We could have had a chance to survive in the Premier League if the club could have brought in a new coach today, but it looks like Steve McClaren was no mug – and didn’t want to come into the club with three games to go, with everything being in such an awful shambles.
Steve’s no fool.
John Carver – ineffective coach
So John Carver remains to coach the side for the final three games of the season, but John himself has caused a lot of the infighting going on with his players, and when you have caused the problem it is very difficult to be the one to put it right.
The decision to keep Carver was made by Lee Charnley – amazing as it seems – after John’s terrible record at the club – but we suppose Carver and the players now just have to get on with it – and try not to fight amongst themselves.
Here’s John’s record.
[table “33” not found /]Maybe we can get a win at QPR a week on Saturday, because they may have already been relegated by the time we play them.
But it’s difficult to see us getting any points in our final two home games against West Brom and then West Ham on the final day of the season.
We hope there are no demonstrations against Ashley during those games – but we are probably wrong on that one – we just want the players to be given the best chance of winning so we can survive.
Demonstrations against Ashley can take place over the summer in an attempt to get him out of the club, because he’s been completely found out this year, as to what he’s doing at Newcastle and the national press have finally clicked on about what he’s about.
That can only help us to get the guy out of Newcastle – but it would be good to still be a Premier League club at that time.
Hull City play Arsenal tonight and certainly a Gunners win in this game will help us – but we don’t rule out Hull even being able to win this game.
Such are some of the shocks when your PL existence is at on the line – and the players are playing like their lives depended on it.
it’s all about what the other sides do – since we have been on 35 points now since 28th February when we last picked up some points – a win at home to Aston Villa.
That’s just two days over nine weeks ago.
🙁
Such has been he complete collapse of this Newcastle United side under John Carver – and it could well be the greatest collapse ever in the Premier League by the time the end of the season rolls around.
Hope not.
Here’s the current bottom part of the Premier League table – and remember we were in 9th place at the end of the year, and we were only 14 points from the 40 points safety mark, but after another 16 games played we are still 5 points below that 40 points total.
UEFA Champions League Group F
Team | Played | Won | Lost | Drawn | GD | Points |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Dortmund | 6 | 3 | 1 | 2 | 3 | 11 |
PSG | 6 | 2 | 2 | 2 | 1 | 8 |
AC Milan | 6 | 2 | 2 | 2 | -3 | 8 |
Newcastle | 6 | 1 | 3 | 2 | -1 | 5 |
First things first though, and we have to hope Hull City don’t get their third win in a row tonight or even a draw against Arsenal – because that single point would take them above us in the league table.

Comment #81There was a report ( maybe a repeat ) in the Mirror about Cisse being lined up to move to some far flung corner of the globe , probably for silly money so chances are he won’t play again to ” protect the investment”

ok so if we stay up, then what? more of the same, 3rd rate coaching staff, no decent players who will come or give a rats, a joke of a fitness and medical unit and a dispicable sponsor, not to mention no cups or europe etc, etc.. Oh yeah give me more of that.

Theirs is currently 11 better than ours. 8 if it stays the same. Couple more please Wenger.

I only get involved in this “better fan than you” business when some fans slag off other fans for giving Ashley their money. When they argue that it is better to boycott, I argue that might be the case from your perspective.
Let me put it another way with some rhetorical questions. Do you think some fans can be better fans than others? Ignoring Ashley, do you think you’re as good a supporter as the fan who travels home and away? Do you think that a Geordie has a different and added dimension to his support?
I happen to think that fans like yourself are very committed to the club or at least that’s what it appears. You’re not a here today gone tomorrow supporter. You clearly have the club at heart and follow it assiduously. Some geordie fans never go to the games when it would be easy for them to do so. They might wear the shirt but they wouldn’t be able to tell you the result at the weekend. Do I think their a valid supporter? Yes. Do I think you’re a better supporter than them? Yes.
I want to see Huddersfield win the championship. I’ve watched their academy sides numerous times this season and hoped they’d win. I’ve watched the first team and been off my seat more than some of the home support. I follow their results. But I’ll never know what’s it means to be a Huddersfield supporter from Huddersfield. Or to be one of 10, 20, 30, 50 years standing. The more someone has followed the club assiduously, the more weight and respect I give to their opinion when it is a matter of opinion.
I don’t think this is a big issue until some fans start abusing fans whom I respect or until they criticise others’ opinions when the two sides actually come from different perspectives.

Comment #99What I’m having trouble understanding fellas is that the merit payment for finishing 17th is approx £4.5 million and for finishing 8th is approx £14.5 million. Why you would you not want to finish as high as possible in order to get the extra money? Even if they’d purchased or loaned a couple of players to the value of £5 million, fat Mike still would of got £10 million extra for finishing around 8th….and people say he knows how to run a business….

Isn’t there a simpler way than this?
Ibizatoon, I know you have a natural curiosity for understanding people who don’t think the same way as you.
As someone who believes all opinions are equally valid you must feel a temptation to believe Blackley’s talk of differing grades of fan is designed just to wind people up.
That’s all the more reason why you should be open to the possibility that he isn’t doing that, and that he has spent a great deal of time thinking this through.
Instead of answering his question, B&B, why not explain how you work out the criteria for your pecking order for supporters, and list them from say, one to 10? It would be intriguing.
It seems, for example, that you put travelling fans above yourself in the list.
It could actually help to you make your standpoint clearer, and maybe will help shoot down a bit of misunderstanding and misinformation around it.

Comment #107Bit hard to slate Graham Carr. How many times have we had to hear the line not managed to get the signing over the line.. Carr keeps saying he wants to get into the German market yet its always France because players are cheap and wages are cheaper because of they’re tax rules. We will constantly have a poor team with a poor manager as long as mash is in charge. Absolute farce of a club

Comment #110Creating a criteria of fan is a dangerous game. To label someone as a lesser fan for not attending home games when they are incapable of doing so for geographic reasons is beyond the pale. Supporting the football club for Geordies is easier, not harder, in comparison to people who cannot get to SJP for various reasons. Geordies are not martyrs, they are privileged.
To then value the opinion of someone who used to go to games and has since stopped going, but to de-value the opinion of someone who doesn’t live in Newcastle or has since came to live in Newcastle but shares the same ideological reasoning for not going as long term supporters who are now boycotting is showing a biased, selective reasoning in favour of those who are “ethnic Geordies” as opposed to the outsiders who support the club from afar.
Needless to say, this pattern of thought is grossly offensive.

Comment #113I see there are three types of Toon Supporter
1) those that oppose Ashley and will do anything to get rid
2) Those that oppose Ashley but let other people do their bidding
3) Those that are content with the way things are
I see that 53% of those that voted feel they need to get right behind Ashley (sorry NUFC) against WBA. Guess there are more 2 & 3 out there

It’s been a source of ill-feeling. I think Ibizatoon is trying to work through it and understand it. I would also like to see Blackley given the chance and the offer to explain the method he uses. Travelling fans are top…where do armchair fans stand in the list? where to boycotters stand? where do expats stand? and wh?.
It’s a fair chance for him to avoid being misrepresented in future.

Comment #117“McLaren, though, will demand assurances over transfer budgets, player signing and spheres of autonomy before agreeing a switch.”
That is surely true. He will of course have spoken to Pardew, Shearer and Carr, followed the club to some degree under Ashley, everyone knows by now that Ashley has focussed on finances to the detriment of the football, and he is a coach of vast experience by now, and all this makes him a quality candidate. McLaren and fan power can force Ashley to change. I do think it’s possible. I don’t think Ashley has much choice. his card is clearly marked, and whether the glare is dazzling.

Comment #119I cannot for one second agree with b&b, but i think he is trying to say generally is it is easy for someone in say, the USA, to pick a team to support in the Prmeier League and quite obviously these fans are not true fans.they would probably go and support another team if we dropped down the league.geordies, however, no matter what their location, will always support NUFC no matter what as its in their blood. I think b&b just says stuff in the most offensive way possible to wind people up. I mean, its always p**sed me off how many man utd fans are actually from manchester. No doubt man city hav some new fans now too, which I can’t stand. Am i correct B&B? I’ve never personally been a fan of the ‘my grandad was from manchester’ reasoning for supporting manchester, a terrible excuse for being a glory seeker. I think NUFC picked up alot of these types in the 90’s and no,I would not consider them true fans to be honest. Many have probably switched colours by now
