Charnley Needs To Call Fans Forum Meeting Soon

2:13 pm, Sunday, June 7th, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 134 Comments

The Fans Forum group took some initiative after our eighth defeat on the trot on May 2nd, and they asked to have a Fans Forum meeting so they could talk about the crisis hitting Newcastle, as we looked like we could be relegated after being outclassed at Leicester City and hammered 3-0 – and had two players sent off – Mike Williamson and Daryl Janmaat.

Lee Charnley – needs to call Fans Forum meeting

Lee Charnley sent a reply back and said he would bring the next meeting forward and hold it before the end of the season.

Lee didn’t do that, but with Steve McClaren coming in as the new head coach this week maybe Steve could attend the meeting and meet with the fans’ representatives.

One thing Newcastle must do is get back into good communication with the fans – since it’s never been good since Mike came into the club – but it showed some signs of improving with the regular meetings of the Fans Forum throughout the season.

Steve McClaren  would even be willing to do that, as he would get an opportunity to put forward his vision for Newcastle over the next few years – and hopefully it will include going all out and try to win something.

So it would be good if Lee announces the next meeting and also apologize=e for not keeping his word and having the meeting before the end of the season.

If he wasn’t going to do that he should not have put that communication out publicly to the Fans Forum folks, who have shown great patience in waiting for another reply for the Managing Director.

It would be a great time to hold it say a week tomorrow, with Steve McClaren promising to also be present.

Comments welcome.

    McClaren could sign James McClean

  • 3 davis_toons // Jun 7, 2015 at 2:19 PM

So…I think it will be a job well done if Steve McClaren can keep us up next season…kudos to him.

  • 4 one fine day // Jun 7, 2015 at 2:28 PM

If Maclaren names Colocini in his first starting line up in the new season what will you opinion , be of Steve then .?
    Serious question.

Poppy man mcclean if he signs im out for good.

    On topic
Your asking for transparency from the current regime here ….?..?..
Anyways… Back to the real world

  • 7 albertluque92 // Jun 7, 2015 at 2:37 PM

The potential of ayew and berardi on our wings with austin up front would be easily enough for top 10 as long as a solid centre back is also signed (Matip?), though every single schalke defender is being linked with a move away

  • 8 one fine day // Jun 7, 2015 at 2:37 PM

Scout we could sign him and when we realise he is shit … Send him out on loan. ….. To Glasgow rangers 🙂

  • 9 Our Toon // Jun 7, 2015 at 2:40 PM

You are probably right match goers as you put it will prefer Colback more. Tell me why is it West Ham and NUFC were the only ones after Jack especially considering he was on a free and he’s British something all clubs want to reach the correct quota for the Prem league rule? Do scouts not attend games anymore?

  • 10 Our Toon // Jun 7, 2015 at 2:43 PM

    One fine day

I’ve always said that about Colback, decent squad player but should never be a starter for us as we should have better quality for his position. A poor man’s Joe Allen is what I call him, and I don’t rate Allen either.

He broke Tiote’s record for yellows in a league season didn’t he? Would have accepted him as good enough for the starting XI before Ashley came?

  • 11 scout // Jun 7, 2015 at 2:49 PM

    One fine day

Can i suggest you take over from LC what a plan.

  • 12 scout // Jun 7, 2015 at 2:51 PM

If SM comes in he needs the players. If they aren’t signed we cant blame mcclaren.

  • 13 one fine day // Jun 7, 2015 at 2:55 PM

    Our toon
I think we can pretty much say not one player currently would be in the starting 11 pre Ashley.
    Different times.
So who out the current squad would you play in his role other than abeid ( coaches seem to hate him ) , tiote. (Injured and a liability when off form)?
Colback was only doing what his coach was asking him to do .
Even then he tried to get forward and weigh in with goals .
Pretty much every player under performed last year under Pardue/carver

  • 14 mickalfas // Jun 7, 2015 at 2:57 PM

Is McLaren nailed on ,or are we speculating ?
Could be a nice surprise !!
De Boer with a £200m transfer fund (lol)

  • 20 tequilamag // Jun 7, 2015 at 3:38 PM

OT@ 10 Colback also scored more goals and had more assists than any other midfield player.
I can`t get my head round why people slate an honest player who plays to the limits of his ability and give a free pass to players like Cabella who are all show and no end product

  • 21 bobby mango // Jun 7, 2015 at 3:41 PM

Forget about McClaren being in it. It’s unfair to launch him straight into that and I could predict the answers he’d give to any questions right now.

A meeting needs to be held immediately. First question – why did we get the meeting before the end of the season as promised?

  • 22 Bambams // Jun 7, 2015 at 3:49 PM

    Thanks for that fella

  • 23 scout // Jun 7, 2015 at 3:57 PM

Might as well scrap it off

  • 24 scout // Jun 7, 2015 at 3:59 PM

  • 25 jesperfuglsang - capt'n awesome of the lemon crew // Jun 7, 2015 at 4:00 PM

Tequila…I think it’s the limits ppl are pointing out you are just taking it all to personal!

Colback might have gotten more goals or assists than any other player in our midfield, but doesn’t that say something about our team and the way we play?

I seem to remember he’s also the player that got the most games?

  • 26 scout // Jun 7, 2015 at 4:02 PM

People harp on about communication with the fans….. how about some commited performances from the 11 lads on the pitch for a start. Then you wouldn’t need your little tea and biscuit party.

  • 27 tequilamag // Jun 7, 2015 at 4:05 PM

Jesper it is hardly personal ? I don`t really care what other people think about a player.
I just think he is very under-rated and surely the fact he played a lot of games should be considered a good thing when you consider how many players were on the treatment table most of the season.
Out of an otherwise awful season Colback was one of the positives

  • 28 ToonFromLeeds // Jun 7, 2015 at 4:05 PM

Jack Colback is Positive is anyone else?

  • 29 Our Toon // Jun 7, 2015 at 4:06 PM

Colback was in charge of all free kicks and some corners pre Raylor inroduction into the team….how many assists did he get from open play?

He scored 3 goals I think in the league, for a box to box midfielder you may consider that as good but compare him to others that play that role and you’ll find its pretty mediocre!!

Like i say I believe he should be nothing more than a squad player rather than a starter, Cabella shouldn’t be anywhere near the starting XI, agree with you he has no end product but worst of all he slows down attacks. I always find it funny when the highest praise someone gets is that they are an honest player, basically that means he’s shite but gives 100%

  • 30 check the toastie // Jun 7, 2015 at 4:09 PM

Pardew did alright in some peoples eyes and is now ‘seen’ within football as some sort of Crystal Palace Messiah. He came from serially being sacked from numerous jobs, he will get sacked next year from Palace he is utter shit.

Maclaren is a major step up in terms of experience and success in relation to Parsnip. If he brings his own staff in we start next season in a much better position than the last in my eyes. However he has the potential to be an utter nightmare ala Pards…

  • 31 tequilamag // Jun 7, 2015 at 4:10 PM

OT He got 4 goals which was 3 more than Cabella and 6 assists Not bad for a defensive midfielder and he took some free kicks but not all by a long stretch.
If more of the glamorous players showed the same desire we would not have been kicking around with the dead men.

  • 32 Lee Charnley Bunga Party // Jun 7, 2015 at 4:12 PM

Brady would be a good squad addition an upgrade on Raylor and Jonas

He has amazing crossing ability and if we were to have Austin , Cisse and Perez in various games to feed on his crosses that would be awesome too many times last season we would get into a decent position to be let down by the final ball

He can also take a corner and a free kick but not for 12 million !! More like 4 or 5 million

My only worry with the TV money is every team will ask for inflated prices for players which seeing as our limit seems to be between 9 and 12 million for a player we might struggle to get anyone decent in …..

  • 33 Our Toon // Jun 7, 2015 at 4:16 PM

This season Colback was your positive in a somewhat dismal season, last season it seems as though most thought willo was a positive in a somewhat dismal season….12 months on and most if not all want willo gone!!

  • 34 Our Toon // Jun 7, 2015 at 4:22 PM

I have no idea why you keep mentioning Cabella to me, I don’t rate Cabella at all, so comparing colback to him makes no sense. As for Colback being a “defensive midfielder” you need to know how to win the ball if you are a DM, he lost more challanges than he won. To me Colback is supposed to play the box to box midfielder role.

To be a defensive midfielder your job is to protect the back 4 not to go off chasing the opposition player in the opposing half and leaving huge gaps for opposing teams to run into. If we pressed as a team colback would be more effective, but we don’t press as a team, he presses as an individual. Like I say he’s a squad player at best and shouldn’t be in the starting XI.

It’s an area which I believe needs strengthening!! Pretty much the whole squad needs an overhaul!!

  • 35 tequilamag // Jun 7, 2015 at 4:23 PM

OT I get your point and I am not looking to start a Jack Colback appreciation society There are very few positions well none that could not be improved including Colback.
My priorrties would be in defence and attack though rather than starting with one of our better players last season.

  • 36 tequilamag // Jun 7, 2015 at 4:25 PM

Easy Tiger, only mentioned Cabella to compare the end product of an offensive player that had not produced and a defensive player who had. Never said you had a man crush for him

  • 37 Our Toon // Jun 7, 2015 at 4:28 PM

That’s my point though mate, Colback is very limited in the role he plays, a box to box midfielder need to be scoring more goals as well as having a better passing range. Willo needs improving on voted on this blog as the best player last season, doesn’t mean he deserved to start games and didn’t need replacing for this season!!

Just my opinion and I respect yours buddy but we need to strengthen the core spine of the team including Colbacks position as he would only get a game for 3 maybe 4 premier league teams as a starter, 3 of those would be the promoted teams!!

  • 38 Our Toon // Jun 7, 2015 at 4:30 PM

Cabella did have the highest chance creation per mins played of any player in the premier league at the halfway point. Not sure where he finished up but stats don’t always tell the full story!!

I am bothered about the Fans Forum as it is an indication of the responsibility the club has towards the fans and not just a one way relationship. Then again I also believed a progressive and modern Head Coach would have at least been interview for the post at NUFC and that didn’t happen either.

  • 43 canuckmag // Jun 7, 2015 at 5:11 PM

Unbelievable if you stop and think about it. A 70 year old scout who achieved nothing in the game, and a promoted filing clerk (no disrespect to filing clerks) pick the players. And back room staff. A trophy winning ex England manager, has no say and can’t even pick his own coaches. It just couldn’t happen in any other business, sport or football club. The worst thing about it all really is that Mclaren will accept it and take the job, shame on him, and even worse the local fans and media are beginning to accept it shame on them….

  • 44 ToonFromLeeds // Jun 7, 2015 at 5:14 PM

    LCBP I’d take him

  • 45 Macas // Jun 7, 2015 at 5:26 PM

canuckmag – What exactly did Carr need to achieve in the game to make him a good scout? I didn’t see criticism of him a couple of years ago, exactly the opposite in fact. he has made some great signings, and also a few poor ones, but not every scout will get it right all the time. You have to bear in mind we have been severely limited by the transfer policy at the club

  • 46 Lee Charnley Bunga Party // Jun 7, 2015 at 5:27 PM

I am kind of hoping the reason its taking so long to announce Mclaren is that he is seeking assurances on playing staff and most importantly coaching staff how can Carver go back to being a no 2 after all thats went on ?!?

If he really feels its time to be a manager he has proved that he is not ready to manage a premiership team so he needs to go find his level which is probably Vauxhall conference or Unibond leagues….

Stated in January squad was strong enough 2 months later was saying its nowhere near good enough what a plumb !!

  • 51 Lee Charnley Bunga Party // Jun 7, 2015 at 5:44 PM

Its hard to judge Carrs signings when Carver and Pardew have been coaching them over the last 4 years

We have bought players used to playing the ball on the deck and attacking teams then those 2 dummies have just said park the bus at home against teams and launch it long is it any wonder why they have looked poor ??

Would like to see how the likes of Cabella , Anita and the rest of the ones who are criticised fair after a pre season being coached by Mclaren seeing as Ferguson and the treble winning Man Utd team all rate him

The guy is a winner in that he has been involved in winning things as a coach and a manager not like Pardew and Carver who say they are winners but have never won anything in their careers !!!

  • 52 Belfast // Jun 7, 2015 at 5:46 PM

    Hej Jesper Din dumme idiot.

  • 53 Lilongwe Geordie // Jun 7, 2015 at 5:55 PM

Carr, probably a very good scout that has been put into a position where he has more responsibility then he knows how to handle, or is capable of handling.

Colback, probably our best midfielder this season, but that is more a very damming indictment of our other midfielders than a statement of his ability. If we want to move forward he is a sub, a starter for a bottom half club.

  • 54 Lilongwe Geordie // Jun 7, 2015 at 5:58 PM

As for the fans forum, fromthw clubs perspective it is a harrassment that they have to endure and stage. From what I have heard much of it is managed.

Is there really any point to it? It isn’t really dialogue with the fans, other than in the most literal sense. Other than when they said they had conducted research into cups being bad for survival, what have they told us?

What has happened with the training ground plans? The work was scheduled to start last month.

  • 56 ronaldo aarons // Jun 7, 2015 at 6:13 PM

I’m not saying colback is good or bad but in most of our games this year he played with Sissoko in a 4231. With Sissoko being given the more freedom to get forward. Box to box if you like. Colback was the one who had to stay back the majority of the time so I don’t see how he was supposed to be the box to box player some people say he was. I stress the fact that I say most games, not all as I don’t want to open up that debate again. If you were to compare his stats to anyone it would be sissokos and I would guess colback performed better in the end product department.

  • 60 Our Toon // Jun 7, 2015 at 6:38 PM

It’s hard to judge Carr or the signings that we make from his recommendations, the first couple of years we were linked with and made daft bids for some really good players, now we seem to look at shite and buy shite!!

Could this be because Carr has been given a remit for the type of value we should be looking at when scouting players?

Could it be that we sign 5th to 10th players on carrs list of recommended players. By low balling teams with ridiculous offers we end up with the likes of Riviere and now and then we get a Perez? Young talent!!

  • 61 Our Toon // Jun 7, 2015 at 6:39 PM

  • 63 Our Toon // Jun 7, 2015 at 6:41 PM

Whilst fingers are pointed at Carr for recruitment etc….its becoming more and more apparent to me that Carver is having a say in they type of players that leave and come in….buy British was something Carver amd pardew waffled on about and it seems as though that’s why we are going English in manager and British for players!!

  • 64 Toonhound // Jun 7, 2015 at 6:45 PM

McLaren has not been appointed although it seems a cert. What hacks me off is that the Club are happy to squander so much time and the fans left to speculate. Why is McLaren even on holiday if we are led to believe he is about to be appointed!

You say “….its becoming more and more apparent to me that Carver is having a say in the type of players that leave and come in…”

You also say it was just West Ham and Newcastle who wanted Colback.

How do you get to such conclusions?

  • 67 canuckmag // Jun 7, 2015 at 6:51 PM

Not questioning the scouting ability of Carr, I am questioning the set up where it seems that Carr and Charnley pick the players and the coaching staff then tell the Manager/head coach, here you go make something out of these. Surely the Head Coach should be saying I want to play a certain style of football and in order to do so I need a certain caliber of player and a back room staff to help me achieve that.

Colback and his agent as well as pretty much all media outlets stated it was nufc and west ham!! As you say though only those attending the games get to see what Colback is really about, silly scouts should try to attend more games rather than watch on TV like the armchair fans!!

Abeid isn’t liked by Carver who wants to see the back of him, Carver sees him as a bad apple that is to opinionated, club are happy to oblige with the lad being told as much before he went away for close season. Straight from the horses mouth, when he joined the club he needed to learn English, his tutor attends the mosque which Abeid attends now and then but he is in no way devout. British is something that has been drilled into the regime as an excuse for under performances, British is the route we will try to go down, it’s another reason why I believe Carver is having a say…..Add to that Carver stating as much that he sits in on transfer target meetings.

Apparently colback signed for us for less money than he was offered at WH, he had apparently agreed to join Westhampnett verbally before making a uturn in his decision, this could all be bollocks but I distinctly remember all this being played out in the media at the time….but hey blackley must be right he was there and he sees what other scouts don’t see because he isn’t an armchair fan, he’s apparently a true fan because he goes to games and knows just how good Colback is.

You must have seen something in colback that no other PL team saw, he must have been to much of a financial risk for teams, British on a free and next to nothing in regards to wages compared to others available in the summer that were British….yet only us and WH showed any real interest!!

  • 98 Blackley and Brownlie // Jun 7, 2015 at 8:32 PM

Note Blackley wasn’t making any claims to know anything. Everything was followed by question marks. That’s the point. You seem to draw firm conclusions based on hearsay, media outlets, speculation, tea leaves …

  • 99 Sleepin Giant // Jun 7, 2015 at 8:32 PM

Please don’t start posting and addressing yourself in the third person. It is very creepy and has some dodgy psychological stuff behind it.

And yes – I think Stevie Mac might do very well and is at least a step up from AP tactically and in playing style.

  • 100 Blackley and Brownlie // Jun 7, 2015 at 8:35 PM

How do you know that no other clubs were interested in Colback? How do you know his agent hadn’t just told them he’s only interested in moving to NUFC?

  • 101 Blackley and Brownlie // Jun 7, 2015 at 8:42 PM

Please dint take any notice of Sleepin Giant who talks shyte.

Third-person self referral can be associated with self-irony and not taking oneself too seriously (since the excessive use of preposition “I” is a common sign of narcissism and egocentrism).

  • 105 beermonkey // Jun 7, 2015 at 8:51 PM

if it is to be McLaren he has to be allowed to bring in whom he wants to work with,

pardew bought in carver and co but it all went down hill for all of them when they got 8 year deals
even under pards you could see our coaching is well behind others in the league
and is a real reason why we need a football man in the dof role at the club as there is no1 at the club to address these problems

I saw rumour McLaren is gonna get a 4 year deal why not 3 with an option if things are going well
have the club not learnt anything from the 8 year contract debacle

I really think the only thing holding up an announcement is signings I don’t think they can get players over the line

  • 106 Blackley and Brownlie // Jun 7, 2015 at 8:52 PM

Let me remind you what you asked.

“Tell me why is it West Ham and NUFC were the only ones after Jack especially considering he was on a free and he’s British something all clubs want to reach the correct quota for the Prem league rule?”

First, I don’t claim to know that no other clubs were interested in Colback. You do. Second, even if only NUFC were interested, I am simply giving you a good reason as to why. I’m not saying it is the reason, but it’s every bit as valid as your wild speculation on which you base your firm conclusions.

  • 107 Blackley and Brownlie // Jun 7, 2015 at 8:55 PM

My post was not even addressed to you, but in your case Old Blackley., anyone reading your posts can’t but know it is pure narcissism with all the negative issues that raises.

I don’t know what your shirnk makes of it though – it might be the least of your personality disorders

    Polar Pokat,
    Where you going ?

  • 111 Our Toon // Jun 7, 2015 at 9:06 PM

I’ve already answered that Colback question, the only 2 teams that offered colback a contract were WH and NUFC, Fat Sham also talked about it pre season!! When 1 outlet reports something it’s bollocks, when multiple sources report something it means it has legs!!

Was Fat Sham lying about offering the lad a contract? Why would he do that? If the agent wanted more money from nufc why would he only use WH in the negotiations as you seem to claim when he could use a couple of teams?

  • 112 Pokat // Jun 7, 2015 at 9:10 PM

    Blackley no, not yet.

Jail. It’s not where I’m going it’s where I came from ha ha.

  • 113 lochinvar // Jun 7, 2015 at 9:12 PM

Who says McLaren has been appointed – certainly not the club ….yet.
Maybe he’s thinking about the first ‘phone call he has to make if and when he turns up after his holiday..
” Is that you Stone, put me on to Carver when we’ve finished talking”
That would be poetic justice for Taylor and Jonas.

  • 114 Our Toon // Jun 7, 2015 at 9:12 PM

You said “Matchgoers will appreciate Colback more than tv viewers will”

Why did other scouts not pick up on this free agent and offer him a contract and why would his agent only use WH as the only other club to have put in a firm offer?

Colback was supposed to sign but the deal was delayed by a couple of weeks with apparently the club trying to sell Colback to WH as he had a change of heart, I don’t know for certain if this happened but it’s what was widely reported at the time. Blackley you know more the journos and Fat Sham any comment?

  • 115 Rotonda heights // Jun 7, 2015 at 9:13 PM

sadly none of the other more credible candidates were allowed to bring ther own people in.

It’s shocking carver is still here, as in his own words anywhere else he would have been fired. but SM has apparently sold out and let JC remain

  • 116 Our Toon // Jun 7, 2015 at 9:16 PM

Season ticket renewal deadline is until the 10th so we may delay the decision of Mc until after then.

  • 117 Our Toon // Jun 7, 2015 at 9:17 PM

I was surprised that Carver was allowed to stay but he pretty much threw the players under the bus to save himself.

  • 118 beermonkey // Jun 7, 2015 at 9:22 PM

I cant believe they haven’t been paid off

carver has already shown how he thinks he is not to blame
so I expect him to do all he can to undermine and stab in the back McLaren the first chance he gets

so much needs to be sorted at the club
they need to make peace with shearer, would love to see him doing some coaching and ambassadorial work for the club
can you imagine him meeting prospective strikers were trying to sign he is the prem league top goal scorer

Jail, I’ve been conducting a shocking experiment in blog skulduggery that has plagued us all over the years – the alter ego. Pokat doesn’t exist. I created an alternate poster in time honoured fashion to see if it was in fact that easy to influence blog opinion by turning up as someone else. Also to escape being pigeonholed by aggressive blog wums and the aforesaid shape shifters as being part of an established ‘gang’. All the while I gave plenty of clues though.

  • 126 toonbrother // Jun 7, 2015 at 10:25 PM

    @one fine day
i cannot envisage such a scenario (unless mclaren gets a lobotomy )
If you love NUFC you would petition LC to let Colo go back to argentina
Pay San Lorenzo to take him off our hands if necessary
We need to start afresh with Sissoko as the new captain

  • 127 Blackley and Brownlie // Jun 7, 2015 at 10:35 PM

What are you not getting? I’m not saying West Ham didn’t offer him a contract. My point is that many clubs might have been interested. You’re confident they weren’t. It’s not me who’s making any claims (although you’re accusing me of it). It’s you. Based on wild speculation and media outlets. How do you know there weren’t a dozen clubs interested?

You could look at any of our players and say no other club wanted them like NUFC did. However, in the case of Colback, NUFC is his home town club.

  • 134 isleofmanman // Jun 8, 2015 at 2:33 PM

Charnley is forever a bag carrier and no doubt an unwarranted survivor as much as Carver is.
A pairing made in heaven. Not.
