Hopes Beginning To Fade On Andre Ayew

Newcastle United seem to be in danger of losing out on top forward target Andre Ayew, who will become a free agent in the summer, when his five year contract with Marseilles runs out.

andre ayew

Andre Ayew – top Newcastle target

The news a week or so ago was that Newcastle had already met with the player’s agent and we have put our offer to the player, and Newcastle were hoping to close a deal.

But other bigger clubs are also starting to talk to Ayew’s agent,  and there was news yesterday in Italy that Inter-Milan are currently in talks with the winger, and that Roma and Napoli are also still interested in signing the player.

So it’s one thing that Newcastle have talked to the player’s agent, but it’s another to get him to sign along the bottom line for the Tyneside club, who will not be in Europe any time soon.

Those Italian clubs interested in Andre are both bigger and more ambitious clubs than Newcastle are these days, and they compete regularly in Europe, so it’s going to be difficult for Newcastle to sign the 25 year-old.

We still have a chance, but it’s very rare that Newcastle can beat out the bigger clubs these days – although we did that last summer to get Ayoze Perez to Newcastle.

So you never know.

We live in hope – as usual.

Think Ayew will come to england but can see Liverpool or Spurs picking him up. He’s a good player though and a leader. Would have instantly improved our side.

Jeffrey in his willingness to blindly defend Mike Ashleys mind numbing policies says we don’t need a manager who shouts for players, yes it’s much better to have a manager who gladly accepts that profits are more important than on field success.

What’s Ayew’s agent doing? All he’s got to do is look at the form table

    http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/newcastle-united-form-table-eight-8910804

Four points out of a possible 18 equates to 0.666 points per game or 25 over 38 games!

Ashley, Charnley really must take note – can they really afgord to stick with Carver?

its a shame as he’s the type of quality we need !

no doubt we will go for some mid table players again though to fill the squad.

if only they would get there acts together and get us 2 decent cb’s and a big solid no9 without letting the 6-7 decent players we have go then i think most fans would see that as progress.

sell some of the rubbish or let them go but spend that £30mil it may take to get those 3 top quality players.

It’s the end of the emergency loan window today, who’s Ashley shipping out?

We can’t miss a opportunity to weaken the squad.

    Lesh,
They stuck with Pardew last season who, from Jan onwards attained 16 points from a possible 57 points. They still continued with him.

Carver so far has 9 from a possible 33. We have 6 games which are winnable (Sunderland, and then all bar Liverpool and Spuds), so it would be no surprise to see Carver achieve at least parity with Pardew.

If it didn’t affect there thinking last season, then why would it this season?

    Yes Lil

Continue they will with Carver I’m sure.

Pardew though had previously shown some form and so staying with him during a bad patch (harrumph) could have had some merit.

Carver has no positive previous to fall back on but, he’ll toe the Ashley line and cheap to employ!

What a way to run a football club.

I’d guess you feel relaxed about being in Malawi rather than being a Tyneside-based fan.

    Lesh,
Pardew had also previously shown horrendous form though, and I’d argue didn’t have as thread bare a squad as Carver is currently selecting from.

I’m not saying keeping Carver is the right thing to do, but I don’t see it as any worse than keeping Pardew.

Don’t understand the last comment about being relaxed in Malawi, rather than Tyneside based though.

guys IMO I don’t think Carver will stay on as head coach, some very useful stats from fellow bloggers on here to summarise that he will stay on.

in my view I think Carver will be demoted as youth or under 21 coach since we are short in these areas and won’t cost MA, if Carver walks out he won’t get the rest of his contract paid to him and I can’t see Carver doing this because I don’t think any other team would want him ( well maybe Palace 😉 )

It’s a shame about Ayew because I think he’s a top player, a powerful winger who can play in many positions and a leader which we crave.

And with MA and LC looking for head coaches who can develop youths into first team and improve the first team ability’s and performance on the pitch Carver can’t enrol for this category as he can’t do any of these.

Plus I think this time LC would consider what fans have to say because if Carver gets appointed full time well I can just imagine the riot from the fans towards the directors and it won’t be a pretty site either.

    Nezza,
If Carver doesn’t get the job he will go back to assistant. That is the contract and pay grade he will be on. They wouldn’t employ someone else to be assistant while paying an assistants wage for a youth coach.

That for me is probably the major stumbling block to a new coach. I’d like Carver staying in fairness, particularly if a foreign coach and staff come in. Carver is still a club man and would be useful initially to have around the place. I’d prefer him to stay than Stone.

Just cause he is assistant in name doesn’t mean he will automatically be the right hand man in anything other than title though. There is still hope that the club invest in a good coaching structure, but it is little more than hope as there isn’t any evidence from past appointments to look to.

    Carver, Stone, Woodman – demoted

Garde in with 5 of his own coaches – Attacking, Defending, Set pieces, Fitness and Goal keeper coach.

    Players out —

Raylor, Saylor, Collo, Willo Jonas, Cisse, Obertan, Tiote, Almwick, Elliot, Marv.

    Players position needed —

    4 x CB – 1 x RB – 1 x LB – 1 x GK – 1 x LW – 2 x RW – 1 x ST

Never thought of that situation mate, I thought once a new head coach comes in he appoints his own Ass Man, true though with Carver staying at the club because he could provide information to the new HC about the players we have and the culture at our club since only Carver knows about this club than any other director

    Nezza,
Normally a new assistant would be brought in, but it isn’t always the case. Millen at Palace has is onto his third manager. Carver, Stone and Woodman all have contracts till 2020, and I can’t see them giving them up, or the club paying them off.

I also wouldn’t want Stone anywhere near the youth set up. The youth team are where they learn the skills that will develop through their career. What can Stone offer there?

I would love to see a clean sweep of coaching staff, I just can’t see it happening. Somehow, the current staff will have to be incorporated into any new set up which I fear will put off several candidates.

With Ayew already on a pre contract and being linked early doors with a few names , it looks like the club isn’t going to muck about getting players over the line this summer (probably learnt from the MYM cock up) This means lots of new faces for the preseason .

    Nezza,
£100million profit?? WE will likely announce around £40million for the year 13/14. We had £9.9million for the year 12/13 and a nominal amount (under a million if memory serves correct) in 11/12. Currently I’d guess at the figures being near £25million for the year 14/15 but that is pure speculation with a few months left of the financial year and won’t be announced till this time next year anyway.

So by my calculations we should have recorded around £50million profit by July 1st last year. With a further profit likely by July 1st this year.

Carver, Stone and Woodman won’t be on big wages at all, but then unless there is grounds for terminating without pay, I can’t see the club letting them go.

Haha I am all for a bit of optimism mate, I would be more than shocked if we signed a manager plus 5 coaches though

I honestly think McClaren is coming in and no more coaches. Reckon we will sign 1 CB with someone leaving (likely Saylor), 1 striker replacing someone leaving (likely Cisse), a full back who can cover either side (replacing Santon) and that will be us done imo

    Lil

When I used the words relaxed in Malawi, perhaps I should have said that at least you’re far enough away to make suffering at SJP near impossible.

I’m not suggesting you’ve got the life of Reilly out there, sitting on your verandah enjoying a G & T after a game of croquet on your extensive lawn.

Chance would be a fine thing eh.

As far as Carver’s concerned, he’s got no positive form behind him and so presents a greater threat to avoiding relegation. Unless, they have a contingency plan in place – ‘arry Rednapp waved in an advisory capacity?

Oh what fun, the joys of Newcastle United.

    Jail,
Not necessarily about the team, I’d expect any new coach/coaches to be able to do that, but Carver knows the club, the area, and the history. He would be very useful to have around, even if only for a transitionary period. Still, I think it is a moot point, I can’t see the club sacking him or Stone so any incoming coach will have to incorporate them into their team in some fashion.

I think due to his high profile jobs and subsequent pay offs, Mclaren will be a very wealthy man, I would say he will be looking for a club to restore his reputation and gain silverware rather than consolidate his place among Pulis, Fat Sam, Pardew and Hughes which is all he’ll get with us.

    Lesh.
Suffering at SJP may be near impossible, but I suffer every week at the bar with taunts from the various Malawians that love to point out our poor play to me.

I don’t feel Carver poses more of a threat to relegation personally. It isn’t any better than Pardew, but the play isn’t exactly worse, and we haven’t collapsed other than City, which was a regular feature under Pardew (24% of games in 2014 ended in us losing by 3 or more goals).

I think the likelihood is, if Carver stays, the squad will be equipped with enough to survive regardless of who is selecting the team, as it has been the last two years. 1 year, they undercooked it and strengthened in Jan to keep us up.

Never a chance old candle face would work under Ashley. Wheeler dealer the Dog Banker, who likes to leave clubs in financial turmoil? He wouldn’t cope with a club making a profit. That is why Rosie has an account.
