It’s been another terrible season for Newcastle United, and it looks like the final five games of this season could be even worse than last year, when we lost four of them, and in all lost seven games of the last eight games played.
If we lose all five games we could be relegated again to the Championship.
Gary Monk – opportunity for Swansea
Newcastle fans have been asked again to support another boycott on Saturday when we play Swansea, and Swansea manager Gary Monk is hoping to use the discontent and anger of the Newcastle fans, and the lack of form and confidence of the Newcastle players, to help win the game for Swansea.
Both managers were asked about the Newcastle fan actions today, during their press conferences for the game.
John Carver was asked about last week’s fan boycott:
“I was surprised,” “I did not think it would be as many people. We have to find a way of dealing with it and managing the situation because it can only hurt us – that is the fans and the club. We need to find a solution.”
“The people who were in the stadium weren’t quite sure how to react. Some of them were annoyed that people had stayed away, others were delighted. It was strange.”
“There was a lot of apprehension around the place. I hear there were people falling out with each other in the stands. That cannot help. I thought it didn’t affect us during the game, but on reflection I think it does.”
“We have had discussions about ongoing issues at the club and I have regular meetings with Managing Director Lee Charnley and Chief Scout Graham Carr, at least once a week,”
“I have not been given any assurances or been told what my situation is next season.
This is what Gary Monk, the Swansea manager has said and it seems he will hope the Newcastle fans will turn against the team, assuming Swansea can play well on Saturday:
“As a player you have to concentrate on your football. No player goes out on the pitch without the intention of giving his best and I’m sure all the Newcastle fans will be thinking that.”
“Hopefully we can use the crowd against the team, if we perform well, but the idea is to focus on ourselves.”
Swansea were beaten 2-0 last week at Leicester City, but they are likely to find it easier on Saturday against what has become a dispirited and out of form Newcastle side.
And our readers are pretty sure we will lose this game.
Then we’ll just have to see how the clubs beneath us fare in their league games on Saturday, and it seems the worst case scenario is that we will be four points above the drop zone with 4 games to play.
Comments welcome.

Comment #48And, in any case, in our current panic status, one or more of those 4-5 MF, will slot in defensive position when they attack.
The formations I suggest should have US on the front foot, to quote the master AP 🙂

Comment #51I do see what you mean. But, for THIS game, given their able but slow CF and wily wingers, we can play with just one CB. In fact, Jan who isn’t fast, may have more probs than Anita, believe it or not.

Comment #52Rather than think formation, maybe it’s best to think eliminating their threat while surprising, overwhelming them. A strong MF should do that. The only team I saw literally destroy Swans is… Liverpool, playing with 4 or 5 in the middle. Poor Shelvey was lost, despite efforts.

Comment #53Why talk about playing ……3 5 2, 3 4 3 , 4 2 3 1,etc ??? We don’t have ANY system after 4 years of both Pardew & Carver, we’ve got school playground & local park football type only as far as I see.

3 at the back mostly used in Italy, 3-4-3 or 3-5-2.
the wide players serve as wb, in defense they become fb and attack as wingers. the extra man at the back (cb) will provide cover when the wide players leave their position to join attack.
that’s how normally used in Italy, I never once saw just 1cb with 2fb in defense even if they were reduced to 10 or 9 players on the field.

Comment #55Swansea are missing Gomis but they gave heaps if pace up front in Emnes, Dyer, Montero and Routledge. They will also have the most creative player on the pitch in Sigurdson so I am expecting nothing other than a defeat here.

Comment #57So how many are planing on taking Ashley up on his cheap ticket offer?
…remember keeping this protest constant will ensure forever cheap tickets. Most be someone who gets itchy fingers?
Or does people have a spine? Surely you can see what’s going on here? Ashley is not charitable – he is making sure SJP is full so it will go unnoticed in the media and so he’ll keep getting the TV-revenue…
That’s where it hurts! It’s not your money he’s interested in only your presence! Think about it the next time you stand in line at SJP for beer and pie!

given your point about the back 3, I admit I researched the matter and 1 CB, 2 FB is indeed an option, sometimes by big names too. e.g. that unlikable but very clever Man U coach.

Much better you don’t talk about the politics of the club because you are always so wrong on every level, stick to talking about football you seem to know much more about that.

On Carver, the guy has come out and said that he thinks a majority of fans think that Mashers is doing a good job, he obviously didn’t see the Chronicle poll that suggested 93% didn’t. The guy isn’t doing himself any favours.

Comment #64Brutoon, Gouffran won’t do nothing. He’ll lose the ball as usual in the middle and make a silly pirouette while Swansea score on the break.
This quote from Carver though:
“We had a group of people in this week, they were sponsors, about 20 of them through the week. They couldn’t believe what they were watching. That’s how good it was.”
Anyone else who think they couldn’t believe what they were watching because of how bad it was?

Anything he says should be discounted as company rhetoric and not to be taken seriously.
We currently have a month long comedy festival here in Melbourne. Carver would be better employed here than at SJP.

Comment #66No offence Cyprus, but I hope Carver doesn’t go with that side you picked. Why would you pick Rivi or Chucky? One has done nothing in the first team, the other barely gets a game at reserve team level! You disregard Arma who has scored regularly for England youth sides, and is the Under 21’s top scorer, but pick a bloke who has done nothing since arriving? Weird.
3 defenders with Anita as one of them?? Again baffling.
Also, Sissoko is still suspended.

Comment #68Lawro predicts a 1-1 draw, then has his take on Carver.
“He is a good coach too by the way, because I have seen him at work. He must be tearing his hair out wondering what he can do to turn things round.”
I’ve also seen his coaching first hand, and have to say he is likeable, but not a Premier league coach.

It’s a shame that a guy who does seem quite popular is going to rank among some of the most disliked figures in our modern history.
Does anyone think he has been told to say 20 sponsors simply because there aren’t any sponsors left.

Unless the club decide to take a massive hit and virtually give him away, yes. French sports journalists were astounded last summer – check artless and twitter feeds – that we bought him and paid so much.
I’m really struggling to see redeeming features in his play. He isn’t strong, he isn’t particularly quick, his touch is poor, his shooting powder puff.
If I didn’t know how upstanding and inherently good the people running this club are, then I would be convinced that a dog with a bank account in Monaco was made very rich last summer.

Arma is fourth in our assists for the season…. More than everyone except Janmaat, Colback, and Sameobi. Utterly embarrassing, but correct nonetheless.
I’d start Arma, he is the only one at the club scoring regular goals and high on confidence. Personally, if De Jong isn’t fit enough to start, I’d go
Janmaat, Willo, Colo, Anita
Colback, Abeid
Cabella
Perez Arma Rivi/Sameobi
If De Jong is fit enough to start he would come in for Rivi/Sameobi with Cabella pushing into the front 3 and De Jong slotting in the attacking midfield role.

Carver was my coach whilst he was with the youths, and from first hand, he is a likeable bloke. All this pandering to the board is really disappointing from him.
Jail,
They could all be 20 sponsors from Wonga. They made a big loss, maybe we are giving them jobs as ground staff before they become unemployed. We will need to hide another lump of cash in the next accounts, so why not make a show of further employment!
On Carver, it is sad he has reduced himself to this, same goes for Beardsley and Moncur. In 20 years time as they retire in their luxury house in Darras Hall will it all have been worth it?

don’t remember the assists you keep referring to in your posts, but I do remember one or two misplaced shots that other people put into the net 😉
You persist with Rivi- THAT’s weird :), immediately after you slate him; and that ‘thin’ MF will be eaten alive, 60-30% possession, at home.
Over to you JC. Cyprus or Lilo (or your choice!).
