Newcastle Can Do Better Than This Striker

10:43 pm, Sunday, June 7th, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 20 Comments

There are reports tonight that Newcastle are interested in Crystal Palace striker 25 year-old Dwight Gale who joined Palace two years ago from Peterborough United for a sizable £4.5M fee.

It’s the first time we’ve been linked with this player who scored 5 Premier League goals in 25 appearances last season and 7 goals in 23 appearances in his first season at Palace.

Dwight Gayle – 25 year-old Crystal Palace striker

And the news is that Crystal Palace have put a £10M price-tag on their striker, and we suppose they are hoping some Premier League club (very) flush with cash from the big payouts at the end of the season will pay that amount for a player who seems to be a mediocre striker.

The Walthamstow-born striker has played a total of 55 games for Palace over the last two seasons and scored 18 goals in all competitions, but Newcastle have been linked with more prolific strikers than Gayle, including what seems to be our top target – Charlie Austin.

Apparently Bournemouth have bid £6M for Gayle, but we;d be very surprised if Newcastle are really after this player .

Of course one of the problems Newcastle will likely have this season is being able to attract our top targets, after a miserable last three seasons, and in two of them we have fought against relegation and just scraped by last season finishing 6th bottom in 15th place.

25 year-old Charlie Austin had a great season for QPR and scored 18 Premier League goals in 35 appearances for a struggling QPR last season.

The other Premier League clubs after Charlie include Southampton, West Ham and Aston Villa, so Newcastle have some significant competition, and QPR Director of Football Les Ferdinand wants £15M for his star player.

Austin could be worth that amount to Newcastle, who must sign a recognized Premier League striker this summer – that’s one of the priorities along with a top center-back.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

Oh imagine the irony of palarce landing Austin and us acquiring Gayle.

I’d personally shoot penfold and Carr. Then torture fatty. Slowly.

I was getting sick of that guy. He was just a bit too provocative 🙂

Don’t worry. Gayle’s not a pound for pounder at that price.

James MaClean huh, mmmm ok, you might imagine that we might pick up up a couple of capable players from the Championship once MaClaren settles in. players like MaClean and Gayle have their place so long as they know their role and will run around no matter what, but of course we primarily need three or four players in key positions of better quality.

John. Go look for a HC job. Are you a man or a mouse? Surely the best in the league can walk into a job?

Are we really after Gayle? Could it not be a case of Pardew wants rid of him and has tickled the media to help market the lad.

However, Pardew’s forgotten that he’s no longer at Newcastle United and owes the Club nothing. That being so, he should forget about trying to tempt Charnley to spend a few quid on another pup.

We know we all loved Pardew to bits for all the good things he brought to the Club, but he should try remember that the romance is over and we’ll have to struggle by without him.

DON’T MAKE ME LAUGH AT THE END OF THIS DAY !

    Gale ??? really lol

It wasn’t supposed to last that long. It all began when a couple of well known shape shifters sparked up around Pardew leaving and it all started to get a bit nasty. Well nastier than usual. I had an exchange with one wum where I feared a relegation scrap back in February. I got some stick as did many others, so I thought right – it’s the wum game eh? So I decided to fight fire with fire and be an independent anti- wum er.. wum I suppose. 🙂 a few lots here. A couple of ha ha’s there and definitely no smileys 😀 and a bit more aggression and it was weird to see the blog bung holes shrivel up and back off.

Sad thing is it proves this blog is easily littered with multiple posters I don’t suppose it will change, but if you can’t beat them.. . Be them 🙂

Who says McLaren has been appointed – certainly not the club ….yet.
Maybe he’s thinking about the first ‘phone call he has to make if and when he turns up after his holiday..
” Is that you Stone, put me on to Carver when we’ve finished talking”
That would be poetic justice for Taylor and Jonas.

    Blackley

You claimed only those attending games would know the real qualities of colback rather than those sitting at home. I’ll repeat for the umpteenth time….If he was so good why did he only have 2 offers on the table? If other clubs were interested in colback they never came to the negotiating table why is that. What did scouts miss that you see weekly!!

Don’t give me that BS of boyhood club etc either, many score against boyhood clubs and show respect, they either don’t celebrate or even if they do its very minimal, Ronaldo scored against Sporting Lisbon and he put his hands together to apologise to the fans, Colback scored against his boyhood club and told 52k to shut up. That’s how much his boyhood club means to him!!

Is he? I don’t know. 26 now, had something at Sunderland, an international, works hard, might have something to offer the squad, The point really is that balance of quality, character and cover in a squad of 25.

If its to be McClaren, they can start to win me over by announcing Clarkie as his no.2 and Charlie Austin signed at the first press conference. If not, then Mashley can shove his fake promises where its not sunny. Same goes for Charmless and his fans’ forum before the season ends. These con artists lie for a living.

I guess I am in the minority but actually think Gayle is a quality player the number seems a little inflated but think he is definitely quality and has loads of pace I sure wouldn’t mind seeing young English lads like him and Ince thrown into our team or Rhodes for that matter

Here I’ve just got back from holiday and spotted our new gaffer whilst having a family tea out. He said he’s being confirmed as our head coach as soon as he gets back. Said he’s identified 5 key players he and Carr want to bring in. Also said that 3 of them will be signed within 1 week of his term starting and that they are big named players. Watch this space. He’s actually a sound bloke. Really down to earth. Not sackless like I thought.
