We’re sure that John Carver has gone through hell and high water these past 12 weeks, when we haven’t been able to get one win and we have only one point from 10 games, but John knows that if his team can beat an out of form West Ham side tomorrow – at least we will be safe and be able to look forward to Premier League football again next season.
John Carver – hopes to get the win tomorrow
Also fans around the world will be able o see every single Newcastle game live, which is not true if we are playing in the second division – in fact we’ll see very few of the games.
John has obviously thought long and hard since the debacle in the second half at QPR last weekend, and has talked about things he has thought about doing to try to motivate our players:
“I don’t think I’ll be asking the likes of Colo and Jonas to talk about the day at Aston Villa when Newcastle were relegated in 2009, but I did talk about their experiences in the meeting.”
“They’ve experienced this – Ryan Taylor and Tim Krul were here as well – so they know what it feels like. I talked about their experiences and how they had to deal with what came next, because it wasn’t nice.”
“I considered showing them something to reinforce what it’s like to be in the Premier League compared to what it’s like to be in the next division down.”
“This is what it’s like to go to Old Trafford, the Emirates and Stamford Bridge’ compared to ‘This is what it’s like to go to the lesser clubs with a smaller changing room and all of that’.”
“I thought about showing them the fans after the Aston Villa game, but I decided against it because I think if you can’t motivate yourself for a game as big as this, when you’ve got so much to play, then no matter I show you, it’s not going to make any difference.”
“I remember seeing Alan Shearer on the pitch afterwards, watching it on the TV, and on that day I genuinely didn’t speak for an hour afterwards. I thought, ‘I hope that never, ever happens to me’.”
“As it happens, I saw him the other day and we talked about what his feelings were, and I told him what I felt at the time. I just said, ‘I hope I don’t have to experience that’. Hopefully, I don’t.”
“I was in a pub. Newcastle played Middlesbrough a week or so before that, and I came over from Canada for that game. It was a difficult time.”
We all probably remember what it was like back on May 24th, 2009 when we were relegated – and it’s not something that’s very pleasant – that’s for sure.
If we can survive tomorrow it will a be a huge (make that gigantic) relief, and then we can talk (again) about what went wrong.
But if the Newcastle hierarchy ignore the mistakes that were made at the top, we’ll be in the same position in a year or so.
If we do survive tomorrow, the most important signing this summer is the new head coach – and we hope it’s somebody from the outside – like a Remi Garde who can bring in his own coaching staff.
If it’s Steve McClaren or John Carver (or both with Carver the assistant) – which is more than likely – we will be fighting relegation again next year at the time.
And it will show the Newcastle hierarchy are simply unwilling to learn from their many mistakes.
That would not be good for the club, and yes – that’s a huge understatement.
What do you think?

Dick Advocaat is well respected throughout the football world, his achievements speak for themselves and he is a likeable man.
The players have responded to his direction and encouragement and given their all.
He hasn’t once talked about himself or made any of it about him.
Our loser…….. I’ve said enough about him now, I feel like pukeing

I think some of Pardews egotistical bravado has rubbed off on Carvew.
Both have superiority complexes.

Just two of them could easily have made a difference, having said that could the penalty taker have been rsed to make the effort given the indifference some of them have shown I games.
On a slightly different note, I was in the Orkneys last weekend and the results were coming on a screen in the bar I was in and one bloke was getting excited that Inverness were going to play in Europe next year.
I was happy for him but couldn’t but wonder how a team like that, who would probably struggle in League 2 in England, can aspire to Europe and we seem to actively avoid it, was quite depressing especially when I saw our result flash up.
Still I enjoyed my weekend in the Orkneys for all that its a lovely place to visit despite the horizontal rain. 🙂

You’re right of course and the writing was on the walk after his first half-dozen games that Carver wouldn’t be up to the job.
They’ve risked millions on a dolt, an imbecile and that beggars belief – unless Ashley’s known that all along and is being spiteful.
Going forward and assuming they can bring in a new, credible HC, they’d be wise to get rid of Carver and recruit an assistant who’s got the potential to develop into a natural successor to the HC role over time.
As you know, in the real world of well run businesses, it’s called succession planning.
However, it seem that Ashley has no truck with your lardy dardy fancy ideas of business management as he’s a firm believer in the school of flying by the seat of ones pants.
God only knows what it must be like among the upper echelons of Sports Direct! All good and proven management practices will have been glanced at and thrown out if the window.

It works for him at ShyteDirect .con and I think he reverted to what he knows best when he realised that to succeed he would need to employ people that would demand a normal level of investment .
Who else would be able to put up with JFK’S drunken ramblings and Carvers cringeworthy bullshit.

thanks for the kindly words of wisdom.
I’m afraid as a Toon fan for over 60 years it’s endemic that I care about my team regardless of cr*p management and we’ve had a lot that before the current incumbents.
As for your suggestion that I get a Fkcing life, I would hope that my comment re. my trip to the Orkneys on a weekend that was crucial to our survival would suggest that my whole existence doesn’t revolve around what happens at St James Park.
Anyway sorry but I do care what happens tomorrow, I suppose I’m one of those dreamers that hopes that better things might be around the corner.
But if you want to look at life’s larger problems, one football teams problems pale into insignificance compared to say what is happening in Nepal.

Comment #104As much as I despise Arsely and what he has done to our club, my instincts and my heart won’t allow me to hope for relegation tomorrow .
I had a girlfriend years ago who I loved very much, but things didn’t work out and she ended up with someone else. As much as I despised her new man and wished him no luck or happiness. I couldn’t bring myself to wish for her demise.
That’s how I feel with Cashley and my beloved NUFC.

We must be about the same age. For me, it’s different this time. It’s no longer the NUFC we knew. It’s a cardboard cut-out of a club. The longer Ashley stays, the less I care.

Comment #107And if you really want something else to worry about let me mention the Russian posturing on the Finnish borders and the suggestion that ISIL are in the market for an atom bomb.
I think I’d prefer to see us still in the EPL and the continuance of the MA regime as opposed to the consequences of either of those possibilities.
Still as a blinkered narrow minded idiot what do I know.

Yeah I get what you’re saying, I remember the McKeag years and despite the fact that we were selling our best players we still strove to win things.
I can understand why there many who don’t care if we go down and there is a little bit of that in me but I haven’t quite got to that stage yet.
