After his seventh defeat on the trot interim head coach could have limited his bravado talk after the game – but no – he has come out and talked about how he is not ready to quite and will fight on – much like we’ve heard after the other defeats.
John has to realize it’s not about him but it’s all about the team.
John Carver and Garry Monk before the game
Fans don’t want to hear how John Carver feels after these defeats, but what is he going to do about it.
And it may that John is just completely out of his depth now – and it’s hard for anybody to get a win after seven successive defeats because players then find ways of losing games and it’s all in the mind.
This is some of what the coach said after the game:
“It was a huge disappointment, a huge disappointment – but we are not ready to quit, not ready to pack in, not ready to thrown in the towel. That is very important, and that applies to me and the rest of my staff.”
“Yes, I am getting stick from the crowd and I can take all that. I’ll take that on the chin, I’ll explain to people why I do things, I don’t have a problem with that. If anybody wants to talk me about it, I will talk to them about it. But I won’t give up on it and I will fight to the end.”
“I have got to try and make those guys feel 10 foot tall, as much as I can. Sometimes it is quite difficult, but it is my job and my responsibility to try and pick them up and do that.”
With things becoming a little desperate, it’s not going to be John Carver’s decision as to whether he coaches the final games of the season.
It may be getting to the time when somebody with a lot more experience in the Premier league is brought in as a short term solution to guide the team to safety – and of course all we need is just one win.
An experienced manager coming in may not happen this week, but if the results in mid-week go against us, and we lose at Leicester City on Saturday, it could happen then.

You couldn’t blame Ayew if he went to North Shields rather than SJP!

Comment #42One we couldn’t get over the line.
Probably because that line leads to a dead end club, a club players want to escape from due to it being a stepping stone to mediocrity for most who come.

Comment #44There has to be serious questions asked about the standard of players that the club has recruited this season. I said early doors that Riviere and Cabella aren’t good enough. Perez looks a prospect but needs a season in the championship. De Jong has proved to be a crock. Only Janmaat has been able to do a job. Who is the Director of Football responsible for this? There isn’t one. It’s a joke. The buck stops with Ashley.

“I’m not a quitter”
Let’s recap. Carver is only “I, I, I”… not the club first…

Comment #465 points above 3rd bottom and 12 up for grabs
Assuming we get ZERO points from our last four, here’s the minimum points needed for at least FOUR teams to put us 18th:
Aston villa – 3pts from four games
Hull – 4pts from five games
Leicester – 4pts from five games
Sunderland – 6pts from five games (assuming their GD remains worse than ours)
It looks like they have plenty of points to pick up, but lets be real, all FOUR of these clubs have picked up less than a point per game for the whole season! Aston Villa are the only club who will probably leap frog us as they have an inspirational manager. Leicester’s run could keep going so lets say they leap frog us too.
That means Hull and Sunderland basically need two wins each from five games. 6 points would be a better than usual return from 5 games for all of these teams so I just don’t see it happening.
And lets be honest, are Newcastle really going to make history with an ELEVEN game losing run??? Unless Carver is match fixing I seriously doubt it! We will at least draw one of our last four and that’s as good as us winning the premier league for the teams below us.

Comment #47I thought we played the best we’ve played since the first half at Chelsea in the first half today.
Everyone looked up for it, we were well worth our 1 goal lead. Swansea got a header on every corner though and then low and behold scored in injury time.
That seemed to knock the stuffing out of us and we capitulated as usual. Awful, awful defending for their next 2 goals and then we came right back at them.
A draw was a fair result but we only have crap defenders so will most likely defend crap (apart from janmaat).
Hopeful de jong can add a goal threat to our team and Aaron’s, cisse and sissokho can make a difference in the last few games.
The club is an embarrassment to it’s fans!!!!

Comment #51Just got back in ok right Blackley, saw your comments about the incompetence at the management levels and I have to say that…….i actually agree with you! Ashley delegates too much as he hasn’t a clue about the football business. But Charnley is not the guy he’s just some administrative bean sorter and the proof of the old pud is carver. They’re all in the wrong game.

Loads have complained at the lack of anyone decent appointed in any role, from manager upwards, Ashley gets a lot of stick for it.
People slated the appointment of people like Wise, Kinnear, Llambias, Charnley (the last 2 having too much say in football matters when they are more on the business side).
It’s nothing new. I do agree with you though.
Player recruitment is terrible, but that’s what happens when you only try to sign players below market value on the off chance you make a profit on them. Sometimes you need to buy experience even if it costs more.
Cabella was a good signing for me, even though it hasn’t worked, he was good in France and good in the champions league, has attributes that work in the league.
It’s very difficult to judge how good or bad these lads are when the level of coaching is non existent. Any team wouldn’t reach it’s potential if they coaching/organising was way off.

Comment #55Could we not play our remaining matches at the Training Ground ?
Clearly that’s where the action is according to Carver and we probably never loose there.
The Wonga inmates like it apparently.
The ultimate boycott as no fans allowed.
Carver doesn’t get shouted at.
No press.
And lots of pies in the canteen.
That’s the way to do it !

Comment #56Evidently Carver had a major run-in with fans after the end of the game, squared up to some of them, effing & blinding, wanted to fight them – unfortunately witnessed by quite a few people from within the Club and many spectators. It was brought up by a reporter, later and now this has been released!!
