Newcastle will follow up from Mike Ashley’s Sky Sports interview on Saturday to change the way Newcastle are run and there will be some changes – some of them significant.
We have put together a list of points that will change the way Newcastle are run and also the ambitions of the club have been changed by Mike’s interview – in short we now have some ambition to win something.
A worried Mike Ashley on Sunday
Here are some of the things that Newcastle will now do which are different from the past:
- Mike Ashley should be interviewed more and certainly his live interview before the crucial game turned out to be a good move, and Ashley came over quite well.
He certainly said the right things – but he has to follow through with these – with the bottom line being more interviews and communication from the owner – that can only be good. - Staying with communication there will be an even new focus on the fans – with even more emphasis on the Fans Forum with a drive to better communicate with fans.
That communication with the fans has been woefully poor for far too long – we look forward to the next Fans Forum meeting to be held within the next couple of weeks. - Ashley will now allow Newcastle and Chief Scout Graham Carr to sign players who are over 26 years of age – which Alan Pardew has been arguing for over the last couple of years – this will allow some experience in the side – which is a good move.
- Yes – he said it – we will now try to win something and the Cups must be a great opportunity for us starting next season.
Mike Ashley also hinted in his interviews he would consider Newcastle finishing in a Champions League position in the top four in the Premier League a success. Fans have been wanting this for years – and it is now a stated goal – it’s about time. - Newcastle will sign more British players rather than those from places like France and Spain – and this has been in operation for around a year at the club.
British players are more expensive, but we could also target top young British players who can come through the ranks on Tyneside, with some being signed as the finished product.
But we have already seen this in action – that we are after a number of British players this summer. - Use more of the profits we will be getting in the year ahead on building up a good squad.
Ashley said we have the cart in place – the very good financial results – but we are only half way there. Now we need to hitch the cart to the horses – with the horses being good players that can give us success.
In short we are in a good financial position but we have use that now to get in some good players so we can start to even have some success – a strange concept over the last eight years.
Mike made it very clear that he will not sell the club at any price and that he is staying at Newcastle.
But the club must put their words into action.
It seems that Mike has been so shocked at the near disaster for Newcastle this season – he’s had a wake-up call about the dangerous the way the club has been run by depleting the squad at the worst times – like we did in January.
Mike Ashley still has to prove to fans that he means what he said in the interview – but to us it was positive that the owner was interviewed on Sky Sports before the final game – that showed real courage.
And it seemed to pay off with our lads being excellent on Sunday with a terrific 2-0 win against West Ham, and Jonas making great headlines around the world for his human story.
A wonderful ending to an absolutely terrible season.
Next season we want to have a wonderful season.
Here’s Mike Ashley’s interview on Sky Sports on Saturday.

Comment #81Stealing cleverley would be good business, player who’s finding form again now.
If he hadn’t signed a deal yet, garbutt of Everton is a player with huge potential, I think he’ll get ahead of Baines soon.

Comment #82Can’t work out this article. It some areas it intimates this has been said by the club (which it clearly hasn’t)
For example “Here are some of the things that Newcastle will now do which are different from the past”
Well there’s nothing been said that will do all those things. It’s pure speculation.

You mean the HC appointment MA apparently has nothing to do with because he’s appointed people to handle that type of appointment….sounds to me like a ready made excuse from him to hide behind

Comment #86@will die for the toon army: So he knows a spreadsheet when he looks at one. That doesn’t mean he’s any good at hiring and firing football personel, does it? In fact, his record is already (quite heavily) suggesting that he’s actually fairly atrocious at it, and he doesn’t seem to care much about communication.
So yeah, new MD please.

Comment #87I’d take Shawcross, less error prone than Colo.
I’d also try and grab fer from QPR while we’re getting Austin. Crackling little player and great work ethic too.
I’m going to just leave this one here as well….Brian Clough sacked as Sheffield United Coach….
I know I know, not the big name we want and again his experience may be questioned, but he may appeal to Ashley as he’s someone who wants to get involved in all aspects of a club, youth team development particularly and is great at getting players geared up. Plus at Sheffield united he has an excellent cup record for a club that size. Derbys good form under McClaren has been put down by many to be because of the squad assembled by Clough too.
Personally I wouldn’t want him, he has a knack of falling out with players but I can see why Charnley might be tempted by him.

When Pardew came in as manager was Newcastle linked with any specific manager at the time?
All this McClaren reports is getting me nervous, but at the same time Pardew name wasn’t even mentioned after CH was sacked.
Hopefully this McClaren links is a smoke screen, surely LC must be taken notice of the fans view on head coaches, bringing in McClaren would be the last straw IMO and fans again would just turn against McClaren in an instant and LC & CO.
MA must have the final say in head coach appointments?

Comment #93Saylor should be a back up defender only he is decent but injured too much but I think if he was a bit part player he would be able to last a full season !!
Shawcross now that would be a superb defender if we could get him he could easily be our captain for the next 6 or 7 years
We are being linked with Ashley Williams of Swansea get Shawcross and Him leaving Colo , Dummett and Saylor as back up and then get Lascalles and Tyrone Mings to be our young up and comers as defenders learning their trades
I think we also need Janmaat quality at left back Haidara is injured all the time and is not good enough defensively and Dummett is too slow and not good enough going forward
Quite like Robertson who plays for Hull although he is young so maybe Taylor who plays for Swansea would be good
Also we need a couple of players who can take set pieces and a coach to show them how to defend from set pieces !!
I worry though everyone is getting all optimistic to find we end up with Carver and Mclaren !!

Carver will be here in July when they report back.
Club will not be rushed into making decisions.
They are working on an alternative list of candidates to the one they had in January (you know the 80 strong list that probably did not exist anyway).
Not good news at all.

also have heard that the news of pardew staying was not taken well by colo cabaye or arfa. colo was leaving anyway but it would be disastrous if we lost the latter two due to the boards obsession with ‘stability’
tequilamag // May 25, 2013 at 3:05 PM
CBT as all the players you mention have been out of the country when the news broke he was staying, I doubt it. But don`t let the facts get in the way of your story.

cisse’s big toe…you are absolutely correct…I can personally guarantee all three will be gone due to pardew staying and even Pardew said this morning it will be difficult to keep the squad together because he knows damn well what their intentions are

Sparky. Thats life mate, players come and go but until proved otherwise I will believe what HBA has to say on the matter rather than speculation on a blog. There have been no press reports any of the players are unhappy with the exception of Colo. Newcastle stories are gold dust for the press. If there was any substance to the story it would be all over the place. But if you want to name your source please do.
sparky55 // May 25, 2013 at 3:36 PM
always funny when investigative reporters such as yourself always ask for the source…just keep a copy of the blog…I have and I’ll be the one to cut and paste in the not so distant future.

Comment #109When I’ve looked or read about managers who are available most seem to have contracts that end June July. We know he won’t want to pay compo.
I still expect Carver until Xmas but even if he isn’t I wouldn’t really expect a HC appointment for around a month.
Carver as we know went back to his old job after end of season so it’s not like I was expecting him sacked.
IF they are to do it properly it should take a few weeks to sort out and interview applicants.
The club should have had their list ready by now and I hope it is. Managers will he on holidays and agents wil be sniffing around. If there’s to be any new HC I think it’ll be two to three weeks before we any movement.

Comment #111@Sir Braveheart – I have some terrible news for you…. Brian Clough died in 2004, I know we need a miracle but I don’t think Ashleys millions can raise him from the dead – his son Nigel is useless and been sacked at every club he’s been at.
DiMatteo is awful – did you see Chelseas lucky champs league win under him – they just parked the bus in every game
Karankas team is also very defensive, people should actually watch some of these proposed managers teams before they suggest them…. jeez
and did someone mention Steve Bruce hahahahahahaha
he’s never improved a club he’s been at and always had them hovering around relegation

Comment #112I think the main problem is these coaches still have years left on their current deals. I can’t see Ashley paying them up, he will get his money’s worth.
Then the problem is bringing a new headcoach in that can’t bring his own people with him.
If we do go out and get a coach I can see McClaren coming, otherwise it’s JC until Christmas.
Why Ashley can’t just pay up these contracts given the compensation he recieved from Pardew’s exit is just sheer greed for me. But it must be Charnley not Ashley when looking at his interview. Maybe he is trying a bit too hard to impress Ashley with his money saving endevours.
It’s mental how Derby is saying NUFC’s interest in McClaren has derailed their season. Can’t believe they have sacked him to be honest, bet that was a surprise.

My source was impeccable…I did work on his house and as an employee of the club I believed what he said would be factual but alas it did not turn out to be…whatever that reason was is something I’m not privy to but at time of press it was what the chap in question told me.
Very sorry it didn’t turn out to be true…maybe someone changed Colo’s mind!…but I least I don’t make shit up like ED does on a daily basis…that’s not Mike Ashleys mission statement above…it’s another gathering of bulls!t and has not attachment to fact whatsoever.
