Whether we are relegated or not this season, there will be a huge clear-out of players in the summer, and Newcastle are already active in trying to sign up players to arrive in early summer – but those plans will change drastically is we do take the drop – because most of the players we are after will not sign on if we become a second division club.
Sylvain Marveaux – Newcastle United winger
Sylvain Marveaux was signed in the summer of 2011 when we snatched him from under the noses of Liverpool on a free transfer from Rennes, and after having a fairly bright start to his career, he wasn’t given many opportunities at the club.
That resulted in him being sent out on a season long loan deal to Guingamp last summer, and he has played 23 times with two goals for the French club so far, and when he comes back in pre-season he will have one more year of his five year contract left.
PSG recently played Guingamp and hammered them 6-0 and after the game Sylvain was seen talking to former midfielder Yohan Cabaye and he was quoted as saying this:
“I miss Newcastle.” “It was good, but you know I was blacklisted.”
Some fans would agree that the 29 year-old was frozen out under Alan Pardew – and he didn’t seem to get too many chances.
But, as expected, John Carver has denied Sylvain was blacklisted on Tyneside – and this is what John has said about the comment:
“He had the same chance as everyone else this pre-season,” “Obertan in pre-season was on fire because he pushed his head above the water and kicked on.”
“If it wasn’t for that injury which set him back. He took his opportunity in pre-season.”
Carver is making the point that Obertan showed some good character in pre-season, and stuck in and until he was injured on November 1st against Liverpool, he was one of Newcastle’s best players early in the season.
We don’t expect Sylvain to be retained this summer, and he could either be sent out on loan again, or more likely sold to Guingamp for a fee.
Newcastle will try to bring in a number of new players to significantly strengthen what has been a very weak squad this season.
And we could still be relegated because of the lack of foresight and common sense shown by those running the club from the top – especially during the January transfer window when we should have strengthened a paper-thin squad.
Comments welcome.

Comment #41Season ticket sales are small potatoes? Ha ha really? What business school did you go to? The….toilet…store?
Why sell season tickets hmm let me see they discount the ticket prices across the whole season so you will commit to money up front or guaranteed monthly input by direct debit…wait – could that have something to do with it? Assured cash flow to the tune of millions for the upcoming financial year? Small potatoes ha ha and yes ha ha.

Comment #43I am really worried we will get the “John Carver will be given the chance to prove himself with a fit squad and some new signings seeing as the club let him down last season” chat rather than doing the right thing and getting a proper manager

You’re right in that that’s the tack Carver’s been taking.
However, Charnley’d be a fool to accept the line that mismanagement has been the cause of the Club’s recent situation. It’d put his head on the block – unless of course Ashley’s dictated the policy.
And if Carver starts to criticise players bought through Carr, then Carr’ll go off about the restrictions placed on buying and whether his judgements are being called into question.
If Ashley buys Carver’s line that he’s the victim of circumstances, then he’s dafter than I thought – after all, Carver did say he was happy with the squad.
It’s a mess

On the eve of the away match with QPR, the Ashley Out campaign organisers have released a statement ahead of the game.
The people behind AshleyOut.com are asking travelling fans to support the latest 34th minute protest and tp make their voices heard.
AshleyOut.com Statement
Queens Park Rangers (a) protest announcement
Two months ago the idea of relegation was nothing but a whisper from the shadows of St James’ Park. Now it is as harsh a reality as the poison that runs through the veins of Mike Ashley’s Newcastle United.
The club would have us ask “How can we change this as fans?”. Given the deathly silent atmospheres at St James’ Park and the apathy that reigns there is only one answer. Turn up the heat.
Whether you choose to provide vocal and visual support until this battle is over, or alternatively make the atmosphere as poisonous as possible for the owner, you must make your voice heard.
At Loftus Road on Saturday we will continue to distribute red card flyers for the 34th minute protest where you can join us in a visual and audible protest against Mike Ashley’s ownership of our club.
We will be here after relegation and we will be here if we stay up. Our end goal is to remove Mike Ashley and give this club back to its rightful owners, the fans – even if that is only spiritually, under a new owner, with ambition to be the best and reconnect the club with the city and its fans. To have pride and passion in our club once again.
Plans are being prepared to have a major impact at the final game of the season against West Ham and we will announce them in due course following the game against Queens Park Rangers.
We hereby make a call to all Newcastle United supporters, and indeed all football supporters, to make Ashley aware that he is no longer wanted or welcomed at our club or in our city. His absence has been duly noted from the past few games at a time when other club representatives have called for unity and support.
This Newcastle United is not OUR Newcastle United.

Yes, if relegation materialises we must keep it going down through the championship, on to whatever awaits the Toon because he is never going to alter his course. Even if he did manage to bundle us back up again in 1-2 years which is unlikely he would revert to the same strategy of luke warm survival. Its them or us, or them AND us in my view if thats what it takes cos the club will never be made worth watching / following until after he is gone. I’d rather go under with the club than carry this parasite around.

Comment #55I have to say, while Mitrovic looks a decent lad, it’s difficult to judge without seeing his hold up and off the ball play.
One thing I have noticed, and something that made Perez’s signing a surprise to me is that Newcastle always seem to scout the same type of striker- traditional no 9.
I think it’s good to have that sort of striker about but I think you need more options that the target man.
Charlie Austin is no doubt a decent striker but he is almost identical to Mitrovic. These type of strikers can be great if they can do things off the ball – like Giroud and Benteke but if they can’t you end up with a team that reverts to hoofball.
NOT TO MENTION – as others have. It’s pointless without a good Head Coach and backroom team to drill the team properly.
It also concerns me that we are not getting linked with any DMs as I feel this is something we need as bad as a CB and Striker. We have no-one that can dominate a game, protect the back four and win the ball like Tiote used to.
Colback needs a DM to play with him to allow Colback to push the team forward and launch attacks. He is being stifled by the lack of a DM or a consistent playmaker/AM in front of him to work with.

Comment #56Lee Charnley’s role is as lightning rod. human shield and bearer a bad tidings for Ashley.
His job is to enforce Ashley’s will among playing and none-playing staff at the club.
There is no-one who has any dealings with the club who believes Lee Charnley makes any policy. The idea is patently ludicrous.
It is a belief that exists only among a section of fans who cling to the hope Ashley is about to transform from his eight year ugly bug period into a beautiful football-loving butterfly.
If you believe what makes you a superior fan is to sit silently and uncomplainingly as the world’s 19th richest club faces a second relegation battle in two years, you are likely to lay the blame on Charnley.
People don’t still go because they support Ashley. It’s the other way round.
They support Ashley to justify the fact they still want to go.

Comment #57Rafa to the mackems might be a pipe dream just as much for them as it is for us.
He wants to return to the PL and there arent many opportunities other than us, the mackems and possibly WHU.
If Villa get taken over, he might end up there but it would be harsh on Sherwood if that happened.
I dont see Liverpool getting rid of Rogers either.

Comment #58How things change in a few short weeks. As the possibility of relegation has loomed larger, the optimism of a movement that swelled before the Spurs match has turned to doom and gloom. I get it. We are all being sucked into the pits by the policies of the Fat Controller. I guess we all feel a little helpless because of our anxiety and the guilt we might feel if we don’t stand behind the side and cheer them on to….success?
Of course this is exactly what Ashley wants. He is responsible for this mess. It is not the fans and it never will be. We just want a club we are proud to stand behind. Keep up the pressure, in whatever form you wish. He needs to go.

Comment #65Two possible explanations regarding Mitrovic next year:
if we get dropped, the response is: ” we went for it, really wanted to bring in top level talent, but circumstances wouldnt allow us”
If we stay up the response is: ” we went for it, really wanted to bring in top level talent, but circumstances wouldnt allow us”
Same BS story, w/ same BS result. NUFC unfortunately do not bring in top level talent any more.

Another week has passed, yet the situation at NUFC still remains unclear. The feedback from the club remains the same, saying they’ve learned lessons and these will be sorted come the summer. In the meantime, it’s left to the fans to sort out, supposedly. We wont speculate on this issue, if you feel you can control our PL destiny, no one can tell you otherwise, just as if you think this is purely emotional blackmail on the clubs part.
Testing times for all.
“HWTF” is not political, it’s not about any one person or any group / gang. It’s an idea, it’s common ground, something to remind us that despite our difference, we all do share at least one thing in common – our love of Newcastle United.
As such, we once again would ask all fans, from all corners of the globe, to join us as an act of solidarity with your fellow fans and post the following in a single post from this evening until the final whistle tomorrow:
“HWTF – HWTL”

Comment #72I can’t imagine that Ashley hasn’t been affected to some degree by all the hatred and adverse publicity he’s receiving.
I also think he’ll be feeling a bit of a mug that his gamble with our PL survival has come back to haunt him.
The problem is nobody knows how he will react this summer as he’s totally unpredictable.
The sad, unfair reality is that many thousands of fans, past , present and future are now at the mercy of a selfish, uncaring bully.

There is never a day goes by when someone on this blog doesn’t write: “Ashley is only interested in exposure for Sports Direct.”
He gave Sir John Hall the impression that he was buying the club to get exposure for Sports Direct.
The only time the club has responded immediately to anything in recent years was the statement it released a couple of week ago defending Sports Direct.
The only on-the-record comment we have direct from Ashley in recent years is a comment that NUFC was beneficial to the shareholders of Sports Direct.
Are we all agreed that the exposure it gets for Sports Direct is Ashley’s main reason for being at the club?
Underwritten by TV money?
Yes?
Okay…after three….”relegation won’t hort Ashley man!”
