Janmaat, Anita, Abeid, Obertan All Start – Jonas On Bench

liverpool-fc-crestnufc emblem

John Carver has just named his side for tonight’s tough game at Anfield and Daryl Janmaat is in the starting line-up, and that’s a huge relief (assuming he is fit), but the big shock is that Jonas has been dropped.

Teams:

Liverpool (4-3-3): Simon Mignolet; Glen Johnson, Emre Can, Dejan Lovren, Alberto Moreno; Joe Allen, Lucas Leiva, Jordan Henderson; Jordan Ibe, Raheem Sterling, Philippe Coutinho
Substitutes: Brad Jones, Javier Manquillo, Kolo Toure, Cameron Brannagan, Fabio Borini, Lazar Markovic, Rickie Lambert

Newcastle (4-3-3): Tim Krul; Ryan Taylor, Daryl Janmaat, Mike Williamson, Jack Colback; Moussa Sissoko (c), Mehdi Abeid, Vurnon Anita; Gabriel Obertan, Ayoze Perez, Remy Cabella
Substitutes: Rob Elliot, Jamie Sterry Jonas Gutierrez, Yoan Gouffran, Sammy Ameobi, Adam Armstrong, Emmanuel Riviere

Referee: Lee Mason (Lancashire)

Mehdi Abeid, Vurnon Anita and Gabby Obertan are the players brought into the starting line-up.

With Jonas on the bench and being our very best player against Sunderland, we just have to think he must be getting near his maximum number of games, before Newcastle need to offer him a new deal – via the terms of his contract.

The other game Newcastle could be playing is not to start him, because the new contract could be based on a stated number of starts for the club.

Either way – it’s ridiculous that Jonas has been dropped after his display at Sunderland.

But hey – it’s all about money at Newcastle United – we must remember that – and John Carver does what he is told.

A good question after this game is how come Jonas didn’t start when you said he was so great at Sunderland – or maybe the question will be asked before the game.

Other than Jonas,  the players who have been dropped from the Sunderland game are Yoan Gouffran and Sammy Ameobi. and it looks like we will be playing in a 4-3-3 formation against Liverpool’s similar formation.

In the eight years we’ve had this blog we haven’t seen too many polls where 93% of our readers think we will lose a game.

How Will Newcastle Fare At Liverpool?

Let’s just hope the lads put in a good shift tonight – and give it everything thy have.

Then we ask what exactly are Newcastle up to with Jonas Gutierrez.

This is probably one of the few games I would play Gouffran – to track Ibe and Sterling – but he doesn’t start for once!

Can somebody remind Carver that Anita can play RB? And he can play it better than Colback? Raylor can go left, because he can play there better than Colback.

Tactics are hard, aren’t they John?

    Disappointed
Dropping his best player last week Jonas.
    Disappointed
Only going with one up front – perez
when will he learn that he cannot play on his own up front playing hoofball.
Another defeat looming but hopefully a better performance !!!

Might put £500 on us to lose. The team is actually better than I thought. Would like to see Abeid and Anita have good games.

    Shall I risk the £500?

@Thump I dont understand it man
Anita is actually one of the better right backs we have in the squad. Colback is one of the better midfielders we have in the squad
But he insists on playing them out of position. Bloody bizarre

No formation named again. Carver truly is a pathetic sack of s***. The man cannot even write a formation on a team sheet, nor does he care if the fans may want to know.

Anyways, it looks fairly obvious Perez will be playing chase the ball on his own again.

    4-2-3-1 by my reckoning.

Single out jonas as the best player in the last game and drop him next? This guy is on another planet.
Colback at left back too and obertan brought in?’!!!

I pray for this season to be over and for us to finish 17th.

I see on previous threads Jeff was having a go at someone for getting something wrong. Hilarious coming from a guy who is so factually challenged.

I don’t condemn Jeff for his alleged (by others) lifestyle choices, just wish he’d get something right himself for a change.

    Oh yes Graeme,

Cameron’s on Ashley’s case so we can protest knowing that Ashley’ll change his ways as a result.

Maybe he’s arranged for the Club to donate the phantom £25m to Cameron’s campaign fund just for good measure!

4-3-3 against Liverpool away? Quite a surprise to me. Starting Obertan is madness. He can’t beat a man and he can’t cross the ball effectively. What does that leave for a winger?

Drop Obertan and Riviere. Play 4-4-2 with Perez and Cabella up front. Put Anita at RB. Play Sissoko in the middle of the midfield together with Colback if you’re not going to play Jonas Carver. Silly stuff this with 2 useless players in the attacking lineup.

We’ll get overrun in the midfield playing 4-3-3. They will destroy us with their midfield alone. A makeshift defense due to lack of depth is a disaster as well. Thanks Ashley. Pay attention to what the PM is saying you fat fool.
