In what was Newcastle’s most important game in six years, Newcastle players produced an excellent performance of skill, commitment, passion and drive to get our first win in eleven games, and that dies some doing.
Vurnon Anita challenges former captain Kevin Nolan yesterday
But our players were ready for this game and we deservedly won the game 2-0, and that was our first win and our first clean sheet in over 12 weeks.
So the lads produced when they really had to, and we saved ourselves and didn’t have to rely on Hull not winning – although Steve Bruce’s side only drew 0-0 at home to Manchester United, and take the drop with QPR and Burnley – two sides who were promoted last year around this time.
Our best two players yesterday were undoubtedly Jonas Gutierrez and Vurnon Anita, who was a shock starter and an inspiration in central midfield – in what was a n excellent performance from Newcastle – when they were under such great pressure.
But the question to ask now is – how come we didn’t play like that over the previous ten games?
Vurnon had his best game ever for Newcastle yesterday, when the chips were down, and he will not be leaving Newcastle this summer, and the Dutchman’s played well in midfield and at full back for us this year – so he’s a good versatile player.
Jonas wrote his own fairy tale ending to his career on Tyneside yesterday with an assist and a goal when it mattered most, and he said it was like a Hollywood ending to his career on Tyneside, which lasted seven years.
There will now be a huge clear-out of players this summer, and money is available to bring in good new players – and we are looking forward to the club having a very good summer transfer window.
The club needs a very good summer transfer window.
It’s been an absolutely awful season for Newcastle fans – especially this year, when we amassed just 13 points from 19 league games, but it was a thrilling end to the season yesterday – and the fans finally had something to cheer about.
That game will live in the memories of Newcastle fans for many years to come – and we were so proud of our players yesterday.
They were simply terrific.

Vague comments or not, he did say he thought we had amassed enough points by january to be safe, was shocked at our current predicament, would invest next year and laid the blame at his own door.
Quite clearly to me, relegation is the last thing he wants and a blind man can see a major overhaul is needed which will involve a great deal of expense or else we may well be relegated next year.
In my opinion, he has no other option but to spend big and I wouldnt mind betting dirty derek and his rangers sidekick are the first non playing recruits

He said he would continue the policy of investing in the club. He talked about pound for pound value. None of this is any different and doesn’t indicate change.
As I said vague, and is very similar to plenty of statements that have come from the club. It offers hope, whilst promising nothing. More misdirection, and by the looks of things an absolutely roaring success for Keith Bishop Associates given how many are being swayed by this.
So the campaigners down tools while Ashley goes about building false hope, but when nothing materialises the fans have shown how easy it is to quell discontent, and Ashley knows they have the fans measure.

Sorry, I know the conversation has moved on, but I’m up and about doing stuff.
Folk talking like Brady is a 27/28 year-old, he’s less than 2 years older than Robertson, who is also good yes. Wicked delivery from both, with Brady just edging it for me and if we’re after a Charlie Austin as our point man, a perfect match. Think how many Robert and Solano crossed for Big Al! I’d love an Andre Ayew, but that’s not gonna happen, so somebody that can consistently supply the ST(s), has good work ethic, fairly quick, links well with others and can take a set-pieces, something our lot are utterly incapable of, is a good option – probably cost less than £5m.
I live and work in Hull and have never heard McGregor given any particular praise for the previous season, just because they weren’t displeased with him like this season, doesn’t mean he was anything other than average, a sideways step from Krul, at best. The players their fans are most concerned abut leaving are Brady, Robertson, Elmohamady, Dawson and Chester.
Their defence, minus the keeper, has been pretty solid all season, 7 teams with a worse defence and tied with Palace and West Brom it’s been the big money signings that have really let them down, Bruce can’t be trusted with a large pot of cash
Hernandez – £10m (flop of the season)
Livermore – £7m (Nothing more than a workhorse and we know what fuelled that….)
Huddlestone – £5.5m (Their Sissoko, lazy bast….
Snodgrass – £6m (unfortunately injured for the season before he even got going)
What are people’s thoughts on Cabella? I think next season he has to play second fiddle to SDJ in the AM role and wait for his chance or nowhere, simply hasn’t got the attributes to play out wide.
