Poll Results – Bad News For Newcastle On Two Counts

We have put out two polls out in the last day or two –  one asks whether fans think Newcastle will be relegated this season – and the other is on how we’ll do at Leicester City on Saturday, which is really a relegation six pointer.

nigel-pearson-211.jpg

Nigel Pearson – when he was a coach at Newcastle in 2008

And unfortunately the fans have been fairly accurate over the last several games on how the games are go – the though we would lose every one of them – so if they are right again on Saturday it will not be good news at Leicester City.

How Will Newcastle Fare At Leicester?

View Results
Loading ... Loading ...

And as far as relegation goes there was a slight majority yesterday who thought we could be safe this season, but maybe because of Hull’s great 1-0 win at home to Liverpool last night, which put them just one point behind us with a much better goal difference – that brought out voters who think we will in fact be relegated.

Either way it’s a close run thing.

Will Newcastle Be Relegated This Season?

Loading ... Loading ...

There’s still time to vote in both polls,  but we allow only one vote per reader in all our polls – so we can get a true cross-section of what supporters think.

Maybe we can do something to help yourselves on Saturday – and actually win the game?

Wouldn’t that be something.

Let’s put it this way – if we lose for the 8th successive time at Leicester, there should be loud alarm bells going off at St. James’ Park.

But maybe not – we really don’t know what the higher-ups at the club  are thinking right now because they don’t talk to us – it seems they only put out statements theses days to defend Sports Direct.

What a terrible way to run a football club.

Comments welcome.

I woke up this morning in an ambivalent frame of mind (goodness knows how or why) and somehow felt compelled to set my stall out with the intention of seeking some level of understanding for Ashley and his bedfellows at NUFC … and to try to run with it.
My reconciliation hasn’t lasted beyond mid afternoon!!! ….but I have tried.
You’re a shyster Ashley; a chancer. An iconic city and its people, and the British footballing fraternity are not all wrong. The sooner you realise you are in a fatal tailspin in the way you treat NUFC the more chance you have of maintaining any credibility.
Pull back from the brink …………….. now.

It would be good if Ed could give the lads who are trying to get the club to release a statement a bit of exposure instead of just griping about it.

Think with Sissoke,Cisse, De Jong and Arrons on the pitch well be to strong for the teams we have left to play we just need to get them fit and playing for at least the last 3 games so I don’t think we’ll be relegated and think a draw is possible on Saturday

Mr T, thanks for posting the Telegraph link again and the quote you put up has one telling word:

“Newcastle United contributed £3.4m in revenue to Sports Direct last year, according to the retailer’s annual report”

The word being “retailer’s” and not “the club’s” accounts 😉

I voted for a draw, too. The surest thing about any run of form – good or bad – is that it is more likely to end than to continue. A couple of returning players should tip it.

Can anyone give me any information on a local sports retailer called Start Football?

I know Start Football is a trading name of W & M Wholesale Limited and based in Cramlington. The owner is local, from Whitley Bay. He also owns a number of other similar businesses like Start Fitness.

    http://startfootball.co.uk/

They seem to be in direct competition with Ashley’s tat shop even selling NUFC gear and just down the road on Pilgrim St. (the old gas showroom). I’m assured they have no dealings with Ashley.

    Any ideas/info?

according to oddschecker we are between about 10 and 16 to one to be relegated which is far more reliable than the poll on this web site. if the odds are say 14/1 this means that if the end of season was played out about 14 times we would only be relegated once so the probability we will be relegated is actually quite low.

Yes. Safe, barring miracles. I expect there to be 4-5 teams on 34 or less, and I expect us to finish at worst 15th, probably a couple of places higher.

    Jane

14-1 is the bookies’ odds after building in their percentage. True odds may be more like 20 to 1. But the odds also reflect betting. If a few optimistic Mackems put sizeable bets on us going down, for example, the bookies shorten the odds.

Agreed, it’d be helpful if Ed could give a bit of coverage to the Club’s lack of urgency when dealing with the FF letter.

Maybe you should contact him to ask for his support in publicising that particular issue? albeit objective reporting

Sunderland’s 2 home games are Southampton and Leicester. Away games to Everton and Chelsea. I’m not sure whether they will be able to claim 5 or more points in those 4 games but stranger things have happened.

Hull have Burnley and Man U at home, with Arsenal and Spurs away. Think they could claw a few points from those games.

Leicester have Chelsea, us, Southampton and QPR at home and Sunderland away. I can see them getting a few wins from these games.

Villa have Everton, West Ham, and Burnley at home, with Southampton away. I can see at least 1 win in these games, maybe another few points on top of that.

We’ve got West Ham and West Brom at home, with QPR and Leicester away. We need to get at least 1 point from these games.

I think we will, but in my opinion 35 points, with our goal difference, will not be enough.

Belfast my local bookies in Limerick has us down for 14/1 . I have thought for some weeks now that we would be relegated and regret not putting down a few euro before now. However I did today and it will help ease the pain if / when we go down. As I keep saying only Sunderland being poor or Siem de Jong being excellent can keep us up.
    1. Sunderland have more fight than us and a better coach ( albeit with a nasty run in ) that Charva
    2. De Jong isnt fit and doesnt seem like a player who gets to full fitness fast.

I put €20 on today. Naturally I hope I am wrong.

I think the Chronicle should advertise for anyone who witnessed the Toon’s last league title in 1927 when Hughie Gallagher was in his prime before being sold to Chelsea. Some things about failing to keep your best players and lack of ambition never change. That title was won 88 years ago and I do not envisage us winning it again for another 88 years. Big club? lets move on…. Anyway, I think it would be great if the paper videoed the supporters of that year to recall their thoughts. Just as the documentary channel did for the centurions of the First World War. They would need to be about 95 years old to have any recall. Is anybody still alive that recalls that team? It would be great to have their thoughts because thats the nearest I will get to a title before I meet my maker. 50 years of watching and still counting. Are you reading Carver and Ashley you twats.

    Lilo & b&b from earliercthread

As I said last night I watched the c4 programme AFTER reading the clubs press release so I was waiting to see what they were complaining about.
Apart from some (proven) comments about the SD name on the ticketing and bills in the shop the only other statement was that SD had received 3.4 mil from the deal.
I saw nothing that could be described as mis-representation of the relationship, although one could always draw one’s own conclusion.

I can see Villa struggling to stay up or even being a surprise to go down even though 3 of their 4 games are at home. Everton and West Ham at home they could easily end up with only 1 or 2 points from then Southampton away draw at best and that leaves a potential showdown with Burnley in the last match.

    Hi guys and gals,

Last week we asked blog members to again show solidarity with fellow fans taking a stand to bring change to the club.

The post went up a lot later than the week before. But the response was nearly as good in a fraction of the time.

The past 2 weeks have been a whirlwind. Individual fans and groups that have long been active in trying to bring change to NUFC.

They have been viewed as the enemy in some quarters in the past, and their support called into question.

Now they are beginning to work in unity. This is a very hopeful development.

“Howay the Fans” is taken from a phrase that grew up among blog members. It became the natural rallying cry for the efforts of bloggers here to unify and express hope.

HWTF is not a group. It’s an idea, a belief.

It isn’t a gang. It certainly isn’t a one man band.

So far It has been a about a small group pulling together words, photographs and ideas from people from all over the blog and the world to share a belief we can pull to together for the greater good. No-one person had the idea. No-one claims to have all the answers. No-one claims to be the leader. We’ve had too many chiefs and not enough Indians before.

It is about hope not despair, unity not enmity. persuasion not antagonism.

Ours is a blog, not a campaign site. People with strong views will clash, even over the things we have in common.

And we all have one thing in common.

We’re chuffed with the reaction of our fellow fans. Lots of comments about belief have been surfacing and it has renewed optimism that perhaps we can have a say, however small. Clearly, fans do have power. The argument we can do nothing has been blown away forever

The club is in turmoil. It has been said on this blog today that Mike Ashley is the man who has succeeded in making even Newcastle hate football.

But there is no need for us to hate each other.

It isn’t a case of who started it. Which fans are to blame. It comes from widespread disillusionment with our club.

We want it back, we want a club to be proud of. Not one that lies and treats us as nothing more than a nuisance.

The blog should be fun. It would be great to be raving over amazing performances, stellar signings, great goals. A single POINT would be something to get excited about right now. But that’s not how it is, and we must bring our own hope and fun.

We need more people to get involved. It is a blog project the blog needs to breathe life into and help to grow.

There’s a mess, but no Messiah.

It should be an interesting finish to the season if you consider fighting to avoid relegation interesting. We’re on the edge but probably won’t go down. Another fine season Ashley. Well done. A club on the brink of collapse yet again because the owner knows nothing about football. He must see it by now. That this nightmare is just going to repeat itself over and over again. Surely you’ve had enough negative publicity Mike? No? Then lets see how you feel after screwing up the summer and watching the attendance dwindle next season.

Is it possible you’re doing something wrong? Something the supporters don’t like? Give it a brief thought Ashley. You can discuss it on the yacht with your cronies at the next pissup.
