Newcastle Interested In Top In-Demand Coach In France

French Daily L’Equipe is reporting today that Newcastle United are interested in Jocelyn Gourvennec,  as the possible new head coach on Tyneside in the summer, and Jocelyn is currently the manager at Guingamp – where Sylvain Marveaux is currently on loan for the season.

Jocelyn Gourvenne

Jocelyn Gourvennec – head coach at Guingamp

Guingamp are a very small club, but that hasn’t stopped them from beating PSG and Marseilles this season, and Gourvennec is now a top coach in France who is demand, and he’s compared to Jurgen Klopp of Borussia Dortmund in the way he coaches the side.

Guingamp qualified for the Europa League this season after winning the Coupe de France last year,  and French pundits were concerned their country’s European coefficients would drop, because of Guingamp’s entry.

But the opposite happened and Guingamp were the last French club remaining in that tournament and the only one to get through the group rounds.

Lyon were eliminated by Astra Giurgiu of Romania in August, while Lille and St Etienne both failed to win a single game during the group stage.

Guingamp were eliminated in the round of the last 16 by Dynamo Kiev by a cumulative score of 4-3, after winning their home leg 2-1.

Guingamp are currently in 11th place in the French league and Gourvennec, who is still only 43, has grown his reputation over the last five years since he took over at the small French club back in the summer of 2010.

Gourvennec began his coaching career in the summer of 2008 after being hired by La Roche VF, a French football club based in La Roche-sur-Yon, Vendee, France and they play in the DH Atlantique league and were sixth in 2009.

Jocelyn was only 38 when he took over at Guingamp (who are based in Cotes-d’Armor in Brittany – northwestern France) in the summer of 2010, and the club at that time was in third division in France and they were promoted in his very first year in charge.

In the next two seasons he had the team in 7th place in Ligue 2 and then they were again in his third season in charge to the top league in France.

So he took only three seasons to get them two promotions, and now they are in mid-table in the French League after winning the French Cup last season, and playing in Europe this season.

So they have played as many times in Europe as Newcastle have since Mike Ashley has owned the club – once.

As  a player he played for many different clubs in the French Leagues, and Jocelyn was a midfielder playing from 1987 through 2006.

At such a young age and with some success, Jocelyn Gourvennec will be in high demand in the summer, so we hope the news in France is true, and that Newcastle can appoint this coach in the summer.

Newcastle United need to make an appointment like this once, so we don’t keep finishing in the bottom half of the Premier League and only once in eight seasons under Mike Ashley have we finished in the top eight in England.

Newcastle fans at the moment are just sick as a chip – what with everything that’s happened this year.

And with the very poor results on Tyneside, John Carver’s star has fallen rather rapidly this year, and he’s only managed two wins in 13 games in charge, and we are likely to finish around 15th in the league this season, after being in 9th place at the end of last year.

Maybe Newcastle will realize it would be good to go with a whole new coaching team in the summer?

I’d much prefer it if Ashley just provide whatever it takes to get a top HC. As is, we’re fed speculation that invariably comes to nothing because Ashley will not spend at a realistic level.

Was this guy considered when Baldric was supposedly assessing possible candidates in January? If others had been approached, what happened to them?

I suspect this is no more than speculation but if not, can we take it that Baldric’s on the case to have him join us early in the summer? Can we take it that pigs’ll be seen flying over SJP?

Nah, we’re stuck with Carver and Ashley’s fool enough to let him loose with new signings.

    What a ducking shambles!

    Jeffrey,
Instead of hurling insults at the disloyal and loud mouthed gob shites why don’t you make use of your doctorate in English language and give us a short thesis on why or how you think we are being well run as a competing football club.

Are you the original Mutton Jeff because you seem to be turning your ears off to everything that’s happening at this club.
Or maybe you are just a sad little person who thinks that by constantly going against the natural grain you are being funny.
Either way you are as big a blot on this blog as Cashley is to the Toon. Pack it in man – you’re becoming tedious.

    From NUFC.com
”Once the sniggering subsides though, the over-riding feeling isn’t one of annoyance over losing Pardew, but rather that the absence of leadership or a credible squad left us incapable of beating a tin pot club yet again”.

The AshleyOut pea brains should give all the season tickets for the Spurs game to mackem fans , they really know how to walk out of a stadium.

lesh – just had a look at the John Gibson article – says it all really. The momentum against Mr Tubbs is growing day by day -but there are still some who cannot sense the wind of change. They need to climb aboard or they’ll miss the train.

I’m sure he is a great guy and the most important, his salary is pretty low. But can we please choose someone with easier name… Frank De Boer or Remi Garde for example.

What worries me is , say ashley does spend a few bob close season ? Are the “can’t stay away mob ” going to look at this as a turnaround in fortunes and believe ashley has changed his ways or are they going to see it for what it is , another lousy attempt to convince the followers he really is the man to take us forward ?? It’s freightening how gullible some folk are .

Yes, there will be some who miss the train.

But hopefully, we may need to hire a special train to transport Mr Ashley back from whence he came.

It’ll need to be a special train though – one of the ones used to transport hazardous waste!
