Newcastle United have been linked with Birmingham City winger Demarai Gray, according to a report in Goal, and we were first linked with Gray while Lee Clark was still the manager at Birmingham last summer.
Demarai Gray – Newcastle linked with winger
The 18 year-old youngster has already played for the England U18 and U19 sides, and Newcastle are always interested in recruiting good young players, and a new priority on Tyneside is to get more Englishmen to the club.
Demarai played 9 times with one goal last season for his home town club, and he has already played 40 times with six goals this season, and he has been one of top young stars in the Championship.
The other club said to be interested in the player this season is Aston Villa, and with their comeback under new manager Tim Sherwood this year, where they have reached the FA Cup final and will be bought by a rich Chinese consortium in May, it may be that Villa would be a better option for the talented youngster.
Gray’s contract runs out at the end of June, but with the player being under 24 Birmingham would still be due some compensation, but the young winger would be a great acquisition for Newcastle if we can get him to the club.
Liverpool and Spurs have also been credited with an interest in the young left winger, but it’s difficult to know if those links are accurate.
We do expect Newcastle to bring is some very good teenagers to the club this summer, as well as more experienced players, because the Newcastle squad has be rebuilt in the summer, if we are to have a decent side next season and not be fighting relegation.
If Newcastle avoid relegation this season, it will be really interesting to see if there are any meaningful changes that Mike Ashley will make in the running of the Tyneside club.
His policies have proved to be unsuccessful in the almost eight years he has been the owner.
