the derby game a week on Sunday at the Stadium of Light, and hopefully he will again be partnered by Daryl Janmaat, who had an excellent first game at center-back for Newcastle against Arsenal last Saturday in the 2-1 defeat.
Mike Williamson – hard training sessions
Newcastle have of course famously lost our last four games against Sunderland for the first time ever, so it’s obvious we have to do everything to end that hopeless run.
It seems John Carver is getting the lads super-fit for the game – just as long as we don’t pick up even more injuries in training – we only have 15 fit and available players including two goalkeepers.
This is what Mike has said today:
“We’ve got an opportunity to get some good training,” “The manager’s got us in, and there’s a lot of hard work before the next match.”
“We’ve got quite a rigorous schedule. We’ll make sure we’re ready.” “I think you can rip the form book up when it comes to that game.”
“It’s a great spectacle. I thoroughly enjoy playing in them – the atmosphere, the pressure and the intensity of it is brilliant. I’ve played in quite a few and I don’t need to get myself up for it – I know what it’s all about.”
So we can rip the form book up – well both teams are on bad runs – Newcastle have lost four of their last five games – and Sunderland haven’t won for 7 league games and have only 3 draws in that run.
Mike Williamson was speaking today at the launch of Newcastle International Airport’s “Give As You Earn” initiative, and it allows staff to donate directly to the charity partnership between the Newcastle United Foundation and Sunderland’s Foundation of Light.
It’s great the two rival clubs are able to come together on behalf of charity.
But there will be no charity when the game kicks off a week on Sunday.

Comment #1The blog is a good indication of what’s going on in our fan base!
…sadly as it is we are not doing much to change it.
I read some inspiring words the other day about SD Supporter Direct and what they were trying to accomplish. NUST and the supporters trust from both Spurs and Man Utd were supporting their work.

Comment #4Yeah big test for Colback, hope he plays in the middle of the park though, First goal is always huge, of course, but the toon REALLY need to score first in this one. Their confidence will drain and mackem fans thoughts will turn even more to panic about the R word. Problem is the pattern is sometimes to only get our fingers out and start playing after half an hour, if at all

Comment #10Saylor will be good for about 5 games next season and then will injure himself again. Ashley is a fool who doesn’t deserve to own a football club. He won’t do enough in the summer because he is a cheapskate and a micronuts. No plums no glory Mike. And reduced profit as well as we slide down the league table you idiot.

Comment #11How the man can call himself an owner is beyond me. He is an absentee owner at best and a fool at worst. If he wants lots of dosh then spend some to take us up the table Mike. It’s not difficult to understand. You have to spend wisely but you do have to spend. You can’t get by with 2 over the hill centre backs and a poor set of strikers Mike. It’s not rocket science.

Ashley is a fool who doesn’t deserve to own a football club.
If I may be permitted to divide your sentence into sub clauses
The 1st
Ashley is a fool.
Patently wrong , he is anything but a fool.
The 2nd
who doesn’t deserve to own a football club.
Who does ?
Suggest a viable or acceptable owner please

Comment #18Excellent post @13 Jeff. The owner is a fool. In terms of his leadership ability, and judgment of good football management (Wise, Kinnear, Charnley etc.) he is a fool. I don’t care what kind of businessman he is. He doesn’t deserve to own a football club. I am not an expert on who does but I certainly recognize a man who doesn’t when I see one.

Comment #19Mike Ashley is in the same mould as the Oystons of Blackpool or the Venkys, he’s obviously not an idiot in a business sense, I don’t know what the word is for someone who would rather be loathed than loved.

I’ve got it! Never mind Jimmy Nail doing the team talk – how about playing him at Centre Half? We are short, and well, he’s a local lad! And obviously that is important.

Comment #25Yes I see it as well Dingo mate. A pity Raylor is getting on a bit and has had serious injuries. His set pieces have improved us enormously as well. It’s shocking how poor many of our players are at crossing and corners.

Comment #26If you take Janmaat, Sissoko, and Cisse out of the side we would have collapsed this season. The 5 game winning streak in the first half was more than half of our wins to date! It’s rididulous. Any owner who can’t see how poor his club is and do something about it is not a fit and proper owner. Two wins in our last 10. Nine wins total. A goal difference of -15. Shockingly poor. Nothing done about it in January either.

Comment #27I’m pleased I asked that question
I now see that the people known as the neggers are suffering from a basic misconception.
It was JfA referring to the horrible people who own Blackpool that pinned it for me.
To compare Ashley to a convicted rapist and wheeler dealer of the worst sort is laughable and probably actionable.
You silly man

Comment #31Based on our goal difference we should probably be sitting 15th right now. That’s pathetic as well. Hopefully many of our sad sack players will be gone in summer. But who will come in? A few under 25’s with no Prem experience? And what decent manager would come to be our head coach then? It’s laughable in a pathetic sort of way.

Comment #39armchair fan – earlier. I agree with your sentiments. In the real world most of us don’t get involved in email battles. We pick up the phone or meet the party face to face. I personally believe in a free press and a free blog.
I have the belief that you should play to the strong suits and ignore the negative. Forever in our shadow (FIOS) is an acronym that Arsenal fans frequently use to taunt Spurs fans. We’re all entitled to our own opinions and you should be able to determine whether its spiteful ness or constructive criticism.
This blog can be a nasty place for grievances and there will always be some people prepared to dislike you because they’re driven by emotion and will attack you for their own reasons of insecurity.
I have discussed in the past – blog content with Dr Harrison and we did agree that you should not ignore criticism as long as it’s educated and adds something to the discussion. It might be wasted on some but you can always take the view that we’re all in the playground together.
Finally, it’s better to amuse than to bore the living daylights out of fellow bloggers with clockwork predictability.
