Former Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp thinks it’s between Newcastle and Hull City as to the third club to take the drop with QPR and Burnley – and those clubs are in 3rd bottom and 4th bottom places respectably after Saturday’s games.
Newcastle got their first point in nine games at home to West Brom on saturday – but we still dropped two places in the league table as Sunderland and Leicester both went above us with wins – something we cannot seem to get these days.
Glenn Hoddle and Harry Redknapp while at QPR
But it seems that Harry Redknapp – who turned down the Newcastle job in January of 2008 after first accepting the position after Sam Allardyce had been fired – thinks Newcastle will just about survive.
This is what Harry said to today while speaking on talkSPORT:
“Can Hull City win a game out of those two games? They couldn’t beat Burnley at the weekend.” “I’m sure Sam would like to go back to St James’ Park and get a result, having been there, but I still have to favor Newcastle.”
“Hull might pick up a point at Tottenham and they have got a record of beating the big clubs at Hull so it’s not impossible. Hull’s home game against Manchester United is the last game of the season.”
“It’s a massive game and it’s not impossible for them to pull it off and it’s going to be an exciting last day for sure.”
We really hope Newcastle can survive, and if we do then there is a massive rebuilding job to do this summer, but it will be so difficult to attract good players and we could be in for another rough season next term – when we are likely to be relegation candidates unless we can have a really good summer and get some decent players in.
We also need to get a very good coach in but our expectations of that are not high – and it’s unlikely the coach Newcastle will appoint will be any better than Alan Pardew.
Why would a decent coach want to join Newcastle – who are the worst run club in the league this season – that’s why we are 4th bottom with two games to go, after being 9th top at the beginning of the year and just 14 points from safety and 40 points with 19 games to play – when Alan Pardew left us.
If we go down forget it – it will be another tragedy for Newcastle United under the frugal and senseless ownership of Mike Ashley.
Mike has simply destroyed the club and my father must be turning in his grave.

Comment #42I think relegation would be a good thing for the following reasons.
1. Ashley will not be getting the vast TV money if we are in the fizzy pop league.
2. His tat shop (FREE) advertising will get a lot less TV exposure.
3. His brands along with Newcastle will devalue in the lower leagues.
The Premiership offers nothing to the supporters, rubbish team, rubbish coaching staff, rubbish board and rubbish owner. in the fizzy pop we at least have a chance to win a game of football.
But is Ashley cannot have his cake and eat it (premiership money and advertising etc.) he may just sell up.
I may be a bit selfish here but I would take relegation just to put the breaks on Ashley and his tat shop advertising.

I’m not to sure that he enjoys being in the spotlight facing criticism, most of the flak he’s received in the past has been in business news and low profile, a different matter when the red tops start on him and everywhere he goes people are saying that’s that Mike Ashley sh1t.

It was exactly that. A compliment. They and Southampton have the capabilities to push on. We do not.
Can’t see how that was a put down, or was viewed that way unless of course the sole intention was to get a rise by thinking such.
Funnily enough that’s the remit of a WUM.
Final confirmation for any that were unsure.
I don’t bother engaging with it.

JJ Rousseau (18th century Genevan philosopher and all round polymath) once said ‘Slaves lose everything in their chains, even the desire to be free of them.’
For well over 40 years this club’s supporters have subsisted on a diet of hope, failure, big name signings, disappointment, promised big names, failure, more promises, occasional minor triumphs (like winning promotion or losing finals), new owners, more promises…
And now in local folklore the eternal ‘chicken and egg’ conundrum has been replaced by the ‘Ashley and Pardew’ conundrum. Is it Ashleys’s fault for appointing and maintaining such ineptitude – or is it simply Pardew’s fault for being inept…?
Or are we all missing something, because as long as Ashley is here there will another Pardew. And as long is there’s another Pardew this whole cycle of failure will keep repeating and fans will chew each other to bits on blogs in the utter frustration of it all. They have forgotten how to do anything else.

Comment #55If we are to be safe this season, then I hope its all done by next weekend – We win at QPR and Hull lose
Then we can go for an all out boycott/protest in the last home game against West Ham without any “guilt”
And on the topic of Swansea/Southampton, these teams are less dependent on players and more on the style. Players with similar tendencies come in and fit in this style. If good players come in they can reach the heights of 5th-7th. If the players bought are not that good its 8th-12th.
We on the other hand depend on players like Cabaye, Ba etc. – Our style lasts for a year until players are sold and then we need to come up with a new one. That is perhaps why we see no progress.

If you go back in 2 year segments, you will find the same things being said. As each 2 years pass, less people argue with it. I was still arguing with it then mind.

Comment #66cestriasteve…I am not really hoping for relegation – nit many are I think, cause are under Ashley are that we won’t get back up and he won’t sell!
It would be sad times if we had to be relegated, but lets face it Ashley is not going to lists to us and next season will probably be the same struggle and the same mediocre football at best.
Maybe relegation wouldn’t be such a bad thing…as long as we keep pressure on Ashley and any opportunist coming here taking advantage of the situation!

Comment #67The only way to get Ashley out is to stigmatize his brand make it so embarrassing for anyone to enter his shops, make it so people look around so no one sees them enter, that’s the point i was making about the ugly people shop at sports direct, and tramps shopping with him, the reason i know about the ugly people jibe was when Renault released the Megan, i sent them an email saying they were making ugly cars and said that they should use the slogan Renault make ugly cars ugly people buy Renault, it so incensed them they threatened me with court action if i carried on doing it, i did and they did not take action, but it bothered them. that’s the way to attack Ashley remind people they are buying crap dispatches proved that, you just have to be old enough to remember Woolworth’s they got so good at telling us about the wonder of woolies, and how cheap they were they devalued the brand to such an extent people became embarrassed to enter their stores and they went bust, i remember when i had my own business attending seminars that drummed it into you never to use the words cheap as cheap = tacky, and use the term good value, or excellent value for money. we need to get it out that his shops sell cheap tack sub standard goods made by child exploitation. embarrass people going into his shops keep it up he will sell.
