Newcastle Tracking The New Vincent Kompany

Newcastle are said to be interested in Anderlecht full-back Chancel Mbemba, and we were first linked with this player last year.

Chancel Mbemba – the new Vincent Kompany

The 6 ft tall defender is often compared with Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany in the way he plays,  and the lad already has 14 caps for DR Congo and played for them in the African Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea, when they were losing semi-finalists to eventual winners Ivory Coast, and eventually finished in 3rd place.

Mbemba was born in Kinshasa, DR Congo whereas Kompany was born in Belgium, but both are of Congolese descent.

Chief Scout Graham Carr has been at a number of Anderlecht games this season, but the principal player Graham has been watching is their young 20 year-old Serbian striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, although the Belgian press have said we are also watching this defender.

The right footed central defender who can also play at full back is an imposing player, and Newcastle have been credited with an interest as have both Porto and Atletico Madrid, with other unnamed Premier League clubs also said to be interested.

Reports in Belgium say the player is aware of Newcastle’s interest and is even keen on a move to the Premier League this summer.

Mbemba is surrounded with an age controversy.

The player was registered with the Congolese club E.S. La Grace back in 2006 and showed his birth date as 8 August 1988, but when he registered with Anderlecht six years later his birth date was  8 August 1994 – so in this six years he didn’t age at all.

And then he registered with a third date of birth (30 November 1991) for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.

So he could be 20,23 or 26 – take your choice – and FIFA have also investigated his age.

He is generally shown as being 20 years old with his birth-date 8 August, 1994.

The new reports in Belgium say the player may have a buyout clause of about £5M in his contract with the Belgium club, which has over two years to run.

Newcastle are good at finding these things out, and of course we need strengthening at center-back, and he can also play at right-back.

He joined Anderlecht in 2012 and has played for them 70 times with 9 goals.

He’s not too tall at just under 6 ft,  but he’s said to be a good header of a ball and has excellent positional play.

What do you think?

So we’ve been interested in about 50 players so far and we’re a long way from the transfer window – is there any point in posting these entries – may as well just put up random players who cost under 5 million
I don’t think we’ve signed one player from the ‘toon interested in …. ‘ stories

I’m aware Ed’s just posting what is in the press / media but I’m not sure theres any point – I’d prefer actual news including what is actually happening with the protests etc – I’m not asking Ed to take sides but to report on actual facts or rumours that may have some actual basis in fact

Heres a thought from left field
Perhaps Graham Carr spends so much time at Anderlecht because he’s looking at their young Albanian manager , Besnik Hasi !!!!

I agree with mineshaft. Whilst we know ed writes/repeats what he finds from various news sauces (not a problem with me) not once has he wrote about the “crew” as he so subtly calls them even though it’s what every fan is discussing and the wider media as a whole.

Even the ones who do not agree are wrapped up in it.

A worthy topic that he refuses to acknowledge. Obviously that’s his right but to completely dismiss it apart from a few lines here and there just doesn’t seem right somehow.

I’m grateful to ed for supplying the platform for NUFC fans to discuss ALL topics.

First time comment from a previous blog reader only.
Profits mention are over 30 million, so what do we dream about for the 50 odd players mentioned, we can have one at 30; 2 at 15; 3 at 10 and so on.
Hopefully the new Manager/Coach will address the weakest areas after a much needed exodus of certain players which in theory will create a little bit more revenue.
The first for me however is to get the right guy in charge and in my humble opinion it is unfortunately not John Carver.

If his birth date was Aug ’94 then he would qualify as under 21 next season and wouldn’t need to be named in the 25 man squad.

But what happens if we sign him, don’t name him in the squad on that understanding and play him in PL games, only to find out later that he wasn’t eligible because he turned out to be a few years older?

Get your facts right fella. I’m not looking for a pat on the head. But when I’ve been the one saying a protest outside SD stores would be more appropriate and effective, I’ve been pooh poohed, a lone voice. Little if any support on here, not even from those now saying they were arguing for it last year who are now quick to jump on me. Now it’s the next thing for AO.

As for Blackleg that was a name given to me by your gang mates on here. Show me where you came over all sanctimonious with them when they said it. I like it anyway. It’s humorous like quite a few things that have been aimed at me. As for the personal dogs abuse I get, I don’t mind it because it just shows the people using it have lost the argument.

So look at where it comes from first fella. It’s all too typical of people like you who jump on one post and ignore the background.

    Quality 😀

There’s lots of interpretation of what Jeffreys “left field” could be. Narnia being one of many. Outer space? Test tube? 300bc? Yet undiscovered spiral galaxies?
