John Carver has just announced his team for the vital match this afternoon against West Brom at home, and another defeat which would be our 9th in a row could really set us up for the drop in a couple of weeks.
The good news is that Paul Dummett has been passed fit and goes over to center-back alongside captain Fabricio Coloccini, and both Papiss Cisse and Rolando Aarons are on the bench.
Newcastle (4-3-3): Tim Krul; Vurnon Anita, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Paul Dummett, Jonas Gutierrez; Moussa Sissoko, Ryan Taylor, Jack Colback; Ayoze Perez, Emmanuel Riviere, Remy Cabella
Substitutes: Freddie Woodman, Lubomir Satka, Mehdi Abeid, Sammy Ameobi, Rolando Aarons, Yoan Gouffran, Papiss Cisse
West Brom (4-5-1): Boaz Myhill; Craig Dawson, Gareth McAuley, Jonas Olsson, Joleon Lescott; Craig Gardner, Darren Fletcher (c), Claudio Yacob, Youssouf Mulumbu, Chris Brunt; Victor Anichebe
Substitutes: Jack Rose, Andre Wisdom, Chris Baird, James Morrison, Callum McManaman, Saido Berahino, Brown Ideye
Referee: Chris Foy (Merseyside)
Newcastle will play in a 4-3-3 formation with Cabella, Riviere and Cabella being the front three.
Vurnon Anita comes in at right back and Jonas Gutierrez has been moved to left back, and Ryan Taylor stays in midfield.
There are two changes in the back line after Janmaat and Williamson are both suspended and miss this game.
Moussa Sissoko and Jack Colback make up the middle three, and let’s hope both these players are on form today in what is almost a must win game if we are to stay up this season.
This is what Papiss Cisse has said today:
“It has been very hard during the seven games I have been out,” “I have watched every match and it is not an easy time for the fans, the players or the staff.”
“There are three games left and we have to forget about everything that has happened before and just focus ahead. We have to play game by game and at 200.% That starts against West Brom.”
“Everyone knows we need points. We have to work hard to get them and we will.” “This team is not about the players – this team is about the fans.”
“The fans are angry, and that is normal in a situation like this because no-one wants to see their team lose every game for a long time.”
“But we need them to come and support the team on Saturday. They need to show us they are with us, that we are together and hopefully we can win the game for them.”
“I know that 100% of the players need the fans. We need them more than ever – we need their help to stay in this division.”
“I know it is not easy at the moment but I say to them ‘come and do this together’.”
We really need to the win today but only one in five fans think we can do that.
Howay The Lads!!
