Saturday’s Results Absolutely Crucial For Newcastle

It’s heading towards crunch time for Newcastle and we will know by 5:00 pm on Saturday afternoon how things have gone because all five clubs above Burnley and QPR (who look to be relegated unless they win their last 3 games) will have completed their games.

fab coloccini everton 3-2 at home

Fabricio Coloccini – has stepped up to the plate

Here’s the fixture list for Saturday with the kickoff times.

Everton vs Sunderland 12:45 pm
Aston Villa vs West Ham 3:00 pm
Hull vs Burnley 3:00 pm
Leicester vs Southampton 3:00 pm
Newcastle vs West Brom 3:00 pm

That’s a great chance for Hull City to get 3 points against Burnley at home on Saturday and unless we can beat West Brom on saturday they would go above us in the league table.

That’s a tough game for Leicester but Sunderland beat the Saints at home last weekend, and the Foxes could get their sixth win in seven games on Saturday, for an unbelievable recovery.

Just think if Leicester hadn’t done so well in the last six games we may have been safe by now – but Leicester deserve all the credit – they’ve been great and so have their fans and former Newcastle coach Nigel Pearson.

Here’s the standings in the league today.

PosTeamGamesGDPoints
Crystal Palace38-1242
16Bournemouth38-2242
17Sunderland38-1439
18Newcastle38-2137
19 Norwich38-2834
20Aston Villa38-4917

And it helped that Fab Coloccini has sent an open letter to Newcastle fans – so it looks the captain has finally stepped up to the plate.

On Saturday if Sunderland win and Hull and Leicester at least draw – and we don’t win – then Newcastle will be in 3rd bottom place.

I reckon Ferreyra should start all 3 games and be told if he scores 2 goals minimum, he’ll get a contract seriously, don’t understand why we don’t even give him last 20 minutes or so. Armstrongs came on plenty like that this season and done nothing so why doesn’t chucky get a shot? Oh, wouldn’t be something to do with him not being a geordie, would it?

    roblee,
Based on what? Chucky missed a sitter apparently last night for the reserves. NUFC.com describe it as harder to miss. He isn’t given a chance because he isn’t good enough, and won’t be here next year. Why would you give someone minutes who won’t be here when you can give someone who could have a future at the club experience? For the same reason, Abeid should be in midfield ahead of Raylor and/or Guti.

Nowt to do with being a geordie.

I very much look forward to the attitude on display on the pitch this weekend. Will really show them up if they still have the down and out body language were all so used to.

Could well just be the PR spin to put the fans in the blame for poor results

See Bigirana was just interviewed on SSN and he basically said relegation could be could for us in the long run. He made a comparison with Southampton saying look what happened to them. Of course Southampton got new owners and soared! Fair play to the lad for having some vision, rather tjhan all this relegation panic by some. He obviously hates Ashley n co the same as us, no doubt thats him out of NUFC for good mind after that!

Lilongwe – well we’re desperate for someone to find the net, he hasn’t been tried at top level. Sometimes players rise to the occasion, what would we have to lose?

for me its almost certain that Hull and leicester will win on Saturday. The mackems are a lottery ticket, they did it last year (winning games they had no right to win on paper), can they repeat the trick ? Leicester should survive. Hull have enough fight to give themselves a chance – we are in an awful situation. WBA’s attack should put two past our defence on Saturday. I can’t see us getting 3 goals for a win.

I think i’ve found the transcription of Jabba’s speech to convince Carver to take the job.

Come in here, dear boy, have a cigar.
You’re gonna go far, you’re gonna fly high,
You’re never gonna die, you’re gonna make it if you try; they’re gonna love you.

Well, I’ve always had a deep respect, and I mean that most sincerely.
The team is just fantastic, that is really what I think.
Oh by the way, which one’s Ince?

And did we tell you the name of the game, boy?
We call it Riding the Gravy Train.

    Were just knocked out.
We heard about the sell out.
You gotta get an team out,
You owe it to the people. We’re so happy we can hardly count.

Everybody else is just green, have you seen the finances?
It’s a helluva start, it could be made into a monster
If we all pull together as a team.

And did we tell you the name of the game, boy?
We call it Riding the Gravy Train.

And i wouldn’t have thought playing for the reserves or under 21’s was exaxtly what he had in mind when he signed, must be gutted but yes, this is probably as much his own fault as anyone else’s. I dunno, just bizarre he’s not had a sniff despite our desperation for some goals. Armstrong I’m sorry just doesn’t look good enough for the PL. Might do it for us in the Championship mind, in the same way Chopra did for Cardiff

    roblee,
Well in that case why not give Arma a start, rather than Chucky. Arma has been scoring for the reserves but has only been given bits and pieces here and there. I’d much prefer Arma get a chance and the experience then waste it on someone who won’t be joining in the summer.

Hi all long time since I have posted on the blog forum. Time to start posting again me thinks.

I was thinking today after Collos letter to the fans, would be nice to see him write a simmilar letter to the club owners, asking them for support.

    Dear Ashley,
Please remember we are a family and it would be nice to maby have a backup centerback for me and willo. And also please maby you could put focus on profits aside for one moment and invest a bit in the club.

Oh, and if its not to mutch to ask, maby let us have a go in one of the cups at least.

Lilongwe – see my last post 🙂

I’d justify sticking him on even just for 10 minutes on our inability to score goals. Massive punt I know based on how crap he apparently is, but surely worth a shot. For me if Armstrong played from the start, he’d need Riviere up top with him to knock balls on, but then where would that leave Perez…on the wing? Could work as perez does have pace like!

    roblee,
Perez isn’t a centre forward. He played the majority of his games for Tenerife as a winger or attacking midfielder.

I’d prefer to see movement and football than playing Riviere to lump balls long. It isn’t like Riviere has offered much when playing. At least with Arma you will get effort, and I’d prefer to see effort and commitment in the team then the lacklustre performances from a number of them.

Anyway, signing off for now. Time to get on with some proper work.

im asmuch against ashley as most of the fans are, but we need to get behind the players for the last 3 games, like the leicester fans were like, it should be intimidating, but it has not been like that for so long, protests have a time and place, but its not now, i think colo’s statement is bollox, its to try and get the supporters behind the team, which is what we need

agreed about perez for tenerife he played as a number ten or from the right of a front 3, his movement is excellent, we have so little options for strikers, cisse is out for the season, they arent saying he is, but every time they try and step up his training his knee flairs up

    They are Ashley’s players.
You can’t get behind the team and not be supporting Ashley as well.

    It’s tough love.
We have to cut out a cancer.
    It’s going to hurt.
But it has to be done and done now.

Hate Ashley more (that’s really easy) and join the fight.

Surely playing Perez on wing is obvious thing to do given out lack of decent wingers. Apologies, I wasn’t aware thats where he played for Tenerife. If he could get some decent crosses in for Riviere / Armstrong, perhaps that is the solution for goals

    Hibbit – that makes sense

Beermonkey – that sounds good to me. Carver simply has to try something new as whatever it he’s trying at the moment clearly isn’t working. On MOTD they highlighted how narrow we were. I’ve always liked 4-3-3 and probably been out most successful formation in recent years under Pardew. There was few games where we played that amd I think it was the best football we seen under Pardew. Seem to remember us beating West Brom away with Ben Arfa having one of his best games for us in the orange strip

    Re Chucky

There is an alternative explanation (although a bit far fetched)

I think I’m right in saying that he’s never played a competitive game in the EU, and is only eligible to play because he holds an Italian passport which was issued in Argentina. What if the club discovered, after they brought him in, that there was some “irregularity” with the passport.

    Don’t laugh, it happens:

With the lack of strikers you would think Sammy and / or Obatron would be pushing for a place in training. But it looks distinctly like no one actually looks at the players during training and team tactics and formation are all done on a white board; and get left there!
