The Chronicle is reporting that Daryl Janmaat – our emergency center-back because of Steven Taylor’s Achilles injury, Dummett’s knee injury and Fab Coloccini’s suspension – is now a doubt for tonight’s game at Anfield, and if he cannot play we don’t know who will come in to partner big Mike Williamson.
Daryl Janmaat doubtful
Daryl almost didn’t make it for the Sunderland game, when he seemed to have a calf problem, but he was OK and played quite well in our last game – which was unusual for Newcastle players that day.
However, after the Sunderland game the Newcastle medics and John Carver said that Daryl would be OK for tonight’s game, after he had been suspected of tearing a calf muscle.
So one question we have is if Daryl was OK seven days ago, how come he is now doubtful for the game tonight?
We’re not really sure who would come in if he cannot play – but it does point to the diabolical weakness of the Newcastle squad right now.
This weakening of the squad half-way through the season and not replenishing the squad when we were so short of players – and all for the sake of making money – has to stop.
We just have to hope that Daryl can play tonight, and one option could be to bring in Lubo Satka, but it’s very risky to play an inexperienced youngster in central defense when any mistake can lead directly to a goal.
And against Liverpool at Anfield too.
🙁
We have no idea who would come into the side, but this again pinpoints Newcastle’s problems in their rush to make money on players at any cost.
We were concerned we may be taken to the cleaners before we heard this news of yet another injury.
It also points to possible problems in the way our players pick up injuries in training, and then problems with the way the club handles the injuries.
Most good clubs would lodge an investigation into these areas at the end of the season.
This is now another worry for tonight’s game.

Comment #41Could it be that Janmaat’s pi$$ed off too and just doesn’t fancy being on the receiving end of yet another stuffing?
Wouldn’t be surprised

Comment #43I love your heading Ed…we’ve had an injury crisis every season! It really is beyond ridiculous. Derek Wright must be the worst physio in the game.
