Davide Moyes has already said he is not leaving Real Sociedad in the summer for any club, including Newcastle United, but it seems that those in the betting game may not believe everything that is said – and David is odd on favorite – 8/11 on BetVictor and 4/5 on bwin – to get the Newcastle job in the summer.
David Moyes – relaxed in northern Spain
Maybe they know something that the rest of us don’t, and it would be simply terrific if David did join Newcastle this summer, because there’s little doubt he’s an excellent coach.
But he was interviewed in the Guardian recently and it was a long interview, and the Scot talked about his plans for Real Sociedad – and he also looked in great shape and extremely relaxed.
That’s not what he looked like in his final weeks at Manchester United – which was a bit of a nightmare experience for the former Everton manager, but he’s quickly landed on his feet in San Sebastian.
Steve McClaren is still second favorite even though he has said he doesn’t want the job, and the next in line in the betting are Paul Clement and former Swansea boss Michael Laudrup.
There’s no doubt there are some (very) good coaches available this summer, and maybe once we are safe in the Premier League – hopefully this Saturday – then Newcastle will make a move to bring in a new top head coach.
That’s just the first step Mike Ashley will have to make if he is going to get the fans back on his side – but that may be an impossible task after what he’s done this year.
He would be good if he signed David Moyes and then brought in a number of top players this summer – but that to us seems like a fairly remote possibility right now.
What do you think?
Comments welcome.

Comment #1OK, Here is some genuine news – Penfold is actually in Spain, today, allegedly talking to a Coach. I have no idea which one or where, but he is in Spain.

beermonkey…The issue is not that there aren’t buyers, but Ashley doesn’t want one.
Not for the SD advertising of course. No sir, that means nothing, it’s worth next to nothing. He does it for his love of the club and the glory of it all.

Comment #8Ibiza – Yes, I realise that, Beer, from a member of NUFC Staff – I gain nothing from this whatsoever – other than risk being ridiculed on here!!
When I heard the info, my first question was Double Decker or Single!!
My second comment was – “Any Coach will take one look at Penfold’s business card and piss himself laughing!!!
He is however in Spain!!

Comment #9beermonkey…Doing alright, things are picking up over here, plus there is a current waiting game as far as NUFC are concerned it would seem. How about you?
It certainly has been mentioned on here. To death 🙂 I do wonder what it is that people are actually recommending we do. Just sit and wait and hope that someone fancies paying over the odds when Ashley has absolutely no reason to want to sell?
He needs to be challenged.

Comment #10David Moyes was manager of Everton between 2002 and 2013 and their finishing league positions under him were
15th (2002)
7th
17th
4th
11th
6th
5th and league cup semi final
5th and FA cup runner up
8th
7th
7th and FAcup semi final
6th (2013)
good progression with limited finances.

Comment #14Graeme…Could be talking to a coach – you would hope he was. Actually, you’d hope Penfold would have been fired with someone competent talking to new coaches, but hey. He could be in Spain for any reason really and tell anyone what they like. Seeing is believing, faith has been used up.
Thanks for sharing though.

Comment #15Ibiza – there is no faith though mate. They have used and abused any faith many years ago.
The ONLY emotion Ashley, Penfold, Carver generate is one of pure contempt.
I wouldn’t piss down his throat if his lungs were on fire. In fact, they are beneath contempt!!

Comment #16Sorry for being negative about it, I’ll go soon 🙂
Does it really matter what manager we have in?
Until the aims and desires of this club change, what is it for?
Some people believe this is the summer. We now have money in the account (we had more last summer, spent nothing in January, just sold players) and the club are in a position to do something now, something they weren’t able to do before.
Fine. Quite sensible. Why, amongst all this unrest, fans leaving, fans spirits crushed, would the club not issue a statement of intent. Something they can’t wriggle on. Something they could genuinely go for.
It’s not like they don’t hire PR. Just too busy covering up.

Would you trust the arseholes at NUFC? There is no way I would.

Comment #27When David Moyes was announced as manager of Man U there were few who had any complaints and believe me I’d have heard as there are thousand of Man U fans here in Malta. The general feeling was that he was a perfect fit. A Scotsman like Fergie who was waiting in the wings to take over the dynasty. It went wrong simply because the shoes were simply too big to fill. The timing was simply not in his favour however that doesn’t make him a bad manager and I for one would love him to take over Newcastle.

MA has always been very secretive, with SD and even more so with Newcastle.
But money or no money, there’s a tight regime at the club, so I think there’s going to be a lot of disappointed fans even if we stay up.
He has absolutely no idea how to run a football club, just a business.

Comment #31Jane, would we at the toon be happy with the finishing positions that Moyes achieved at Everton, i can tell you in my experience by thr third year we would all be moaning about the fact we are standing still, i can remember standing in a pub in the toon when Sir Bobby was in charge and a group 0of lads were saying how fed up they were with the great man, lost the dressing room bla bla bla!!! i honestly believe that the dye has been cast for the fella in charge and even after any good run we have, any slip ups will be eaten alive, and to be fair he has cause to much termoil himself and deserves all the flack he is getting, certainly at the moment for sure.
