Arsenal Enter Race To Challenge Newcastle For Top Target

It looks like Arsenal, Marseilles, Newcastle and Southampton are the four  clubs who want to sign Caen midfielder N’Golo Kante this summer, and Newcastle have been tracking the player for the last couple of years.

N'Golo Kante

N’Golo Kante – Caen defensive midfielder

The Paris-born 24 year-old midfielder has been in very good form this season for Caen, with 31  total appearances with 3 goals and  4 assists, and he’s been attracting some top clubs.

The player is often compared to the legendary French defensive midfielder Claude Makelele, but Kante scores more goals than Claude, and so far in his career he has six goals in 75 total appearance.

In Claude’s distinguished career at clubs like Marseilles, Real Madrid, Chelsea and PSG, he scored only 25 goals in 802 first team appearances, and at Chelsea he scored only 2 goals in 215 appearances, and one of those was a penalty.

Kante is valued at around £5M, but if Arsenal are really after the player, Newcastle would be hard pressed to beat out the top London club for his  signature.

Newcastle are after a player to replace Cheick Tiote,  and the Saints are after a player to potentially replace Kenyan International Victor Wanyama, who could be sold in the summer.

The 5’7″ central midfielder is only in his second season at Caen, and they were promoted to the French first division last season, and this season they have 35 points from 30 game,  and are 3 points above the drop zone at the moment in 14th place.

We are hoping that Arsenal are being linked with the player only because they are usually interested in top young French players.

But with 23 year-old Francis Coquelin doing so well this season at the Emirates, we’d be a little surprised if the reports are true the Gunners are interested in Kante, although Arsenal may  simply be strengthening their squad in various positions.

Reports in L’Equipe are that Newcastle are keen to sign the player, and that he’s the likely replacement for Cheick Tiote.

If Arsenal are not interested in this player, then the Magpies must have a decent chance of signing him this summer.

Well Arsenal are not likely to be interested in Tiote. The Arsenal scouts would have been hard pressed to watch him this season.

Do other clubs actually have scouts or do they just follow Carr around?
Might as well publish a list of our targets.

Everytime we are linked with a player the same clubs always seem to want that player aswell. So frustrating. Do we just look for players that they know we can’t get so that they have the excuse of saying we tried to sign top players? Wouldnt suprise me.

My team for the game vs scum.

Have a look at the League table tonight and digest which clubs are above us and which clubs are below us and how far off 5th place we are.
Mediocre is not a word I like but that’s what Ashley, Pardew and Carver have reduced the club to.

Based on the data I had to hand, Newcastle had a couple of years back the 8th highest turnover of the premier league clubs. With good management, assuming there aren’t huge outstanding debts, that should equate to the 8th highest wages and the 8th in the table. He’s not got them a million miles from that currently.
    One I prepared earlier.
It seems that anyone who takes a different view to you is immediately classed as a multiple. I will take it that you are a fan although it seems from reading the blog that this is arguable. As a fan I have to be realistic and expect to never see Newcastle win the league again as long as I live, unless there’s a huge change in our fortunes or the way the Premier League is run. It would take a genius to incrementally
increase the value of the team year on year and to slowly but surely
improve our league standing to the top four and Champions League.
I think Newcastle fans need to either accept that reality, or speak out to change it. Certainly your out of order and it’s plain not right to attack randomly anyone who comes onto the blog that has an opposing view to you. Level headed types like Jesper are getting sucked into your obsessive games. I remember reading that you’ve got form and I really don’t want to make an issue of it because despite your sly practices your a fellow Tooner.

You clearly have a lot of time on your hands but please don’t spend it throwing your weight around because it seems to me your already crowned as the blog bully. Think about it and you’ll know it makes sense.
Just as I said Youve emptyied the blog.

You know it makes sense! I don’t want to read your post match Monday morning quarterback usual clap trap comments.
If you don’t like it change it and give the blog readers a brake.

You think it would take a genius to improve year on year and get in CL.

When Ashley bought the club we where 8th richest in the world and now are 18th due to his piss poor strategy.

so what does that make Ashley?

I take your point but we are where we are. Just think a number of the founding clubs with tradition and a history who have plummeted the depths. We need to do what we can to stay competitive in the PL and ask those fans with time on their hands to man the barricades. NUST are looking to recruit seniors to be more active.

we do have one thing going for us. we have a terrible side so younger players may decide to come here so they can get some playing time rather than sit on the bench forever
all they need to do is look at Perez

What a great result today for swans and for gomis, hope newcastle can do it tomorrow to complete a perfect weekend, and hopefully I will be able to watch the Chelsea’s physio this evening when she comes on the pitch when a player gets injured, i wonder if they get a lot of groin injuries.

finkler – aka John Irving aka our very own Mister Multiple.
Your squealing like a piglet says it all – what a faker and trickster you are.
Comedy Gold about accusing me of being sly – I post as myself as I do not have the need to change my blog name unlike you who changes names more often than someone with incontinence changes their knickers.
Get off our blog -you mischief maker, but before you do a quick grammar
lesson. In your last rant please note brake should be break and there is no such word as emptyied – it’s emptied – you thicko.
    What a knacker.
Blog bully – more garbage because someone stands up to you.
I see you are now praising/befriending jesper in an attempt to cause
divisions – classic Ian Toon tactics. It would appear jesper also has
the measure of you – a trickster and fraudster.
It’s folk like you with your gang of Jeff and the Fool (your only support
I would hazard) who empty (note correct spelling) the blog.
Get off our blog you sly worthless trickster – the game is up and you
know it – you and your types are spoiling the blog for decent Toon posters.
The game is up. Get off the blog you worthless scumbag trickster.
Please no more posts over the weekend, especially comments about the game tomorrow – as you know nowt about football.

Release the bloodhounds ……..he’s on the run.
    High Five to decent posters.

Please don’t try and involve others. This saga has gone on long enough and is boring. Try and stop yourself from being such a bully. You make a habit of attacking anyone new on the blog with an alternative viewpoint. Those regular readers and not posters ( which I understand from the last count are around 125) will appreciate and agree. Ed- wants to clean up the posts and I think I can help.

No one worth his fee will be coming to Newcastle unless there is a clear statement of intent from Ashley of change in policy. I think he realises Carver would get us relegated next season but to get a decent coach he will have to give guarantees of ambition because this job, although very prestigious can be a poisoned chalice.
