On NBC Sports Network before tonight’s game at Liverpool, where the entire NBC crew for the Premier League were present at the game – both Robbie Earle and Robbie Mustow gave their opinions on Newcastle and John Carver this year – and their views were not very complimentary.
Robbie Mustow, Rebecca Lowe and Robbie Earle of NBC Sports Network
Both Robbies are the studio analysts for NBC, along with former US International Kyle Martino , as they cover the Premier League games each weekend with Rebecca Lowe, the studio host.
And also at the ground tonight was Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard, who sometimes appears on the broadcasts when he’s available.
Rebecca Lowe asked the question before the game – how is John Carver doing?
Here is Robbie Earle’s answer:
“I’ve been rally disappointed if I’m honest, we know he’s a fan and it hurts him, but get on with the job John, because you are in charge of this football club.”
“Two wins in this calendar year is awful, and this club is limping towards the end of the season.”
They need to get some respect back in the club house.”
And here is Robbie Mustow’s answer:
“You asked me at the Manchester City game (5-0 loss) were they are a mess – Newcastle United is a mess and from the ownership, I don’t know if they want to make Newcastle into a great club.”
“There’s an interim coach and injuries and suspensions.” They need to hit the rest button in the summer.”
And while Newcastle were fairly good in patches tonight in the 2-0 defeat, we should have been more than 1-0 down at the break.
The first goal was scored by Raheem Sterling after 9 minutes, but after 30 minutes we started to come into the game more and more.
We should have had a penalty in that first half, and we continued the good form into the second half – but as usual we couldn’t get a goal, and the second goal from Joe Allen after 70 minutes killed off the game.
Oh – and Moussa Sissoko stupidly got himself sent off after 82 minutes after picking up two second half yellow cards – hardly a good example from the Newcastle captain on the night.
He will now miss the Tottenham and Swansea games at home – a two match ban because he has already been sent off this season.
This year has certainly been a nightmare for John Carver and Newcastle United and in 14 games – we’ve only won two of them and lost nine.
And we’ve had Colback, Cisse, Coloccini and now Sissoko all suspended for a total of 14 games in total.
But this is what happens when you let your experienced manager leave the club half way through the season, and have no plans at all to replace him before the summer.
That same manager has a decent chance of being Manager of the Season at Crystal Palace.
The upper management of Newcastle United this year has been little short of a disgrace, and in the real business world – heads would roll.
