Are Newcastle After Loic Remy?

9:17 am, Monday, June 8th, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 89 Comments

It’s probably a sign of the times that Newcastle are not one of the clubs going after Chelsea’s Loic Remy, who has decided after winning a Premier League title and the League Cup in his first season at Stamford Bridge that we wants to get more playing time at another club.

loic remy goalscorer

Loic Remy – not interested in Newcastle?

Newcastle went after Loic Remy last summer after he had spent the season on loan with us from QPR, but it became clear that he just didn’t want to sign for us.

One reason for that was Newcastle selling Yohan Cabaye a year last January – ambitious clubs don’t sell their best players half way through the season and nor replace them.

So it was difficult to sign him last summer and he was almost signed by Liverpool but failed his medical there and now clubs like Swansea, Southampton and Crystal Palace are interested in signing French International striker.

Swansea and Southampton finished above Newcastle last season, and that’s one reason we have to get back into the big time next season and try for a top eight position in the league.

If we are do that we have to sign some top players this summer.

The 28-year-old striker is said to be on £80K/week at Chelsea, but with the big money available to Premier League clubs these days, that should not be a deterrent – although it may be to Newcastle.

It’s also entirely possible that it was made abundantly clear by the striker last summer that he didn’t want to come to Newcastle, and we don’t want to waste the summer going after him and failing to get him, which is essentially what happened last summer.

That’s maybe while we will not bother this summer with Remy and go after other strikers – such as 25 year-old Charlie Austin and 21 year-old Patrick Bamford, and that also helps with recruiting more Englishmen to the Newcastle squad.

What do you think?

Can you imagine Remy and Cabaye at CP, Rotunda and catchy would be leaping off their respective local high bridges.

    repost;

JFA- A gambler of the cheapest kind. He only gambles on him spending the bare minimum to make him win big.

To win big you have to spend big!.. any proper gambler knows that!

What Ashley is, it’s not a gambler but an arrogant, lying, greedy billionaire that only wants more and more money. That’s no gambler but a money hungry fool, that just happens to be a billionaire! Only Newcastle could have the misfortune of that happening.

  • 6 ganiyu // Jun 8, 2015 at 9:31 AM

Newcastle should try their best to get the signature of Danny ings or pay the 15 million pounds for charlie Austin.he is worth the gamble.

There’s no point going after the likes of Remy and cabaye who do not want to be here.

  • 7 firebug666 // Jun 8, 2015 at 9:31 AM

I have to say I have totally gave up with Newcastle now, we are always promised so much yet always receive so little, if anything at all.

The fans forum were promised a meeting that never materialised, and the fans in general promised big changes that would see us being more competitive.

But when you omit the rubbish in the papers what exactly have the club said? Oh yeah that’s right….Nothing!

  • 8 JP...from The Rock // Jun 8, 2015 at 9:32 AM

On Remy I think it’s just lies lies and more lies, though the mercenary would certainly beef up our strike force and has plenty of EPL experience.

  • 9 Blackley and Brownlie // Jun 8, 2015 at 9:35 AM

Bamford and Remy don’t represent good value pound for pound.

Two from six are odds he will like and it’s a win win for everyone in my opinion

  • 14 The overrated Frenchman // Jun 8, 2015 at 10:04 AM

Remy has seen at first hand what a tin-pot operation NUFC is. Unless he was offered ridiculous money there’s no way he’d be back. A supposedly “big” club basically being run by Mike Ashley, Lee Charnley and Graham Carr? You’re having a laugh. Might as well be the Marx Brothers…

  • 15 DicBDownUnder // Jun 8, 2015 at 10:04 AM

Ed’s churning ’em out so quick, it would now appear English is his second language. So many mistakes.

I’m also sick of reading when the manager will be announced. Do you have a mystic ball Ed? Because if you do, it doesn’t work. Last week you said, he will be announced at the end of the week, then at the end of last week it was the start of this week, now it’s ”probably Wednesday”. Why not just leave it out, you have no more of an idea about it than Tom, Me or ‘Arry.

    Next thread….

If Hull ask for too much with Robertson, then our alternative should be Luke Garbutt who’s on a free, English and bags of potential.

We should try and steal Virgil van Dijk from under the mackems noses as well

  • 17 Sav // Jun 8, 2015 at 10:08 AM

Cudda been a relegation-fighting hero like Jonas but Remy threw it all away for baubles like the Premiership title and a League Cup….he must rue the day he turned his back on Mike Ashley’s Toon.

  • 20 The overrated Frenchman // Jun 8, 2015 at 10:23 AM

I don’t believe we’ll sign a single player who is actually wanted by any other Premier League team. Any decent player who has a choice would surely go anywhere else rather than descending into the sewer that has become Newcastle United, and having to associate with all the rats the club has attracted.

  • 21 Rotonda heights // Jun 8, 2015 at 10:25 AM

strange headline which you yourself contradicted immediately Ed!

  • 22 Blackley and Brownlie // Jun 8, 2015 at 10:38 AM

    OurToon
On Jack Colback. Your theory that Colback wasn’t in demand because, according to media outlets, only West Ham and Newcastle were at the negotiating table. Look at Ings who may well be off to Liverpool. Just because Newcastle and a whole host of other clubs are not at the negotiating table for him does not mean he’s not a good player.

  • 23 Blackley and Brownlie // Jun 8, 2015 at 10:40 AM

From what I saw of the Forest lads last season we may have bought a couple of cheap duds to clog up the roster.

  • 24 NezzaNUFC // Jun 8, 2015 at 10:43 AM

Why are we being linked with players we haven’t even approached and won’t approach?

Championship players we will be linked with because we are getting a Championship manager.

I said Ayew won’t come because of wages.

I said Austin won’t come because of valuation.

I said Ings won’t come because a better club will offer him more ambition.

    Need I go on?

  • 25 geordie157 // Jun 8, 2015 at 10:45 AM

If we want Austin we need to get him asap, think 12mill with add ons will be enough.

If we don’t end up with him, it will be interesting to see who we go after. Not sure how much he’s worth but Alberto Paloschi would be worth a look.

Don’t really want players like Dost and definitely don’t want Gayle!

  • 26 geordie157 // Jun 8, 2015 at 10:47 AM

JamesToon, I know a couple of Everton fans and they rate garbutt very highly, the general opinion is he will become better than Baines and needs signing up long term. He’d be a great signing and we’d have a left back who can cross too!!

    CB: Taylor/Lascelles
    CB: van Dijk/Dummett
    LB: Garbutt/Haidara

    CM: Sissoko/De Jong
    DM: Tiote/Anita
    CM: Colback/Hughes

    RW: Aarons/Ameobi
    CF: Austin/Perez/Carroll
    LW: Phillips/Cabella

Solid top 10, within our finances. Those are players who i think would give it their all. Finished product players mixed with potential

  • 44 BandB // Jun 8, 2015 at 11:18 AM

The club appeals to season ticket holders not to desert them.

“We would urge every Newcastle United supporter to stick with us because they are vital to taking the club forward in the future and putting the disappointments of the last few months behind us.
“Yes, mistakes have been made this season but the board remains fully committed to re-establishing Newcastle United as one of the leading teams in the Premier League.
“I know how much you enjoyed seeing the club challenging at the top end of the table and competing in Europe on a regular basis and we all want to see that again.”
“It may take a little time to achieve, but your continued support will be crucial in helping us get there.”

  • 45 Blackley and Brownlie // Jun 8, 2015 at 11:22 AM

The club could start be apologising to the Fans Forum with a full explanation. The nerve of it.

  • 46 BandB // Jun 8, 2015 at 11:22 AM

You’ve got to admit, that’s a strong statement that fills you with hope and optimism that they really do mean business.

  • 47 ToonFromLeeds // Jun 8, 2015 at 11:22 AM

B&B as if the club believe the fans will swallow that rhetoric

  • 48 BandB // Jun 8, 2015 at 11:26 AM

    Toon Fron Leeds.

We’ve got to give them a chance though.
I mean, that statement of intent couldn’t be clearer.
They just need time to put the plan into action.
Why be negative in the meantime?

  • 49 NezzaNUFC // Jun 8, 2015 at 11:27 AM

    BandB

Doesn’t Newcastle make this statement every season?

SM as head coach alone proves we are not moving forward and with Carver staying on again shows we are stepping sideways and not forward.

  • 50 barkel // Jun 8, 2015 at 11:33 AM

I think the negativity is based on the previous 8 years. If the club want fans to stick with them they need to take action. It’s all well & good saying that they want to challenge but so far the only thing we’ve seen is we’ve released six players with Ameobi a possibility of going also. Pardew left on 2nd of Jan and we still don’t have a new HC.

If they want our support give us something to support!

    HWTF

  • 51 Graeme // Jun 8, 2015 at 11:33 AM

    BandB @ 48

But, haven’t they had EIGHT Years to put their 5 year plan into action?? The results of this plan don’t look very convincing to me!!

  • 52 BandB // Jun 8, 2015 at 11:37 AM

I think in terms of actual promises it puts quite a lot of meat on the bones of the quite vague statement Mike Ashley made two weeks ago. Much more to feel positive about in it!

  • 53 barkel // Jun 8, 2015 at 11:43 AM

    BandB

I wish I had your optimism! Fair play to you, unfortunately I’ve become a bit of a cynic with regards to the goings on at the Toon. I really do hope you’re right but I wouldn’t put my money on it

  • 54 NezzaNUFC // Jun 8, 2015 at 11:47 AM

    BandB

If you read between the lines of the statement you will see the true judgement –

“We would urge every Newcastle United supporter to stick with us because they are vital to taking the club forward in the future and putting the disappointments of the last few months behind us.

( lies upon lies every season, desperation in this sentence, also they state disappointments in the last few months? what about the last 8 years? )

“Yes, mistakes have been made this season but the board remains fully committed to re-establishing Newcastle United as one of the leading teams in the Premier League.

( basic tactics to get what the fans want to hear, nothing new )

“I know how much you enjoyed seeing the club challenging at the top end of the table and competing in Europe on a regular basis and we all want to see that again.”

( trying to elaborate on our views, the club panicked when Pardew got us 5th and openly stated cup runs are NOT important)

“It may take a little time to achieve, but your continued support will be crucial in helping us get there.”

( This meaning that it will never happen, again only stating what the fans want to hear )

  • 55 NezzaNUFC // Jun 8, 2015 at 11:52 AM

Also if you combine to together

“I know how much you enjoyed seeing the club challenging at the top end of the table and competing in Europe on a regular basis and we all want to see that again.”

“It may take a little time to achieve, but your continued support will be crucial in helping us get there.”

Then why oh why would Newcastle appoint ( or going to ) a Championship manager ( McClaren ) and keep Carver, Stone & Woodman on as coaches?

Like Iv’e said many times before you can’t have a successful business with a poor manager in charge!

  • 56 mickalfas // Jun 8, 2015 at 11:54 AM

Sick to death of hearing of players who have too much ambition to come to NUFC
Its absolute bullsiht, they are all a set of money hungry tawts
    Ambition=MONEY
Ashley wants to pay as little as possible in wages,THIS is the problem
Remy could have been a hero here, but its better for him to get double bubble playing for Chelsea ,or should I say watching Chelsea’s first choice striker
Nothing has changed here ,until its done and dusted contracts signed etc
We have a load of players ,like new signings Aarons ,de jong, marveaux, vukcic,
    Action needed now !!

  • 57 Pop n Wyn // Jun 8, 2015 at 11:55 AM

Loic Remy, after another payday, and his agent gets another sweetner and a very canny one at that, fight for your place at Chelsea if you think you are good enough, a good player no doubt, but a greedy selfish one as well.

Paul dummet is not a center back by standards. He isn’t reliable on defending set pieces the same with taylor coloccini and Williamson. If an offer comes in for any of them, Newcastle should not hesitate to sell.
The fact that we escaped relegation last season tells us that half of the players are below average.

    Season ticket renewals…

Back in the days of the season ticket waiting list and hanging about outside the ground at 2.55 waiting for a furtive black market golden ticket deal just to get in…at least the footy was exciting and worth searching for.
Anyone with a season ticket now should surely pick and choose the games? It saves you having to put with the same irritating gits you always have dotted around in the seats near you every fortnight.
But most importantly it gives you choice and the only power you have.
The club get up your nose – you don’t go. And neither do lots of others. Then the club have to change / win you back. Lets face it, at the moment you will be able to get into most games if you turn up on the day, you don’t need to buy a season ticket.

Unless you have little faith in the fans, why wouldn’t you feel more optimistic after the Ashley interview. Have we not still had enough all of a sudden, that we won’t kick off if he tries worm his way out of this. Surely he has little option but deliver, if he has any hope of making the club work for him now, and by deliver I mean decent football, top ten and runs at the cups.

  • 76 sing in the corner // Jun 8, 2015 at 12:52 PM

I have no problem with that. I suspect there aren’t many nowadays who would feel that way no matter what. No matter how bad it gets? Its a very expensive hobby now, and in modern times the consumer demands quality or he / she is more ready to kick up when being ‘conned’.
What i’m saying is its the obvious direct way to influence things individually

  • 77 mindshaft // Jun 8, 2015 at 12:53 PM

Newcastle may well sound him out but Remy will NOT come to the toon, he wants the bright lights of London and isn’t interested.
Clearly he would want to stay at Chelsea where he’s playing champions league, playing for the title, playing for a cup – let’s face it the odd game and sub appearance is way better than playing every game in a relegation battle

He won’t come to us now as we have no ambition and we won’t offer him the money he wants.

    What a pointless article

Oh how times have changed! 5-6 year ago I used to post on here how I thought the FCB would run this club (basically Asset strip to line his pockets) and was abused, intelligence questioned….. Etc etc
I won’t go on about it because being so right makes me feel good about me!! The abusers are probably too dense to remember….. Vindicated …. Some of you lot deservedly reap what ye sow….. Buy your season tickets keep lining his pockets and I’ll sit back and watch you whinge …. FOC
