Newcastle After Striker Who Just Made His Holland Debut

We watched the Holland vs Spain game last night and it was a good game to watch, with Daryl Janmaat playing the whole game for the Dutch and a reported transfer target of Newcastle’s – Malaga’s 21 year-old striker Juanmi (full name Juan Miguel Jimenez Lopez) – made his debut for Spain and looked quite good.

bas dost wolfsburg

Bas Dost – 25 year-old Wolfsburg striker

Now there is a report today in Sports Bild in Germany that Wolfsburg striker Bas Dost is also a target of Newcastle’s this summer,  and he came on as a sub in the second half for Holland last night for his second cap.

Bas Dost made his debut for Holland at the Amsterdam ArenA only last Saturday, replacing defensive midfielder Nigel de Jong after 63 minutes, as Holland drew 1-1 with Turkey in Amsterdam with a stoppage time equalizer from Wesley Sneijder.

The 25 year-old has been at Wolfsburg for three seasons now and he has scored 16 goals in 23 games this season and is a star player in the Bundesliga.

And yes, Newcastle were interested in the player before he moved from Heerenveen to Wolfsburg almost three years ago.

While at Heerenveen for two seasons from 2010, Dost scored 52 goals in just 73 total appearances, and he also had 10 assists, so he’s had a good record for a while now.

Bas is a big guy at 6’5″ tall, but cannot be accused of being very quick, but he has an eye for goal and in Germany he has scored 33 goals in 71 total appearances for his German club.

Southampton are the other club said to be interested in the giant striker, and of course the Saints are an ambitious club these days willing to pay high fees for good player,  and they beat us to center-back Toby Alderweireld last summer – and Toby is currently on loan this season at the Saints.

Some bigger clubs could also become interested in the player,  who is said to be worth around £15M these days after having such a great goal-scoring season in Germany.

We’ll have to wait and see in the summer about how big a draw Newcastle are these days, and we hope we can make some big signings this summer.

Newcastle need to do that in what seems to be a water-shed summer for the Tyneside club.

£9M is about the top transfer fee Mike Ashley has paid out for any player at Newcastle – for Papiss Cisse – but that will likely be broken this summer.

What do you think?

How much was Pardew on and what were his bonus terms?

Which Championship managers do you mean – most of them?

I don’t think any manager or HC J’s going g to come in mate, it’s futile to even constantly have these discussions. 80 odd applicants in January and not 1 formally interviewed for the role.

Carver sits in on transfer talk targets tells you all you need to know as to who the appointment will be. I personally wouldn’t mind McClaren however it won’t happen!!

    magscar,
Nobody will ever no the true amount Pardew was on, but imo he was given that eight year deal to stop him walking after that summer he was hung out to dry. I don’t think the top ten bonus applied to him.

Must admit 40K seems very low for PL. Where are figures from?

Wonder whether other managers under Ashley got more? If so why was he on less? Desperate for job or something to do with that (urban myth?) gambling debt story?

If you are correct no way Mclaren is going to drop half his salary to take on us.

    Jfa

Thought that bonuses affected all employees. hence the minimum targets set each year? Ashley is into incentivising.

Now if the Club were to announce the appointment of a credible Head Coach and some quality pre-contract signings, there’s be no need for all this speculation.

A real sign of commitment to taking the Club forward and upward, and season ticket renewals would take off.

Does Ashley take fans for complete idiots? Yup!

on the 8 year deal I was of the view it was to protect his asset if FA came calling for him – big compo!

Recently thinking this as why would the rest of the mob get same deal? Were FA likely to want those as well!?

Occurs to me that Ashley in penny pinching over transfers and thereby making manager and coaches jobs increasingly more difficult had to keep them sweet. 8 year deals to reassure them that they wouldn’t easily lose their jobs because of his policies? That makes more sense on reflection as we tend to forget sometimes that like us they also want some job security for themslves and families.

No idea why anybody would think we will get a great coach, I don’t thinks it’s Ashleys style like. Mebbe a cast off from a few years back somebody who doesn’t mind taking orders off the accounts department as long as he has a job he he. Monkey heed would be about right but I think he’s on some middle eastern channel at the mo.

your post got me thinking that would the relatively low salary not mean that if Carver doesn’t get job then would a foreign coach not more likely fit the bill? Just as players in PL get more than in France say, so must managers? Garde or Galtier then?

Um, Ed…I can think of at least two higher-fee transfers than Cisse off the top of my head: Cabella and Coloccini.

Not saying that means anything as it relates to us (not?) spending money in the summer, mind.

Looks difficult to sign great goal scorer at the moment.I couldn’t pick one that suits us and be true goal scorer for us.Lacazatte is the one best suit us but he’ll go to bigger clubs now.Bas Dost has excellent season at Wolfsburg but I’d prefer youngsters like Mitrovic,Antony Martial or yannick carrasso. But feel we’ll end up with average strikers like Ings on the attacking front.

    On possible head coaches:
I heard my favorite coach Tuchel has been offered a 4yr deal by Hamburg, including sizeable transfer kit. That’s a bad news to hear.
I don’t want McLaren though. He is better than JC but don’t think he is the man to take this FC forward.Like I said ,hiring another British or British based coach is a sign of going backward. We have seen that many times now.Still hope the board will surprise us with good coach for the next season.

Oh by the way, still flattered by ED’s morning surprise re Mike.
    Nice one ED!

And about this supposed 60M pound war chest. Who in their right mind after 8 years with Ashley would believe he now intends to spend 60M pounds on the club. Dream on. This man has shown his true stripes over and over again. We still have The Willo and Colo Show as our CB defense remember? One can’t run or pass the ball and the other hasn’t won a header for about 3 seasons now (just exaggerating for effect there). When you have a clown at the top expect clowns down below. Right Lee?

Fella that was spot on, I would rather not state who it was .
They are very well informed and I may have cause to go back again so watch this space.
Sparky was very supportive and I met him couple of weeks ago when he collected the shirt. Really nice fella and a pint will be had hopefully soon.
We lost David on 27th Feb. He had been given 6-8 months but the man was a fighter and did 14 months. We almost managed to everything he wanted.
We have managed to raise £14k for St Oswalds Hospice and I intend to carry on supporting them.

I have a 1969 fairs cup signed shirt with the original match programme and team photo all framed up so will be auctioning that thus weekend.
Anyway I really appreciate you remembered fella. You take care.

I couldn’t remember if you said he’d already passed the time you come on and agreed to sell the shirt to sparky.

Sorry to hear he has mate. Always hard losing a good friend but at least you managed to do most of the things he wanted.

Keep up the good work with the auctions bud.

Just a note to sparky for being so generous. It’s a rare commodity nowadays and should never be underestimated and always lauded. Well done that man.

How very dare you supply evidence of the shenanigans at SJP. You’ll get a name for yourself. I’ve seen that before.

If it wasn’t true why would he say it, regardless of his character I’d still rather believe him than the stink that emanates from the billy’s at the club.

    My take on it anyway.
