The game on Sunday showed just how great Newcastle United can be, when the fans are right behind the team, and of course it was such an important game as we all remember what happened six years ago at Aston Villa – when shockingly we were relegated.
And it was possible, the same things could have happened again on Sunday.
Ayoze Perez – 21 year-old Newcastle striker
So impressed with the game and atmosphere on Sunday
The tension was simply massive, and there were some great TV shots of the Newcastle fans and yes – even of Mike Ashley – as we missed a lot of chances.
But then Moussa Sissoko finally scored and Jonas Gutierrez cemented a place in Newcastle history with not only a wonderful performance in his last game for the club – but also the second goal where his celebration with the crowd will be forever remembered.
Young Ayoze Perez was on the bench – and that was a big surprise – but also in such a red-hot atmosphere it’s asking a lot of the youngster – who has been simply great for us this season.
Ayoze has been interviewed and said his best moment of the season was being on the bench on Sunday to experience the terrific atmosphere at a packed out St. James’ Park, as the fans roared on Newcastle to a fantastic 2-0 win – and safety in the league.
Our first win and first clean sheet since February 28th – over 12 weeks ago.
Phew!!!!!
This is what the 21 year-old has said:
“I’m very happy with the way things have gone,” “I didn’t expect to adapt to English football so quickly, but I think I did adapt.”
“Literally, I achieved all the goals I had when I came. It was beyond my expectations, so I’m very, very happy.”
“Sunday was my favorite moment of the season.” “The best moment was undoubtedly the last game. It was very emotional, especially when we scored the two goals.”
“It felt great, and I was very emotional on a personal level. Despite the troubles we went through in the season, the fans stayed with us and supported us right through to the end.”
“They supported the team all the way, and we managed to get the energy from them to get through the season.”
Given that Perez was signed for the Development squad it’s been just a terrific season for the youngster and he has improved a lot in this his very first season.
And he also has a great imitation of a Geordie accent – what else could you ask of the 21 year-old?

🙂 🙂 🙂
We’re looking forward to seeing just how good this lad can become at Newcastle in the seasons ahead – and we need to keep him at the club

Comment #83It looks like Mc Claren has been the choice for a while and Charnley is just going through the motions with his shortlist .
If he does come I really think we need to keep an open mind and give the guy a chance.
He ‘ll need to develop his skills at working under intense pressure , that’s for sure.
He is very well respected throughout the game and the players he has worked with seem to have huge respect for his coaching ability.
He was instrumental in ManU’s success for several years as fergy wasn’t the main man on the training ground.
Also the time he has been in Europe has helped him evolve and stay in touch with the modern game.
He is definitely a better option than Laudrup who seems to have a difficult character and the rest would be a big risk as they have never managed in the PL.

Comment #84@midlandsmag – I’m near Burton, quite like Hasselbaink hes in the paper most nights, says the right stuff and Albion play better football than ever in their history.
Think Mclarens strength is coaching though. If we have no choice but to be stuck with McLaren we should probably have him on the training ground

You are probably right – my footballing/coaching knowledge isn’t great. They do know each other though and McClaren advised Hasselbaink to go to Albion. Just seems there is a connection there somewhere.

Comment #88I think we need a bit of common sense around here. By the way, am so glad we stayed up – wud have won 300 euro on my bet for Toon to go down, but never so happy to lose 300 euro for holiday drinkies.
Anyway…
1. HBA is overrated and has never, and will never, be a top player. People mentioning him in the same breath as Romario and hope Bobby Robson managed him, is just silly. They dont belong in the same sentence. Pardew was correct on him, but never was given credit for this.
2. Pardew is better that the lunatic fringe ever gave him credit for, and Sack Pardew look like a bunch of tools now. Ashley must carry the can, along with Carr, and Pardew, for not building on our 5th place and at least making us a solid mid table team.
3. Laudrup….hmm…he’s flaky, but we cant take all his credit because Rodgers did a good job.
4. I am warming to McLaren, and his credentials deserve some respect. I cant blame him for turning down the Toon during the last part of the season. However if he comes, we all know what will happen with Charva. If McLaren can genuinely develop kids, he will be coming here, because on Ashleys model and the importance of profit on young stars.
5. Garde concerns me….he distanced himself too and needed a rest in France. Can he live with the NUFC pressure? Have a feeling not…Wud like to see him here though.
6. Di Matteo – no thanks – will bore the pants off us. If Carr is blinded by his Champions league bus parking then Carr is indeed as overrated as I think he is.
7. Its the biggest moment in the club since near relegation and Charnley has to assess the candidates and make a logical decision.
8. Or get Munster Mag in to work with Charnley and sort all this rubbish out.
9 We should not rule out managers from leagues that we want to invest in – eg Germany – so the Borussia M’gladbach boss could still be very relevant…

Those are my sentiments too.
It’s curious that a few on here criticize McClaren for reportedly turning us down when asked. But didn’t Sir Bobby turn us down the first time because he had an active contract like McClaren had ?

A ha! That’s kind of a case-in-point.
Hazard changed. If you watch him, he works his ass off. Correct attitude. Mata apparently couldn’t (or wouldn’t) and off he went. He is a very gifted AMF but did not have the work ethic that jose required.

Comment #93Stank…… To honour his obligations and to turn down an approach to excavate us from the shi…… Doesn’t make him a bad choice.
He has a lot of managerial experience at the top level has done well with a low budget and was part of Manu’ s success with good players to work with.
I think it ‘s. Really important that the players respect the coach. Look at the teams that win.

He ticks many of the boxes needed to be a good manager / head coach. The issue is whether Charnley has those same boxes !

If McLaren end up at Sunderland, good for him,he may do better there as well. Then we have a chance to see a foreign mgr for the first time, which most of us waiting to happen eagerly, and things on the pitch can change finally.

Comment #99Norther Echo Report;
MIKE Ashley’s Sports Direct this morning cheered shareholders when it revealed profit before tax and earnings per share are both expected to come in above forecasts of roughly £290m and 36.7p per share.
The firm’s share price leapt around 5 per cent in early trading following the Stock Exchange announcement.
“This is primarily as a result of our continued and prudent depreciation policy and lower interest charges,” the firm said ahead of its annual conference today.
Sports Direct will also give an update on its investment in large-format city centre stores in the UK and on its plans for combined gym and sports retail concept stores.
The firm, founded and controlled by Mr Ashley said that net debt had been cut to £60m as of April 26, compared to £212m a year ago.
The company plans to announce its full-year results on July 16.

Comment #105not fussed over English or European. A manager than can speak French would be an advantage due to the large number of French speakers we have. The dutch lads seem to have English fluent whereas the French seem to take longer to learn the language.
I’d take clement who is French fluent though. Pretty sure Brendan Rodgers is fluent in French (and Spanish and Portuguese) but I guess that just means all nationalities get to hear the madness he spouts.
Garde would suit as he fits the brief. Gourvennec also would be a good choice, as would the Roma boss ( tho no chance on him)
I’d as soon take a progressive English manager though, McLaren included. Id take most people over Carver!
id take a cardboard cutout of John Carver over actual john carver to get the job tho, cardboard cutout would talk less crap

Comment #114The interview from Ashley suggests that all he does is sanction the finances, which he has said he would be more lenient with from now on.
But the manager selection process may not be simple as a decent manager might seek re-assurances on the spending and ask for such clauses in the contract. Ashley cannot be easily believed.

I like the bit about the tool. Carver was embarrassing. Give Pardew his due he came across well.
I suppose a foreign manager wouldn’t qualify for the ‘Tool Assessment’ as we possibly couldn’t understand him anyway but would forgive him for being a foreigner.
If he is French I just hope he doesn’t sound like Peter Seller’s Inspector Clouseau. Why do so many Frenchman sound like the good detective ?

Comment #120Brentford just appointed a manager so close to Alan Pardew in style its untrue! ha!
Marinus Dijkhuizen! So similar in fact in his first season he played attacking football much like Pardew did at Reading and has lived on this reputation ever since despite playing dreary containment counter attack ever since!
Quite liked their last manager mind, Warburton, Surprised hes not been linked much
