The Newcastle U21 team has a game tomorrow night at home to Derby County, and it looks like Siem de Jong will play in the game and maybe Rolando Aarons too.
Siem de Jong – will play tomorrow night
Siem has made a good recovery from his collapsed lung, and interim head coach John Carver has given a brief update this morning on both players and this is what he said:
“We’ve got a reserve game tomorrow night, and Siem de Jong will definitely play in that,” “I’m going to check on Rolando and see how he’s feeling.”
“If he’s up for it, we’ll give him some part of the game, but if not we’ll leave him alone for now.” “I can’t see, to be quite honest, either of them being available for Sunday.”
It would be great if we can get some class back into the side, and Siem de Jong and Rolando Aarons are two of Newcastle’s more creative players.
So even if neither is available for the game at home to Tottenham on Sunday, having them back even for the last three or four games of the season would be good.
And we do have Papiss Cisse coming back for the last three games of the season, but Moussa Sissoko embarrassed himself last night by getting himself sent off at Anfield and adding to Newcastle’s woes.
Moussa will miss the next two games.
We are a little worried about Rolando having damaged his hamstrings this season, so if he breaks down again that would be a big problem for both him and for Newcastle United

Comment #81Slank…A bigger issue than Ashley has become prominent in our task to bring change. It’s ourselves as fans.
We have no belief, that’s where things can start imo.
It’d be great if a proper dialogue could be opened up with Ashley, but surely the fans forum is a good indication of the chances of that working.
I think the first step is that we start to show ourselves, and then Ashley, that we can unite and find a way to work together as fans.
It’s step one.

You’re right financially it won’t bother Ashley however it may affect sky when deciding which matches to show.
Also if he is really thinking of selling in 2016 prospective buyers would be put off by protesters and a empty stadium.
IMO hust the idea of a protest is already having a affect, check out the wums on here and all the people at the club asking us not to do it.

Comment #85What Ciaran conveniently omits is the fact that our outstanding debt is £129M. If the fans owned the club, they’d have to pay full commercial interest. Yes, the club could claw some money in through sponsorhip but it wouldn’t cover it by any means. It’s well seen that he’s never run a business. Now he admits he hasn’t got the answers and does his usual trick of running away.

Comment #86This is the Mag article Mr Tuff alludes to in full.
I will search for other media reaction. It will be interesting to see what those who know “the way the world works” make of it.

Comment #87Each Premier League team is guaranteed a minimum amount of TV appearances a season, whether the stadium is full of not. The only thing that influences which teams are shown more regularly are viewing figures. The big games generate the biggest viewing figures.
The quality of the product will also determine what games the TV companies will show, not how full the stadium is. At must clubs if the home team is playing a poor standard of football the fans stay away. Likewise the TV companies will stay away also as no-one wants to watch poor teams, except the fans of the clubs involved. Therefore it is the product being served up rather than crowd size that determines additional TV coverage.
Boycotting TV coverage will be the most effective way of hitting Ashley in the pocket. Boycotting TV coverage will have the biggest impact to Ashley because as viewing figures fall as will the TV revenue. Boycotting matches will be the most visible way of showing our discontent.

Not sure what you draw from that article? What?
It tells me next to nothing about NUFC, although it does give more than a hint at what the Mag thinks. I’m not particularly interested in Ashley’s overall wealth from all sources.

I believe wums on here and all the people at the club asking us not to do it will have no effect on Ashley as I guess he almost certainly doesn’t read these blogs and he doesn’t involve himself into the day to day management of the club.
Where it may impact him is his decision to sell the club and that may be dependent upon whether the club is doing well or not. I saw a conversation on telly recently where the pundits explained why Premiership clubs known to be up for sale (Everton, Villa and Newcastle) are not being bought. Apparently the UEFA Fair Play Rules prohibit or severely curtail a rich owner from using his money (ie that not generated by the club) to buy success like Abramovich and the Mansours did for their respective clubs even with creative accountants.
Given that, then a buyer may have different motives but surely a self financing successful club on and off the field must I think be more an attractive proposition than a club that isn’t successful. Would a new owner be any different to Ashley ? Nobody knows. But Ashley is a known winner and with the club financially secure there should be no reason to hold back to make the club, through team performances, more successful and attractive.
Perhaps we have to endure the remaining games before a head coach is appointed with new players shipped in and existing players shipped out.

the thing is why invest in something if you are only going to employ the mediocre.
