John Carver cannot exactly be over the moon that the anonymous Sack Pardew crew – that’s the group who saved Crystal Palace this season – are now onto their next project, and it’s to get Newcastle fans to boycott the remaining home games in an effort to oust Mike Ashley – and that presumably means to get him to put the club up for sale for a third time.
John Carver – we need fans behind the team
It’s yet another problem that interim coach John Carver has to deal with, and John has at least been diplomatic when talking about it:
“People work hard for their money and earn their wages and I can’t dictate whether they come or not, but we need them behind the team.” “The people who do turn up get behind the team.”
“We’ve seen how it makes such a difference.” “People will do what they want to do and people love this club, and as long as we give our all they will back us.”
“People are entitled to do what they want to do, I can’t do anything about that.” “I’ll be focused on the team and things like that won’t affect me.”
“If we get a decent finish to the season it can carry on into the new season and there might be a few new players to take us forward because we’re going to invest in the summer.”
When there have been boycotts in the past they have not particularly been widely supported, and with Newcastle still not safe from relegation, we’d be surprised if many stay away – although that could happen given the anger and frustration that surrounds owner Mike Ashley, and the frugal methods he uses at Newcastle.
There may even be some good news regarding the squad shortly, with Colo back from suspension after the Liverpool game, and 19 year-old Rolando Aarons said to be close to being fully fit again, although he will miss the Liverpool game, and Siem de Jong is also back in full training.
We need a win as soon as possible.

Not been on a lot as I have little to say, not really watched many games, even highlights, apart from the derby, the season has just fizzled out in typical style, so felt I had little new to contribute.
Ibiza
I’m not far from there, within county durham so very easy to commute. I agree, I want what is best for the club, not for Ashley, Carver, Sissoko or any player….what is best for the club, fans and the local area.
My only worry is that when the close season comes fans anger will settle as nothing will be happening, a couple of decent signings (we really need 5/6 starting 11 players) will see people satisfied to the point where they won’t be protesting.
Toon brother
We don’t always agree on players/managers but totally with you on Carver and the midfield 3 available for the derby.
I just can’t understand how somebody who has passed through the FIFA coaching badge process and has had countless experience working in professional football can’t see what a terrible team he put out on Sunday. It beggers belief.

I also agree with the buying and selling policy that most clubs operate under. If you want good players you have to accept that when they excel bigger teams will come knocking on the door, very few teams are at a level where they are not susceptible to players wanting to leave, could count them teams on 1 hand.
What I, and I’m sure you, disagree with is our method of implementing this policy. We sell players when we don’t need too, (cabaye in january for example, he was hardly going to refuse to play when he had a world cup place at stake that summer). Then even if we had to sell mid season (Carroll, money was just way too good for him) then at least replace, even if it costs you a little more than you planned.

Hello good sir.
I would agree with the boycott, people claim Ashley won’t care as he gets enough TV money to cover it. Well take away the 30mil from tickets sales and matchday revenue and then our profit drops from 19mil to an 11mil loss, requiring a loan from ashley or the bank.
Also consider that empty stadiums won’t get as much TV coverage and so TV revenue will drop too, therefore sports direct advertising exposure will be dropping.
People seem to write everything off as not being big enough to effect him, well if we all contribute in as many ways as we can we can make his regime crumble. Nobody is more powerful than the masses, not even government/dictatorships. If enough people seek change, it will come.

Comment #44As others say one protest isn’t going to be enough, we need continuing protests but also other strategies.
Maybe we should make this into a case for fans owning a percentage of the club like Germany. LFG mentioned this a few days ago and I beleive it would be a good idea to incorporate this into our protests and push the FA on this.
There’s plenty other clubs that have had shady owners who’ve abused the fans and Heritidge.
If this is only a AO thing a lot of other clubs fans won’t be to fussed, if this was made to be the future safety of all English football clubs we’d gain a lot more support.
I don’t know what others think of this, it would take a long time to be pushed through even if it could.
I think it’s definatley worth consideration.

Comment #45I stand by what I said Ibiza mate @39. The plan is all wrong. The plan won’t work to produce a decent club with real ambition. We see it in action again this season. It will never work under Ashley. Certainly he can make money out of the club as long as people go along with it and don’t care about what they see on the pitch. But if that’s the case they may as well become supporters of another sport. Football is about ambition and winning things. We have neither now. It’s not acceptable. Ashley out.

Comment #46TS…I get what you’re saying. It’s going to be a testing summer. Ashley simply has to spend money, there can’t be an option not to, surely? 🙂 That shouldn’t be, but likely will be, confused as ambition.
For me, I can’t buy in to Ashley and his sidekicks. I’m of the opinion it’s our duty to do something. Giving up and accepting the status quo because we feel we can’t bring change? What’s that all about. I say it’s time the fans got some pride back in themselves. That is the thing I am most angry about from Ashleys time owning the club, for whatever reasons, he has destroyed the Geordies spirit and pride for their football team. The same fans world renowned as some of the best of fans. Nah, it isn’t right. I don’t mind if there’s only 10 people still saying it come the summer, i’ll be one of them until something actually changes. If that’s with Ashley at the helm, opinions wont be swayed over a summer.
Will you be at the protest?

Comment #47Don’t you think that 8 years of underachievement including a relegation, some horrendous losing runs and some dodgy finishes to a season means that Ashley already knows full well that the majority of Toon supporters will follow the team blindly regardless of on field performance ?
After 8 years, nobody is organised enough to make any difference.
Whatever dear Jeffrey thinks of Gers supporters they are much better at protesting and getting organised than Geordies are – and having an impact.
This lovely quote from Carver “there might be a few new players to take us forward because we’re going to invest in the summer.” shows how he is totally on message for the boss – more jam tomorrow…

Comment #48Spot on Transfer Sage @43. We’re not even a mediocre club under Ashley. We have to stand up and demand change and it will come. Every method of protest is worth trying but I think an empty ground with a huge TV audience watching would be devastating to Ashley. Nothing could be more effective. If enough people aren’t willing to do something then be prepared for more of the same. Ashley will love it and just keep collecting money and taking the free advertising.

Comment #49It’s a very limited window of opportunity for the rabble rousers.
Spurs on Sunday 19 April followed by Swansea at home the Saturday after , then Leicester away 02 May followed by WBA at home , but that is 9 May – 2 days after the election and certain folk will be otherwise engaged – know what I mean – nudge nudge wink wink.

Comment #50Putting second raters and third raters in charge of the club is the Ashley method. Pardew was second rate, Carver is third rate. Does anyone think that any other club in the Prem would hire Carver as manager? The squad depth issue has been with us for 8 years as well. Complete disaster there. Keeping Williamson in the lineup because we have nobody else? Madness. Keeping made of glass Saylor instead of selling him for whatever we could get? Madness. Paying Obertan to pretend to be a football player? Madness. The joke has been on us for 8 years now. Personally, I’m not amused. Ashley out.

Comment #51G2…I suppose a better and simpler way or saying what I mean is that I seem to remember the Arsenal model being mentioned when our model was served up. I wouldn’t object to that, not one bit.
Although, they seem to be similar to us in not giving much of a toss about CB’s.
I get your overall point though, there needs to be sporting ambition. We only have financial ambition under the disguise of a football team.

Comment #53Carver has become another apologist for the regime. Another one that says “listen lads things are going to change in the future. Ashley is going to spend in the summer.” Certainly he will spend to save his investment by keeping us in the Prem (barely most seasons). Is that what we want? Another season of crap which always disintegrates in the second half? Even Pardew couldn’t take it anymore. He actually had the balls to get up and leave. We’re supporters. We can’t leave but we can force change. Ashley out.

Comment #54Sleeping Giant…The thing is, that can change. What we chose to do as fans isn’t set in stone.
I think many have tried to give him the benefit of doubt. There have been reasonableish excuses in the past, but they’ve worn thin. I think it’s brewing and I am confident in Geordies in all corners of the globe to sort their stuff out, put aside petty differences and do something.

Comment #55The Arsenal model under Ashley Ibiza mate? Ahahahahahahaha! Arsenal have a great club, with a fine manager. They spent 45M on a single player. They have tremendous ambition every season. We have a mentally handicapped clown who thinks 10th place is some kind of triumph for the club.

Comment #60I’ve laughed so hard that I’ve hurt myself Ibiza mate. The Arsenal model!!!! It’s hilarious. I notice Ashley doesn’t mention that model anymore does he? Let’s see now. Arsenal is in second place in the league and are in the semi final of the FA cup. Now, hmmmm. We’re in 13th place and were out of the cup long ago. Yes, I think I can see the similarities now. Not.

Comment #67Geordies will put up with any old shit. Including Mike Ashley. The area has been neglected economically for so long that the people are used to naff all and being treated like shit. A losers environment has resulted. The fans are happy to see 11 players with two legs. There will be no mass walk out and Ashley will continue on his merry way. Can you imagine Arsenal or the other big clubs putting up with this crap for 7 years? Seven months perhaps. We have put up with it for an eternity and will continue to do so. Maybe Ashley should admit he votes Tory? Revolution!!!!!!!

Comment #68How are people enjoying the 8 year Buffoon Plan? Excellent football isn’t it? And no doubt we’re in for a real treat next season unless we force The Parasite out. He might even bring in a CB and a striker if he can find players cheap enough to suit The Buffoon Plan.

This one is just the first step imo. I’m sure down the line we all have our part to play.
If you don’t mind my saying, the blog could use your input at the minute. In fact, it could really use some of the old faces who became disillusioned with the club and apathy amongst fans. Something is happening that people can be part of. The more the merrier. It’s time we take the club back, even if it does take a long time.
