It’s a good question as to which players will be leaving the club this summer, since we need a bigger squad than we had last season, if only to be able to get past all the injuries we seem to pick up every season.
And since John Carver kept saying there were players not good enough for Newcastle and they will be leaving the club this summer, we assume a number of them will be on their way.
Mehdi Abeid to leave this summer?
The Sun today have identified three players they think will leave Newcastle – Mehdi Abeid, Gabriel Obertan and Yoan Gouffran – and since they still have contracts at Newcastle, they will be put on the transfer list.
After 22 year-old Mehdi Abeid, who is of Algerian descent but born in France (that’s why I’m saying he’s French in this article), had done so well in Greece last year while on loan.
We were hoping he would come through, but Carver hardly played him this year, and it’s a good bet that Panathinaikos will be back in for him this summer.
That’s where he had an excellent loan spell and hit 10 goals in 38 appearances for the Greek side.
Gabby Obertan showed his best form of the season until he was injured against Liverpool, but it looks like the former Manchester United winger will be moved on this summer.
And another Frenchman, Yoan Gouffran, has been disappointing thee last two seasons, and while he works hard he hasn’t been the goal threat we had hoped he would be.
Not many players played well for John Carver this year – most players didn’t show anywhere near their best form for the coach who lacked man-management skills – and just couldn’t get the players to play for him.
So we are hoping Steve McClaren will be able to take a look at all the players in pre-season, before deciding who should leave – Steve shouldn’t rely on what John Carver tells him about the players.
After all McClaren may be able to get some of those fringe players playing at or near their best,
And we must retain a bigger squad for next season, otherwise we could soon be down to the bare bones again because of injuries, as we were this year.
Comments welcome.

It seems a nonsense that if Abeid is one of Carrs ‘spots’ that he would not see why he is struggling to improve. Therefore his sway on these decisions can not be that significant. Anyway an article in the Sun is comparable to an advertising box in the ‘For Sale’ section of the local rag.

By which he means that the club will use existing players as bait to attract a buyer and sell as part of turnover, whatever the margin.

Comment #43Abeid has potential so should stay.
It’s Carver that should go, he has none.
Wasn’t there a rumour of a bust up in training between Carver and Abeid – who if he had any sense should have told Carver to do one.
If Carver holds a grudge and isn’t man enough to get the best out of younger players and to manage them well then that’s indicative of the amateur approach we have in our coaching – therein lies the problem ( albeit one of many ! )
Yet again I feel that the world is in the 21st Century and that NUFC management is Victorian.
And it was Carver who phoned Taylor and Jonas because he couldn’t meet and look them in the eye and then asked Taylor to pass the phone to Jonas….to say that both were on their way out.
The problem is there for all to see.
Incompetence and mis management on an industrial scale.

Comment #47I don’t think any of the fringe players will leave until he assesses the squad to be honest.
He won’t have a say on Sissoko for example, but they’ll let him make a decision on the ones who aren’t worth anything.

Just goes to show what we have been missing throughout the time we have had Ameobi, Ranger, Best, Harewood, Carrol, Ba, Cisse, Plus how poor Løvenkrands, Matins and HBA(!) were if they were not equal to an injured Owen.

Comment #50barkel @ 37 Yes we’re all dutifully resigned to having a second rate, uninspiring recently fired manager (sorry Head Coach) in charge in August and another dismal, non competitive season on the horizon.
Things never change – especially the down trodden, ever forgiving sheep that bleat into St James Park.
We really deserve what we get.

Comment #51Mick Quinn on talk sport was saying that Liverpool approached Klopp but he was adamant that he needed to be in control of all transfers.
They wouldn’t agree so it was a non starter. Not much chance of us employing a manager who wants to manage and not just be a head coach.
That’s how it it is under Ashley and we’re stuck with it.

Comment #52I was just getting ready to hail the return of Danny Gosling back into the Premiership, which no one seems to have mentioned and then I realised he only played 278 minutes (out of 4140) last season, one whole game, two assists and no goals. Ouch!

Comment #54If Liverpool can’t get a top coach in that just shows where that leaves us under those kind of policies.
Why this need to trust a jumped up admin clerk and a head scout over a proper football manager with years of experience (hopefully) is beyond me like. The only reason for it is to spend as little as possible on the squad, sell players and save the coin.
The whole system is completely flawed and against building anything to progress. The only thing it does is save money which the save up for 3 years and start over.
If this dosn’t change I hope there is hell on for the first game but i’ll wait to see who we bring in and who we release and replace.

Comment #55I actually have zero hope on charnley being able to get the players we desperately need.
It’s going to be a bunch of freebies with risk and gamble again. He needs to look good with Ashley.
Spending little and keeping us safely above relegation is his KPI.

Sorry but it comes with over 60 fraught years of faithfully watching and following the Toon. Problem is I’m rarely wrong about these things.
Seen it all before – done it and worn the T-Shirt.
Been at the Westwood Out and McKeag Out campaigns and followed John Hall round the clubs on his fantastic mission to take this club over to greater heights (and he did). Thing is Toon fans had REAL bollocks then with a strong desire for progress, now they just sit and take any old bu*****t.
One good thing – when/if McClaren is finally announced next week that’s the last you’ll hear from me. Can’t take any more of the unambitious, lying crap from Ashley and his non-entity, inept cronies. Every man hits his limit and I’m afraid I’ve just got there on mine.

I have no faith in Charnley either, but I think if he makes a cock up in the managerial appointment and then the transfers he’ll get the chop pretty quick.
Look at Kinnear, his appointment made a mockery of Mike Ashley so he binned him sharpish. And that was his mate!
I think the four-eyed diglett is on thin ice as it stands, he’s got to make an impression this summer or the fan base won’t be neutralised which will have a knock on effect going forward.

Comment #63If you want to see three players who will be leaving the club in the not to distant future, then look no further than the three youngsters mentioned in the previous thread.
Given NUFC’s success (lack of) with the home made crop of kids then I give these lads no chance of breaking into the first team.
Does that make me negative or realistic?
Again I ask why a lot of people seem to want us rid of Abeid.

Comment #67Dazzler…Yes. To be honest, I am getting annoyed now. I get there are fans who simply want to be positive about what comes next – of course everyone is entitled to do so.
What I can’t get my head around is why those who are less inclinded to do so are being targetted in this way?
It’s like the last 8 years haven’t happened.
Each and every toon fan that I know of wants the club to be successful. Just because they don’t think we will be under our current setup doesn’t make their view any less valid. Given the history under Ashley, it’s perfectly reasonabe.
I can only assume it’s upsetting folks desire to stick their head in the sand.

I don’t think neutralising the fan base will ever be in their priority. Charnley is completely incapable in his role and he needs to do how Ashley likes things to be done.
Mark my words we’ll probably sign 1 or 2 players on the cheap and the striker and defenders we need will be loan deals. That’s all!

I think it’s just the way this blog is. Posters were and probably still are hammered for being positive also, or, in the past 4 years looking above Pardew as the problem instead of hammering him while we all knew who the culprit was for the scenario we found ourselves in.
That’s NUFC blog. I’v never known it any different to be honest. 2 sides constantly digging at each other. The good thing is times change and things flip round, opinions change, it does keep the blog interesting but it can go too far sometimes and can be a touch stressful to folk.

Comment #72Prodigy…I get that and welcome opposing views. The blog is boring as when it’s all one sided.
I do wish an actual arguement could be put forward though.
Just that it’s happening so be positive is hardly much of a debate.
At least those who are negative have 8 years of experience to draw on – the argument generally makes itself these days. Sadly.

Comment #73Wynsleap……… That’s really sad. Do you think Mc Claren is so bad? I’m not saying we couldn’t have been more adventurous with the next choice of HC., but there is a case that can be made for Mc Claren to give us some direction and a more watchable brand of football.
I think it’s still a wait and see mission as to which players come in. Please don’t lose hope, Ashley is really on trial now and if it is the same unambitious dross next season, I think the fans really will revolt.

Comment #75Quick question for both doom & gloom side and positive side:
We have apparently said 6 players will be coming into the club, take away Jonas and Raylor & if we sell the 3 mentioned above that’s 5 out and 6 in…..what do people think about this?
My personal opinion is that we are already mega short, we need at least 2 CBs a FB, a DM, 2 Wingers, a creative player and at least 2 CFs. It won’t happen but that’s just how short we are in my opinion.

Comment #76Every time I try to be optimistic the club do something to sap it away. Latest example Sammy gets a new contract and Abeid is gonna be sold!! A player who showed more last season in less starts than Sammy that he has something about him if developed correctly. Unfortunately this has all the hallmarks of Carver making the decisions on who stays and who goes!!

Comment #77OurToon…It’s never really been about size of the starting squad (within reason),it’s the quality of that squad and the fact that most of the current squad seem to spend a majority of the season injured.
No point in having numbers if they’re not good enough or fit enough to play.
This squad desperately needs leadership and players who are ready to make an impact, imdago (in my doom and gloom opinion) of course 🙂

There’ll be a lot more than 6 leaving.
Same as last year 7 in 13 out squad filled with kids to pack it out.
I wouldn’t bet on Sammy staying either, IMO the club only offered him a contract as it means there due compo if he signs for someone else. If we hadn’t offered a contract we wouldn’t be entitled to compo.
They’ll have offered him buttons.

Aye, I get you. I don’t think things will be changing anytime soon in regards to this blog though.
This summer is going to have some hefty arguments on here I bet.
Hopefully the club will push on and spare us the divide..
The funny ironic part of it is if Ashley up and left, this blog would go back to being about constant football and squad players, maybe a but boring haha 🙂 but i’d have that!
