In A Do Or Die Saturday And Newcastle Could Die

We just cannot see how Newcastle can get anything out of the game with West Brom on Saturday, given the pathetic performance of our defense at Leicester City, when we allowed all three goals from set-plays – and we will have three of those back four missing on Saturday, due in large part to Mike Williamson and Daryl Janmaat getting themselves sent off in the second half.

When West Brom get their first corner or free kick near the Newcastle penalty on Saturday, the tension will rise appreciably with the Newcastle fans.

And the fact we’ve had so many suspensions of our players this year is a hint the players are not playing for Carver – some seem just to have given up.

john carver last night

John Carver – out of his depth – completely

We should hear more today at Carver’s press conference about the fitness of Paul Dummett,  and even if he’s not fit maybe we will still play him and hope for the best – and take another chance?

It only takes a relegation fighting side to win a game, to bring them right up to Newcastle and last Saturday Sunderland, Leicester  and Aston Villa all gained 3 points on Newcastle by winning their games and Leicester have gained a massive fifteen points on Newcastle in the last six games – by winning five of them.

We suggested we could be in big trouble last Saturday is we lost and Sunderland and Villa both win – which they did.

🙁

Here are the fixtures on Saturday.

Everton vs Sunderland 12:45 pm
Aston Villa vs West Ham 3:00 pm
Hull vs Burnley 3:00 pm
Leicester vs Southampton 3:00 pm
Newcastle vs West Brom 3:00 pm

You wouldn’t expect Sunderland to get anything at Everton but we didn’t expect them to get anything at home to the Saints either – and they do have an experienced manager in Dick Advocaat in charge – and he’s been through this stuff before.

And Leicester – in the form they are in right now have a decent chance now of beating Southampton, who are now slumping a bit, and the Foxes could make it six wins in their last seven games for what would amount to a miraculous recovery.

Hull have a great chance to get their third win in four games by beating Burnley at home – and Burnley are essentially relegated and will be if they don’t beat Hull.

Here are the current standings.

PosTeamGamesGDPoints
Crystal Palace38-1242
16Bournemouth38-2242
17Sunderland38-1439
18Newcastle38-2137
19 Norwich38-2834
20Aston Villa38-4917

So if Newcastle do lose for the 9th straight game it’s going to be very very difficult to turn this thing around with just two games to go – the only chance is that Mike Ashley starts spending some money to persuade a guy like Glenn Hoddle to come in and try to get a win in our final two games.

The fact that all our fans will not be behind the team in the final two home games, will also make it that much more difficult to get a win.

The only chance we have is if the team shock us in one of the last three games and get a win – somehow – maybe the other side scores a couple of own goals for us?

The only way they have shocked us in the last eight games is just how terrible they have played and a number of them don’t seem to care at all.

All they seem to be thinking of is how to get out of this club in the summer.

That’s how bad it is at Newcastle United right now.

Hello again readers of Ed’s blog,

Are the boycotts and protests a good thing or a bad thing?

There’s a view that the protests should now stop and we should get behind the team as it battles relegation.
That’s the appeal of an open letter attributed to Captain Colo.

And there is a view that the protests have been so successful that the club is desperate to stop them, hoping they can claim to have proved once and for all that fan protests don’t work. Therefore the protests against Mike Ashley’s ownership and stewardship of the club should continue.

It’s a hot topic. Hot enough that HWTF thinks it deserves a blog poll on the issue.
The call has generated a lot of responses so far, some enthusiastic, and others with reservations.

We’re asking you to post the following in a single box:

    “Give us a poll Ed”

We want a poll. Do you think the protests should stop? Yes or No.

Let’s hear what the fans think.
We want to conclude this with a Poll Petition to Ed this evening. Please support us.

    Howay the fans.

    Macas

    Frpm the previous thread.

I tend to gloss over the crap he spouts because he craves attention and it is so evident. Furthermore, he is the master of his way or the highway which continually shows him up to be unable to debate whilst seeking attention by being controversial.

I find him to be a subject of comedy, never to be taken seriously.

    Zero…To gauge the blogs opinion.

Ed seems to buy in to the clubs theory that it’s the fans that have caused this mess and are the ones who can fix it.

I disagree and am interested to know what others on the blog think. It would appear I’m not the only one.

No need for a poll… The Chronicle already has a poll up, just go there to vote and see what the fans want….
    http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/newcastle-fans-not-heeding-calls-9200342?

FYI – 58% say ‘Back the team to the hilt’, 28% say ‘Continue boycott’, 12% ‘Protest against the regime [in the stadium], 2% ‘Business as usual’

And I was one of those who said ‘Back the team to the hilt’

Hahahaha – Carver thinks he’s the best coach in the PL, wouldn’t take him as a volunteer as a Sunday League coach. To think the fans are derided as deluded. There’s not a word or phrase strong enough for JC, mentally ill coming the closest.

Start your own blog if you can’t stop harassing Ed. I would suggest you take advice from the blog’s leading resident counsel. Prof will have a view on whether your constant harassment of Ed about this poll amounts to an offence under the Harassment Act and whether you can be served with an official notice. Ask once. Ask a second time. But then let it rest, fella. Go and cast your vote in the big one.

@ John Tudor – If you think the Chronicle has an agenda, you clearly didn’t read the article then!

The article’s states: “It’s at moments like this that fans hold the aces, why would we hand them back to Mike Ashley so he can collect the pot again?”

    Ibiza,

You know the answer to that question, especially when concerning posters on this blog…

Personally I think the 34minute protest/display is good enough, all we need to do is keep it on the tip[ of the pundits tongues.

As for Ashleyout…. well id rather have the devil I know than the one I don’t… it would be better for Ashley to take heed and invest rather than seeking a new owner.

Zero….I’d never want to presume to know what the whole blog think one way or another.

Ed made quite a claim yesterday. Which he’s entitled to do. I am doing nothing more than giving the blog, his blog, a chance to respond. He isn’t.

This isn’t an attack on Ed. He likes to have a poll, some of us would like to see a poll on this issue. If he doesn’t want to rock the boat, then he shouldn’t. He has though.

I’ve always been and will continue to be extremely grateful for this blog and Eds efforts. Armchair fan capital!

Just seen a repeat on Sky of wen we got beat 5-0 off Chelski a few seasons ago.
Close up of Carver sitting next to SBR.
Carver looked like a rabbit in the headlights then and body language all hunched up. Hardly inspiring. Nothing has changed.
