I Thought The Fans Were Fantastic – That’s Not Lip Service

John Carver got his first point in nine games yesterday so John and the Newcastle fans were really pleased we have broken that terrible eight game losing streak but just like last week Sunderland, Leicester and Aston Villa all won and they are now all above Newcastle having gained 5 points on the Magpies in just two games.

John Carver yesterday

The crowd was under 48,000 yesterday which is not good for Newcastle, but they saw the lads giving 100% and supported them until the end – and it;’s just am pity we couldn’t get a goal in the second half to win the game.

We may still have to win one of our last two games to stay up – and here is the current positions at the bottom of the league table.

PosTeamGamesGDPoints
Crystal Palace38-1242
16Bournemouth38-2242
17Sunderland38-1439
18Newcastle38-2137
19 Norwich38-2834
20Aston Villa38-4917

John Carver was a relived man after the game yesterday – but weren’t we all?

Here’s some of what he said:

“We went 1-0 down from another set-piece but showed some character. We didn’t show that last week at Leicester and it was good to see.”

“The brilliant thing for me was that it was like being in a football stadium again. Everybody was so focused on the football, including me.”

“I thought the fans were fantastic, and that’s not me playing lip service, that’s from the heart.”

We play QPR next week at Loftus Road and they may already be relegated by then – and we probably need a win to make us safe.

Don’t think Colback had that good a game , I don’t rate him that highly – he holds onto the ball too long and slows down play allowing opposing team to get into position. 1000 times I shouted pass it when he received the ball yesterday – he’s not the only one guilty of this but he’s the worst offender – saying that I’m not sure Raylor made one successful pass yesterday
Better team performance although WBA seemed to have flip flops on and just defended in numbers thinking they could catch us on the break or at a set piece ( which they obviously did)
Nice to hear a bit of noise at SJP again

The whole teams guilty of slow play, there’s no urgency anywhere.
Not in the passing the running foward or getting back.

JC says he’d be brill with the right tools, he must mean a assistant because our basics are shocking.

To all put Carver in charge even back in january baffles me. I can only think/hope it’s because their preferred option isn’t available till the summer?
Carvers record is worse than just newcastle. We lost 6 out of 7 also when he stepped in for pardews ban. Fairly sure he lost 4 out of 5 at leeds as caretaker?
Carver in the MLS was something out of a ben stiller script! Biggest budget in the league, ended with a 30% win record in a league at the time where the better teams rarely lose! His tactics were alien. Once played 3 target strikers and hoofed at every opportunity. Constantly changed team and formation! His interviews were the best! More delusional than at the moment! Full of paranoia, outlandish claims etc he was the embarrassment of American sports which is an achievement considering the celebrate over the top characters.
With this in Mind, ive no idea how charnley thought hed be a success! Jespers right, hes a very expensive clerical error! The error being he should have been sent a p45 not a managers contract

His subs and selection where bonk yesterday to. Why play Raylor and leave Abeid on the bench. Why bring Sammy on for 10 with Aaron’s on the bench.

    He’s bonk is carver

Hate to be a party pooper but since when was a home drawn against a terrible west brom side a good result?
West brom were on the beach too. People getting fooled because we had a lot of possession but thats how west Brom play!! Technically we didn’t create one clear chance as the goal we scored was a half chance at best!
West brom had 3 very clear chances in comparison. I saw a little bit more heart in us fair enough but west brom didn’t press at all which made us look a better team than we were!
Would drop sissoko to be honest! Strolled around yesterday as if he didn’t care!
Taylor isn’t good enough and his set pieces are woeful but at least the effort is there! Same with anita and jonas!

Optimistic Prime i think if that reserves game is anything to guy by Aarons is far from match ready! Doubt he’ll play next week either!
Not playing Abeid over Taylor is criminal if they are releasing him in the summer! Carver doesn’t look like he trusts young players at all!
Least it looks like gouffran is done

IF w stay up are we just delaying the inevitible.?
Does anyone think that Ashley will change how he runs the club and how he deals in the transfer market?
    Of course not.
I would,nt be surprised if he gives Carver a yrs contract just for keeping us up. at least he,s got another 70M in his back pocket,of which Carver will see none of it.
Half the teams will leave in the summer, including some of our best players,so what will we be left with.
We will bring in cheap replacements and i think our luck has ran out in finding quality at a cut price.
The writing is on the wall im afraid chaps.
