My Dream Came True When I Joined Newcastle

10:55 pm, Friday, June 5th, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 35 Comments

One of the real successes at Newcastle last season – and there weren’t too many – was 21 year-old Ayoze Perez who scored seven Premier League goals for us in what was supposed to be a season for him with the Development squad under Peter Beardsley.

Ayoze finished second in our Man of the Match poll to Daryl Janmaat, who was another great signing for us last summer.

Ayoze Perez – great season last term

And while Newcastle have not been getting a lot of positive press lately,  Ayoze is telling everybody on his Twitter account that his dream started last summer, when he joined Newcastle United.

This is what tweet Ayoze has sent out:

It’s not surprising that Ayoze is an extremely popular youngster on Tyneside, and while it was unusual  for Perez not to play in our final game  – he appeared 39 times for the first team last season – that didn’t stop him from saying what the highlight of the season was for him:

“My favorite moment of the season, the best moment undoubtedly the last game….very emotional, especially when we scored the two goals.”

“It felt great and it was very emotional on a personal level, despite all the troubles we went through in the season, the fans always stayed with us, supporting us right through to the end.”

“We managed to get the energy from them to get through this season.”

The youngster doesn’t want to leave Newcastle, and there are high hopes the 5’11” Spanish U21 International striker can become a star player in the future for Newcastle.

And there’s nothing we saw last year from the 21 year-old that says he cannot do just that.

And when you think he can already do a great Geordie accent – what more could you ask of Ayoze?

He’s a smashing lad.

Comments welcome.

This is pleasant and disturbing news at the same time.

That’s utter tripe and you know it, I’m not keen on Scteve being manager but to blast his title winning record in the dutch like is just nonsense. He won the league over 38 games, he won the league with Twente not one of the giants like Ajax or PSV…wheb was the last time anyone other than them 2 win the league prior to Mc winning it? How often has that been done?

I don’t like the appointment but please stick to facts and pets not distort them….Btw I think Jo is a decent manager, better than anyone we’ve had for the last 10 years!!

Bullshit Bishop’s been busy if late. Is he on a bonus based on ST renewals?

And, it’d be appreciated if he could tear himself away from the sales pitch and suggest to Charnley that he gives us all the heads up on whether we’ve got a proper HC yet.

Oh and while he’s at it, he might just remind Charnley about the small matter of the Fans Forum’s open letter, the lack of full, point-by-point written reply to it and the meeting he said he’d bring forward and take place before the season ended.

Quite right Ayoze. Wonderful club, Ashley or otherwise, but c’mon, if you’re going to appoint the guy just get on with it, so we can get a decent CF, CB, LB in, Obertan, Gouffran and Willo out and soothsayer, alchemist, witch doctor, succubus type on the books to get Aarons, Tiote, De Jong and Tubby Taylor on the paddock for the odd game, for crying out loud.

Well it’s busy tonight. Thought I’d just pop in and say a few words of wisdom.

But I’ve no idea what to say. Steve McLaren getting his parking spot stencilled, the incumbent coaching staff lying back easily on their sunbeds on holiday, looking forward to a USA jolly. Numerous crap fringe players on the blocks ready for their chance to shine against third tier Yank soccer teams, a whole load of regurgitated tosh from Mike’s PA squad and off we go into another stultifying season.

Jimmy smith, you forgot South American Shaman. Look no further than me for all your sage advice.

My biggest concern is that Carver and probably colo will make decisions on who stays and who goes.

  • 9 ToonFromLeeds // Jun 6, 2015 at 1:25 AM

Supposedly the Mackems will have £50 million to spend

  • 10 HarriboNo9 // Jun 6, 2015 at 1:32 AM

There is a Newcastle United player that posts on this blog seemingly. Can anyone tell me who it is so I can follow there comments ???? Does anyone know ????

  • 11 sickandtired // Jun 6, 2015 at 1:39 AM

And the buzz is they will send Perez out on loan?

If that doesn’t tell you what gormless prix are running this club then nowt will.

@ED – are you ever going to write anything original or does the blog only repeat other people’s stories?

  • 12 Thump // Jun 6, 2015 at 1:41 AM

@HarriboNo9: It’s not a player, it’s Penfold himself, and his username is “Jeff from Benwell”.

Facts when you look deep. When will Mike stop Toying us.
So true. Change can happen and now is the Best Time when we have got a bit of money and the book is balance.

It got to happen at this period. If not i most of the things will still remain the same.

For that Ashley .. OUT!!! ..Ashley .. OUT!!! Ashley OUT!!!..

Ayoze will soon attract interest and a 20 million will be a done deal.

Our Toon…AZ won the Eredivision the year before and the year after SM resigned they won the Dutch Cup.

Don’t try and make SM something he’s not. He won the league by a point and so what? They had a great team and it was the right time to do…kudos to him.

But what has he done lately?

  • 17 NEWEXPATMAGPIE // Jun 6, 2015 at 6:15 AM

This will be all well and good Ayoz , until Ashley
gets a 10Mil plus offer from another Club for you ?

Nothing surprises me any more in this Circus of a club.
The class way to deal with Jonas would of been to let him stay on a year contract basis until the lad decides what he wants to do because he has always been a class act, insead of this the way he and Ryan Taylor were handled beggars belief !

Not only this but the Head Coach appointment is also a Joke ! Okay Mclaren is a level above JC and has a bit more experiance but i see us half way through next season and there will be a Campagn screaming :

    ” Mclaren Out”!

When will the idiots running the Club ever freeking learn? There are much better alternatives to Mclaren and Carver out there? But then, how are they going to Steer the Ship with out a Decent Rudder ?

It looks like we are going to be Stuck with Mclaren then?

  • 18 jesperfuglsang - capt'n awesome of the lemon crew // Jun 6, 2015 at 6:18 AM

ToonFromLeeds…yes MQ is right! Hiring SM is proof we have no ambition!

  • 19 jesperfuglsang - capt'n awesome of the lemon crew // Jun 6, 2015 at 6:27 AM

Why is it both fans think the future is more bright after the Ashley interview and that SM is a better or different alternative to Pardew?

…what was the catalyst for that thinking? Just curious. Seeing as more than half voted that logic would dictate someone who voted that way is in here right now.

    I am all ears 🙂

  • 22 jesperfuglsang - capt'n awesome of the lemon crew // Jun 6, 2015 at 6:35 AM

Ed…I think you need to add some sort of Unicode. Anyone knows something about this ?

  • 23 cyprus // Jun 6, 2015 at 7:04 AM

two very good questions. And there are scientific answers:

“Why is it both fans think the future is more bright after the Ashley interview and that SM is a better or different alternative to Pardew?”

    1. According to behavioural science, when someone commits himself publicly to do something, the likelihood that he will see it through has been proven to increase dramatically.

    2. AP has won nothing whereas Mc has won something, and he has more wideranging experience. Past players like his coaching. AP played Ober over HBA, Cole over Tevez 🙂 and the most boring football you’ve ever seen at NUFC. Also, he shattered all negative records, until JC came in.

  • 24 jimmysmith // Jun 6, 2015 at 7:10 AM

Hiring Steve McClaren is no proof of anything other than hiring Steve McClaren. It’s hard to even ascertain a fair guess as to what it might mean.

  • 25 leonado_keng // Jun 6, 2015 at 7:12 AM

This upcoming season is very important to Newcastle obviously. If Mike appoint wrong manager who have to take care team including push team for more succesful, it will turn out to be many pressures back to him as boomerang forces. Mike, you give some promise words to fans before last game so you must display your intensions otherwise they will protest you harder than you have ever got. To beginning with your attentions from appointed manager who they wants according to votes at first and followed by new top players from many moneys you got over 70 Million pounds

  • 26 The overrated Frenchman // Jun 6, 2015 at 7:43 AM

    Well said, King Leonardo…

  • 27 mickalfas // Jun 6, 2015 at 7:44 AM

The deadwood have to be cleared first,we don’t have enough quality in the squad
Austin would be a great signing imo ,could be a folk hero here with the right service
Ffs please sort out the defence asap, its been needed for years ,I can see a better future with around 8 quality signings ( lol)
    One can dream!!

  • 28 sparky55 // Jun 6, 2015 at 7:47 AM

I still think the PR machine is being uba silent because Ashley has a surprise for us. Every decision he makes comes out of the blue and from left field and don’t think he’ll disappoint with the appointment of the new HC either.

I’m not sure we’ll particularly like who’ll we end up with of if it’ll be a better appointment than maclaren…but I don’t think it’ll be Maclaren.

Strange how my spell check turns Maclaren into macaroon….maybe that’s a sign! 🙂 …soft, lightweight and with no real substance!

    harribo @ 10
    charlady is “jane”
Or my guess “toon brother ” is saylor looking to get his spot back next year .

  • 30 one fine day // Jun 6, 2015 at 8:20 AM

    Scratch that .
I don’t think Steven Taylor would ever refer to himself as the smartest guy in the room
    the mystery continues….

  • 31 davis_toons // Jun 6, 2015 at 8:21 AM

Apart from … Steve McClaren..there’s no more resume from other coaches in England or the rest of the World?

Or was it just Ashley. Properly it was.

  • 32 ScoopSouthAfrica // Jun 6, 2015 at 8:22 AM

Fellow bloggers I only hope he performs better than his namesake in F1…….

  • 33 LGFUAD21 // Jun 6, 2015 at 8:25 AM

It’s funny that I’ve seen people on here saying. We don’t demand a team that makes top 6 just a team that tries and plays good football.

the football Mcclaren played at Twente and Derby was excellent. Can’t really remember too much of the style at Boro but I think the england job is always a tough one.

The media is against you, the players are overrated for the best part. Capello is considered and england failure too despite having the best record by some confidante way of anybody in the last 10-15 years in that job. roy is getting some results but that’s because he has slowly managed to get rid of the deadwood and bring the more technically gifted kids through.

Wolfsburg and Forrest there is no excuse for. Forrest do have a weak team and an owner with lofty ambitions (especially terrible squad when sm took over)

As for Wolfsburg it’s anyone’s guess what went wrong. Steve himself has widely acknowledge that he misread the culture of the dressing room there and was trying to enforce a culture that doesn’t come naturally to german dressing rooms.

Is Steve and underwhelming appointment? Yes. Terribly when I think with the right board and ambition we could be attracting not quite champagne but maybe Buck’s Fizz managers like Garde, gaultier, FDB, tuchel.

Is Steve a gamble? No (i still maintain you learn more from your failures than your successes). While safe isn’t good for some it has some merits given how much of a shambles we are. For a while it seemed like pardew had finally steadied the ship but all that has been undone in the past few seasons.

Can Steve get us playing good football? I don’t see why not given hews clearly a half decent coach with a good philosophy (take a closer look at how comfortable and second nature passing football came to Derby, their championship players looked more comfortable on the ball than our team)

Can Steve be successful at newcastle? Deserves a platinum statue at sjp if he is given I find it hard to see how any manager regardless of ability can be at Newcastke with this set up.

I just hope he is given a chance to show what he can do. In the past we have seen seemingly good managers fail horrifically (dalglish, souness, Keegan’s 2nd stint). And that’s just at this club.

I just wish Steve would be able to bring his own coaching team and not have to work with ours. John carver clearly can’t coach decent football but for me dave Watson (who was promoted after Pardews exit) is woeful. Ex england defender, meant to shore up our defence. It was clear he had coached the back four to playing narrow and that’s when we really saw the goals fly into our own net.

  • 34 one fine day // Jun 6, 2015 at 8:26 AM

Maclaren can do himself the power of good by walking in and firing the coaching set up pronto .

If he is happy to work with what is currently in place then he may as well say he is as complicit as pards was and that nothing will change.

That may buy him some time then again one bonus at nufc these days is we no longer actually sack a manager no matter how bad we look .. FACT.

  • 35 NEWEXPATMAGPIE // Jun 6, 2015 at 8:59 AM

Lots of sense being written here !

If Mclaren comes then he would be able to do a better job bringing his own people in, but, will he be allowed to do that? I have my doubts about that?
