52 year-old Real Sociedad manager David Moyes has been heavily linked with both West Ham and Newcastle during the last week – and there have been many stories in the papers about him leaving the Spanish club this summer.
A very relaxed looking David Moyes in Spain
But that’s what it all appears to be – paper talk – with no truth in the stories at all – well that’s according to the man himself.
This is some of what he told the Guardian today:
“I think it was a brave decision to move to Spain” “I turned down Premier League jobs; I didn’t think they were right. I would never have left Everton if it hadn’t been Manchester United.”
“I was supposed to be there six years and you think United give managers time. I’d worked incredibly hard to get to the top and it was taken away from me very quickly.”
“I didn’t want the disappointment to last. I had to take a step back and climb up again. I wanted somewhere I’d be allowed to work, where I could enjoy football again.”
“I want new analysts. We have a chief scout; I would like another. I’d like scouts in different countries,” “I’ve started to put the recruitment process in place and, in time, that will help.”
“The TV money changes soon and I’d like us to be ready so that if we do have money to spend we have a process in place. The President’s in favor of that and so is the Sporting Director.”
“There’s always speculation but I’m here to do the job,” “I’m going to be here. I want to try to get everything in place so we can be at our best for the start of next season.”
“I don’t think we need masses and masses but there are improvements I’d like to make, things I want to change. Small things that will help.”
“If they can do that, this place really would be perfect.” “I’ll be here,” “I’m not going anywhere.”
Now those words don’t suggest David is leaving Spain anytime soon does it.
It also shows how good a manager David is – and yes – he would have been perfect for us – but it’s not going to happen in the summer .
David’s an honest guy and went through hell and high water at Manchester United, but he is now quickly getting back his reputation as a top coach in football.
Good for him, and we’re sure he’s going to be a better manager because of that experience, and he’s so right when he says his success was quickly taken away at Manchester.
Looks to us that David Moyes is building at Real Sociedad for future success, and that’s so good to see.
David’s located in San Sebastian – a beautiful location in northern Spain just south of the French border – and the rumor is they have better weather than either Manchester or Liverpool.

When you see it expressed like that, it reminds you that every single boycott is a horrible sacrifice and a sickening shame, and not the actions of a troublemaker or a fair-weather fan.

Comment #83“Rarely is it thought necessary for a club captain, in this case centre-back Fabricio Coloccini, to issue a letter apologising for the way the team have been playing, pleading with fans to unite behind them for the last three matches.
“I think someone at the top must have had a brainwave and whistled up the club captain to do it, and probably wrote it for him.”

Comment #86Maybe its for the best if we go down, we definitely can’t compete in the premier league.
MA got everyone to pack SJP for the remaining games through a little brainwave of getting Collo to write a dodgy f..ing letter.
Mash doesn’t deserve the prem money, along with the staff and the flops that just turn up every weekend.

Comment #88Barton…It’s such a shame that Ashley wouldn’t listen to the fans warnings. This has been building for some time, fans have been more than patient and tried to have belief.
He has completely sucked it out of some. There is nothing left to give. There is no belief.
There always was, even in bad times, we have no soul, no identity.
I wish it wasn’t so, but respect for taking a stand. The sooner we all do, the sooner we have a chance to be rid of him.

Comment #104Today, a bunch of lads on average wages who don’t make a living from football will play at Wembley Stadium.
They have earned the right to this magical day for themselves and their followers by hard-work, pride in themselves and in the pursuit of glory.
They did so playing in front of a few hundred people.
Newcastle United players…if these amateurs can do it out of pride in themselves and their town, love of football and their club, so can you.
Three points today please. And if not for love or pride, then because it is your job. One you are being paid millions of pounds for doing.

Comment #107Just reading S.Taylors recent offering again.
“But who’s going to want you if we get relegated? You’re going to be here. Pull your finger out. We’re all in it together. If we weren’t, we’d crumble.”
They have been crumbling. Maybe simply telling players to perform or they wont get their dream move isn’t actually enough motivation?

“The time for talking is over. Actions speak louder than words and we have to start delivering on the pitch. Get behind the team this afternoon and roar us on to three huge points”
Everything with this club is one way, how about the players/coaches/chairman/owner give us something to cheer about?

Comment #109In the words of a song “what a difference a day make” 24 little hours.
2009
Following Kevin Keegan’s managerial departure, and the subsequent hiring of none other than the football dinosaur Joe Kinnear. The feeling around the club dropped to a new low. With relegation on the horizon, and Kinnear removed from his post, an inexperienced Alan Shearer swooped in to try and save the club. As Newcastle headed towards what seemingly was their ‘fate’ a number of high profile protests ensued that prompted Mike Ashley to ‘put the club up for sale’, or at least publicly, to take the heat of his regime.
During this period, Derek Llambias was often the not-so-trustworthy club spokesperson. The full details of this episode, or myth – as we like to call it, can be explored here. However, suffice to say the club did not get sold by Ashley, despite many an indication from Llambias that it was on the verge. 3 or 4 interested parties going through the books, the asking price had allegedly been met by at least 2 parties. At the end of this charade, this was the message Derek Llambias had for the fans (28 October 2009):
“Mike decided that the best course of action, one that would put the welfare of the club at the top of the agenda, would be to remove the club from the market. His commitment is unwavering and the additional large sums of money he has recently pumped into the club amply demonstrate that.
“I would urge all supporters of this truly great football club to come together, get behind the team and, whatever grievances you may or may not have, put them to one side for the benefit of seeing Newcastle United regain their position in the elite of English football. Mike and myself are here to do our absolute best for Newcastle United and with you on board, we fervently believe we can deliver a successful football club for you to take pride and joy in.”

Comment #110I think we can take for granted that the “letter”,player quotes, interviews ect of late have Keith Bishops grubby finger prints all over them, tbh am insulted that they even have the nerve to ask for the fans to get behind them, thats one thing they dont need to ask for,it has a city behind it,i’d like to know wat there excuses are for the performances over the last few seasons, and the soul being ripped out the club!

Comment #116What have we learned from the false promises of 2009?
well not a lot we hired a man with a dodgy heart who then shock horror quit over heart problems, then we gave the job to the head coach, then dropped the job of taking the flak to one of our own too little too late,
2015?
we give the stand in job to a coach that failed at his 4 previous jobs and badly, now what did they think would happen, 5th time lucky at best.

Comment #117In response to a thread a few back.
I wanted Pardew gone as much as the next man but I think Freddy Shepherd criticism of him is way off.
I genuinely think Pardew was trying his best. He had little control over transfers and I think to a certain degree since he has left its been clear that maybe he was doing the best he could with what he had to work with. His best may not have been good enough but I don’t think you can blame him for the second half of the season. That should lie with you know who
