NUFC Fans Forum Shows Initiative – Timely Response Required

The Newcastle Fans Forum group has issued an open letter today asking owner Mike Ashley for a “statement of intent” on the club’s future plans.

Mike Ashley – three good relevant questions to Mike Ashley

It’s a timely move from a representative group that meets with Newcastle United officials every three months in an attempt to get more meaningful communication going from the club to the fans and vice versa and has a broad level of representation of the Newcastle fan base.

The Fan Forum group has basically asked three questions in their open letter, and request a response to each one of the points, and preferably from owner Mike Ashley himself.

Here is the full statement from Newcastle United’s Fans Forum.

The following statement is from the Fans Forum. This has been produced following discussion with all available members. It has been copied to members of the press.

Communication.

Whilst we fully appreciate the club’s view on fan communication, we feel that the time has come to show our fans respect and make some kind of ‘statement of intent’ outlining your proposals to overturn the negativity surrounding NUFC. We would very much prefer this statement to come from Mike Ashley himself, owner of NUFC.

This statement should include:-

A) The club’s view on the boycott of 1000s of fans at the weekend. What plans do the owners and operators of NUFC have to correct the current plight that we find ourselves in?

B) The reason why Jonas Gutierrez was left out of the squad. Despite Jonas stating that he was not injured it was clear that Jonas was one of very few players that could be described as ‘giving his all’ at the recent derby loss. Was the omission connected, in any way, to a comment he made on social media?

C) As the players appear to be playing without any leadership and discipline (Sissoko/Coloccini/Cisse bans) what is the plan going forward in relation to the ‘head coach’ role? At our recent meeting, [Managing Director] Lee Charnley stated that, “We asked John to look after the team for the remainder of the season and told him to make sure that we had a ‘decision’ to make.” There appear to be several sources stating that they believe that John Carver will be head coach next season. Can you confirm that those ‘rumours’ are 100% inaccurate.

We are in total agreement that we feel that it is appropriate to ask for an urgent response. Any suggestion that we should wait until our final meeting of the year would be met with our overwhelming disapproval.

Signed:- NUFC FANS FORUM

That’s a good and reasonable request, and the club should issue a response in a timely manner – hopefully this week.

The Newcastle United Board cannot just continue to say nothing about our current plight, and cannot hide out when there are definite problems and difficulties in the club – and silence is not an option in these types of circumstances – two-way communication is what’s required.

The Executives of the club have to assume the responsibility and take the leadership when the club is in trouble, which is what happens in a real business in the real world.

The club has to respond to what is an honest request from the NUFC Fans Forum on three different and topical issues.

Comments welcome.

Off the back of the AshleyOut crew as you like to refer to them. A full thread dedicated to a fans forum that’s never had the bawls to ask the pertinent questions before. Suppose better late than never thought eh. I actually applaud them for doing so. Never seen the point in the charade they decided to call the fans forum up until now.

Probably best to watch what you say after the whole Oyston saga at Blackpool, unless you’ve 20 grand in the bank of course. 🙂

It’ll be interesting to see if Dispatches managed to get close to him and obtain a response.

They’re usually pretty good at that stuff.

A good move from the Forum but unless Ashley sees their letter, he can’t respond!

Is the letter likely to be shown in the national press? Is there enough money anywhere to pay for it to be published as a full-page in the national daylies – including the FT, Times, Guardian etc?

If hard copy hasn’t been sent to his private address and the Secretary at the Club then it’d be wise to do just that – using Royal Mail registered post.

Maybe I’m stating the obvious but doing the above reduces Ashley’s wriggle room
