There is not much leadership coming from John Carver as the head coach these days, and he seems to be too overwhelmed by the job, and there’s not much leadership coming from captain Fabricio Coloccini, who will probably join his home town club San Lorenzo in the summer, but we have been impressed with what Siem de Jong has said since Saturday’s defeat, and he is definitely a future captain of Newcastle and maybe even for next season.
Siem de Jong – in action on Saturday
This is some of what a low-key Siem said on nufcTV after the seventh defeat in a row on Saturday:
“The most important thing today was to get points and we didn’t, so I feel sad about that, but a little bit happy about being back on the pitch and being back in the first team.”
“But it’s not about me at this point, it’s more about the team.” “We started off quite well and got a good goal but just before half time they got a goal.”
“They got the upper hand and then scored two goals.” “I was glad I put it in, but it was a little bit too late.”
“It’s a really important game on Saturday. We just need the points and it doesn’t matter against who, but if you lose against Leicester, of course the teams below you come closer.”
“We know how important it is and hopefully we can turn it around next week.”
Daryl Janmaat is also a possible future captain but we cannot see him at Newcastle come September, because there will be some good ambitious clubs after him, including two managed by Dutch managers – Southampton and Manchester United.
So we think he will be sold to one of those clubs and we’ll get double the money we paid for him last summer.
The first £10M bid will see Mike Ashley do what he loves to do – cash in on his players.
And that will be £5M he’s made off Daryl in a short twelve months, let’s see now, that’s £417K/month – yes – another wonderful deal.
The fact that Daryl has been our best player this season has nothing to do with anything, and Newcastle can always bring in another decent right back for around £3M – or we’ll even splash out £4M if he’s really good.
That’s Mike Ashley’s doctrine for Newcastle, and while our financials look great, his policies have failed miserably over the last eight years and today’s side is probably the worst we have ever had in the Premier League.
We don’t think Mike Ashley is a fit and proper owner for any Premier League club, let alone for Newcastle United.
Comments welcome.

Comment #121I see AO have issued a review statement for the Swansea game.
Apparently they are say that they had no intention to protest outside all the shops listed in the area – -just Northumberland
Street and the others were listed to cause Tubbs expenditure employing extra security.

Comment #124Tuff…Just noticed the bit at the end.
Finally it was very heartening to see a large number of empty seats once again, as more and more fans make a clear statement that their support cannot be taken for granted by an owner who doesn’t appear to have the slightest interest in the club’s on-field performance. The ‘official’ attendance given by the club (46,884) was the lowest of the season, although as with the Spurs game the actual number of those who attended was clearly lower.

Comment #130ibiza/op – I think that probably a bit of dis-information is a useful tool to use – but it has probably caused a bit of confusion amongst those “not in the loop”.
But lets see wht the TV programme reveals tonight and what AO’s plans are.
I see that AO are saying that the stewards had no right to take the red cards from people – not correct they did if they “reasonably” thought that the display of the cards would cause offence to others – pathetic reasonings but if they believe it they can do it.
Looks like one or two youngsters made paper darts out of them – therefore would fall foul of the throwing objects rule in the ground conditions.

Comment #131Tuff…Not sure it “looks like” at all really. I’ve seen nothing to even come close to “looks”, just a few comments that it might have happened or they’d heard it had.
Does any bit of paper not run the risk of people making it in to a paper airplane? Even matchday programmes could.
The excuse is as weak as they come imo, but no doubt it’ll be the one they go with.
Hibbit…It would probably be best if he did have time off at the weekend rather than managing the team.

Comment #132ibiza – indeed they could come up with a number of ridiculous reasonings to justify their actions. However if looks like a sufficient number of red cards were displayed inside the ground to make the point.

The way Ashley runs NUFC offends me so I hope they drag the slug out of Newcastle by his boot straps.
I kinda figured at the time most would go to the toon, I went elsewhere to see what was happening.
As I said on the day 2 doormen and 3 secutity guards in a SD on a retail park must be the norm 😉
Personally I think all home game protests should be at SJP save SD for away matches and after the seasons over.

Comment #134Tuff…Personally, as a fan, I feel it my responsibility to help them out.
Was anyone else offended by the font they used on those flyers?
The point was made, and well. That is of course what remains important.
The fact the club are making themselves look petty and out of touch is just an added “bonus” – although I wish it wasn’t so.

The official attendance was probably fairly close to the real attandance, there was a lot more there than against Spurs.
Bit sneaky of AO.com to show the empty seats in the away section in their photo of the ground.
And of course there’s no way of knowing at what point during the game they took that photo

Comment #136op The bloke on the Dispatches programme who is also a Telegraph writer, in his Telegraph column was on about the sale price ticketing scam. I’m eagerly waiting to see the programme to get more details of this -and if I think it’s a “goer” I’ll have no problems sending a complaint email to Trading Standards at all the local authorities in the area asking them to investigate.
But lets see what the programme reveals about Tubbs dodgy dealings.

Comment #137Macas…Still, the official attendance was lower than the Spurs game.
I think the bigger aim for that game was the Stand Up To Ashley on the 34th minute.
Seemed to be a fair amount who stood up, obviously I wasn’t at the game though.

The official figure was down due to there being 1600 less away fans.
I imagine a lot of the season ticket holders who stayed away for the Spurs game came back for this one.
A large number of fans stood up, the chanting was maybe a little bit half hearted but still effective.

Comment #139Macas…Fair enough. I think we’re on the same page.
Isn’t most of the in-ground chanting a little bit half hearted recently?
It’s like people are afraid of something.

Trading Standards is no longer a front line organisation. You’re supposed to go to Consumer Direct first.
Best of luck. 🙂
