Newcastle United are being linked today with 21 year-old Spanish striker Juanmi Jimenez who currently plays for Malaga, and has played for the very successful Spanish U19 team which won two European Championships in 2011 and 2012.
Juanmi Jimenez – 21 year-old Malaga striker
Jimenez has come through Malaga’s Youth Academy and he made his first-team debut in January 2010 in a Copa del Rey away match against Getafe CF, and he scored in a 5-1 defeat for Malaga, and he was only 16 years old.
In September of the same year 17-year-old Juanmi started at Real Zaragoza, and scored two goals to become the youngest player to score two goals in one game.
And Juanmi has now played 89 times for Malaga with 20 goals and 6 assists and that’s a good record for one so young.
The news is being reported today in an exclusively on TuttoMercatoWeb.
Juanmi has played for the Spanish U17, U18 and U19 sides and he was in the Spain side won two consecutive UEFA European Under-19 Championships, scoring two goals in the 2011 tournament in Romania.
This month he was called up to the senior Spanish national team for the first time by coach Vicente del Bosque, after Diego Costa withdrew with a hamstring injury, and he was on the bench in Spain’s 1-0 home win over Ukraine on Friday.
Spain’s next game is against Holland on Tuesday night, and he may even gain his first full Spanish cap then.
Newcastle have concentrated on scouting Spanish players this year, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if Newcastle were after Jimenez, who looks a very good young player and will only improve at Newcastle in the Premier league.
The player is not tall at only 5’6″, but he fits the Newcastle mold perfectly, and is a young player who has good technical skills and can improve on Tyneside, and he could be similar to Newcastle’s signing of Ayoze Perez last summer.
The 21 year-old is right footed and has a contract with Malaga through June of 2018, and he would probably cost around £3M.
Ayoze has been a big success and has come on in leaps and bounds this season and has scored 5 goals in the Premier League.
Juanmi Jimenez looks like he could be a good buy for Newcastle United.
