Newcastle Think They Have Found Another Top Youngster

News today that Newcastle United are interested in 21 year-old Norwegian striker Veton Berisha, who currently plays for Viking in the Tippeligaen.

His parents are from Kosovo although Berisha was born in Egersund, Norway, and the youngster has played for all the Norwegian youth sides from U15 through U21 and Newcastle are said to be interested in signing the impressive youngster this summer.

Newcastle are said to think they can have the same success with Berisha that we had with Ayoze Perez last season.

Newcastle signed the then 20 year-old Perez from Tenerife for around £1.5M last summer, and Ayoze had a great first season for Newcastle scoring seven Premier League goals in 39 appearances for the Magpies.

Perez looks like he can become an excellent player at Newcastle and seems to love it on Tyneside.

Berisha signed on at Viking back in 2009, and made his first team debut in the same year against Hundvag, and since then he’s made 116 appearances with 25 goals but this seasons he’s been in very good form scoring 9 goals in only 13 appearances so far this term.

It just so happens that Berisha’s contract is up at the end of the month, and he will become a free agent at that time, although Newcastle will have to pay a compensation fee to Viking.

Newcastle are expected to bring a number of development players into the club this summer, and in fact Ayoze was signed for Peter Beardsley’s squad last summer, but he impressed immediately and ended up playing regularly for Newcastle, and finished second in our  Player of the Season poll to Daryl Janmaat, who we signed from Feyenoord last summer.

There’s very little risk in Newcastle signing 5’8″ tall Veton, and let’s hope we can get the lad on Tyneside this summer.
