We’ve been very impressed with Siem de Jong lately, and it’s just a huge pity that the Dutchman has been injured for most of the season, but if Siem can come back and play well and get a few goals for us in the last four games of the season – he could still be a hero at Newcastle, by helping to keep the club in the Premier League.
Siem de Jong – scoring last Saturday
And today Siem has talked about being pleased to get the applause from the Newcastle fans as he was warming up last Saturday, after he has had a very frustrating first season on Tyneside.
This is what Siem has said today:
“I was glad to hear that applause from fans when I was warming up along the line,” “It was just a shame my goal wasn’t enough in the game – the important thing is to get points.”
“We have to focus on that, but I have a little bit of an agenda myself, which is to get 100% fit and help the team as much as I can.”
“I’ll try to help the team as much as I can,” “I hope to get some more minutes in. We’ll see how it goes. I don’t think if I’m 90% or 95% that I can help the team from the start.”
“That’s why I need to build up slowly to be ready for the minutes I need to play.” “If I play 90 minutes now, I wouldn’t help the team as much as I could if I waited just another week maybe.”
“We know how important it is on Saturday. We have to try to be at our best to win the game, and not focus too much on the situation, just the game itself.”
Siem came on for the last 15 minutes against Swansea, but still managed to score a goal, but that came too late to make a difference, but he has shown his class, and he can put that ball in the back of the net.
Siem could come on for the second half on Saturday at Leicester, but our defense must be in better form and not let in any soft goals, like we’ve done far too many times this year.
We cannot afford to lose at Leicester, and a win would probably see us safe in the Premier League this season.
That would be a huge relief for most fans, and we would have something to look forward to in the summer.
Comments welcome.

There you go again, taking the extremes, none of us were wanting 20-40M, sorry, expecting 20-40M spent to push for Europe but we would have liked a few new faces to give the fans and team a boost. We might not have found ourselves in the position we are in now had they have shown an interest in the team in January.

The form table is accurate, we are bottom of it taking into account the six games in a row we have lost.

We are not in any situation let alone a relegation battle. Mikey would never do that to us. Much like we were never in one 12/13 either. Our eyes deceive us. Not only us but various pundits even honest john himself, which the club have personally apologised to him for. But no we are not.
Some people just will not have it despite eviden pointing to the contrary.

I myself have said many times I think we are safe. I don’t care how many points we get as long as we are safe.
Predictions have a way of coming back to haunt you.

A few days ago BandB suggested that you arguing the case against the possibility of relegation so strongly was a bit of a comedown from haranguing everyone about your previously equally strong conviction we would have a top half or no worse than mid-table finish.
She said when she suggested a 14th place finish, you had accused her of dissing the players.
You responded with two words
“you lie”
and then went on to later accuse her of “hanging out on the blog for a bit of rough.”
Here we go.

Old third division.
I can’t count this morning either.
My guess for a finish would be 13/14th.
Which I think Pardew would have been happy with at the beginning of the season.

And I was SO careful to quote each of the exact “points” you made, and answer them. You got it all wrong. I don’t love/hate Mike Ashley right now – but I will be amazed if he doesn’t install a new coach with significant new playing talent in the summer, with a fair shot at 4th in the PL.
BTW I think your prediction disses the players. 12th, maybe 11th.

Travelling to Everton last year I was talking to some lad in his mid twenties who claimed we’ll never be relegated under Ashley, this is despite him achieving this. I talked to the same lad on my way to Hull this year, I interupted him as he was telling two Hull fans we were 260M in debt when Ashley came and ‘saved’ us. He repeated his relegation claim. I might chin him if I see him on the way to Forest next year.

Comment #90Talking of reality the bookies have Leicester favourites to win, I think.
Facts and figures are hard to work out.

Comment #94Does anyone know if there’s a list of out of contract managers for next season anywhere?
I’m not trying to jump the gun with our EPL status not guaranteed, I just expect who ever we get we won’t be paying compo, so I’m intrested to have a look see.

Comment #97BoyDone Good- I first read Catch 22 with the issue of the 50th Anniversary Edition which I think was around 2011. It was brilliantly entertaining and provoking. It sold more than 13 million copies globally.
On Clevinger , just remember he was found guilty simply because he was accused. How ironical !!

Infamy
Saturday’s loss to Swansea City meant that Newcastle have been beaten in each of their last seven league outings – a feat not managed since in October 1977, when no less than ten successive games were lost.
Within that 1977 sequence however were three cup ties – one of which was won and the other drawn – meaning we actually only lostfive in a row in all competitions then.
You know where this is going, don’t you…
Defeat to Garry Monk’s team meant that this current side is the first in our history to lose seven consecutive games in all competitions, surpassing a run of six reverses that was set during the 1936/37 season and equaled in both the 1963/64 and 1971/72 campaigns.
