Newcastle this year have been linked with Malaga’s Spanish International 22 year-old forward Juanmi, who gained his first full cap for Spain against Holland at the Amsterdam Arena on March 31st, after Chelsea’s Diego Costa withdrew from that game with a hamstring injury.
Juanmi – Malaga’s 22 year-old Spanish International
Juanmi is well thought of in Spain and he was a member of the team who won two consecutive UEFA European Under-19 Championships, and he scored two goals in the 2011 competition in Romania.
He’s played for the U17, U18 Spanish sides and made 19 appearances for the U19 side before making his debut in March.
JUanmi (full name Juan Miguel Jimenez Lopez) can play on either wing and also as a withdrawn striker, and for Spain against Holland he played as the main striker in March, and looked sharp in the 2-0 defeat.
Juanmi has had a good season for Malaga who are 8th in La Liga, and in 33 league games he’s scored 8 goals, and has been at his home town club since he was a youngster and came through the Malaga Youth Academy and also played for the Malaga B team, as he worked his way through the ranks.
With the interest of some big clubs in the youngster, Malaga weren’t daft and signed him to a new deal through 2018, but the release clause in that new contract is said to be €7M – which is around £5M – not a bad price for such a talented youngster.
Whether Newcastle will follow up their interest in the youngster will depend on whether we are still in the Premier League on Sunday night.
But if we are then Juanmi could well be one of the new players to join Newcastle in the summer, which should be a massive rebuilding summer for the Tyneside club, after the travails and disasters of this year.
We hope that’s the case.
