Newcastle are again being linked with PSV and Dutch International play-maker Georgino Wijnaldum, and we were first linked with this player about four years ago, when he was still at Feyenoord.
Georgino Wijnaldum – 24 year-old PSV playmaker
We’ve been linked with this all year, with Graham Carr watching him regularly, and of course Newcastle will need to significantly strengthen the squad in the summer.
As we found out last year, once we are in a slump at the end of one season, it’s difficult not to continue that slump at the start of the following season.
We lost seven of our last eight games last season, and started this season off very badly getting only 4 points from the first seven games.
That led to the Sack Pardew campaign, which was ultimately successful and helped save Crystal Palace for a second successive season from relegation, and they are now safe on 42 points..
However Newcastle are now fighting relegation, and we have lost our last seven Premier League games for the first time ever, so we are not in good shape at all.
Wijnaldum has been in excellent form this season for PSV and has scored 17 goals in a total of 42 games and PSV are 14 points ahead of Ajax and on their way to their 23rd Eredivisie title.
Wijnaldum is still improving and is starting to approach world-class with some of his excellent performances at PSV this season, and is likely to join a big club in the summer.
He joined PSV Eindhoven from Feyenoord back in 2011, and has since played 152 for the club with 55 goals and 24 assists – so the midfielder can score some goals, which is what Newcastle will be looking for this summer.
However, with some top clubs after this top play-maker in the summer transfer window, it’s going to be very difficult for Newcastle to sign him.
