John Carver has just announced the team for what is our most important game for six years and a game that will be John Carver’s last as the head coach, and both Papiss Cisse and Mike Williamson will start this game with Ayoze Perez and Remy Cabella on the bench.
Newcastle (4-4-2): Tim Krul; Daryl Janmaat, Mike Williamson, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Paul Dummett; Moussa Sissoko, Vurnon Anita, Jack Colback, Jonas Gutierrez; Papiss Cisse, Emmanuel Riviere
Substitutes: Freddie Woodman, Ryan Taylor, Siem de Jong, Sammy Ameobi, Remy Cabella, Yoan Gouffran, Ayoze Perez
West Ham (4-2-3-1): Adrian; Carl Jenkinson; Winston Reid, Reece Burke, Aaron Cresswell; Alex Song, Kevin Nolan (c); Stewart Downing, Cheikhou Koyate, Enner Valencia; Carlton Cole
Substitutes: Jussi Jaaskelainen, Joey O’Brien, James Tomkins, Morgan Amalfitano, Matt Jarvis, Nene, Elliot Lee
There’s no Rolando Aarons, so maybe he’s had trouble again with that hamstring of his – and that’s very worrying.
Siem de Jong is on the bench as is Remy Cabella, and it’s a strong bench for this so vital game.
Vurnon Anita comes into the side in midfield, so we can imagine he’s been impressive in training.
Vurnon had a very good game in the 1-1 draw against West Brom at right back, but was dropped when Janmaat came back into the side last week at QPR – so he’s back in the midfield four.
And former captain Kevin Nolan captains West Ham, and Kevin must have some mixed feelings about today’s game.
The players again stayed in a hotel last night, just as they did for the West Brom game a couple of weeks ago, and they put in a decent performance in that game to draw 1-1 – but we have to win this game today – a draw would not be enough if Hull beat Manchester United.
This is what captain Fabricio Coloccini has said about the game:
“As players we will do everything we can to make sure that when the final whistle is blown Newcastle are still a PL club”
“We have trained well and stayed in a hotel last night so that we were all together as a squad and staff.”
And former Newcastle captain Kevin Nolan, now at West Ham had this to say:
“It’s such a shame, seeing it from the outside, seeing where they are again after what happened not so long ago.”
Only about one in five think we can win this game and half the fans think we will lose today.
We hope to see Newcastle save themselves today with a good win.
Howay The Lads!!
