McClaren Wants To Bring Hull City Winger To Newcastle

Sky Sports is reporting that both Newcastle and Derby County are interested in signing Hull City winger Tom Ince,

And that’s not surprising because Tom wasn’t doing much at Hull City and he went on loan to Derby County last February and scored 11 goals in just 18 games for Steve McClaren’s team last season.

Tom Ince _2014

Tom Ince – 23 year-old Hull winger

Ince still has one year left on his two year deal with Hull, after he joined them last year on a free transfer from Blackpool.

It’s not surprising Derby are interested in him, and with Steve McClaren now at Newcastle, it seems Steve McClaren is interested in bringing the 23 year-old to Newcastle.

However, the fee for Ince – with only one year left on his contract is thought to be around £4M – and that seems a bit much for a player who has never proved he can perform at the highest level – and played only 13 times for Hull with one goal last season before being shipped out to Derby.

Tom played very well for Steve last season at Derby, and the youngster could be persuaded to come to Newcastle – although the fact he didn’t make much headway for Hull in the first half of last season suggests he would be a risk at Newcastle.

But Steve McClaren has big money available this summer from Mike Ashley – by his own admission – and the owner has given the go ahead for the new Newcastle Board of Directors to start bringing new players into the club,  to significantly strengthen the squad.

Tom started his career at Liverpool before moving to Blackpool in 2011, where he spent three good seasons and in 113 games for the Seasiders he scored 33 goals and looked an impressive young player.

Newcastle have been interested in Tom for a few years now – so perhaps we can get the 18 times capped England U21 Intentional into the club this summer.

Can Steve McClaren Be Successful At Newcastle?

would take him for 3-4million – would rather have him and Aarons competing for the LW spot that Sammy, Gouffran or Obertan.

I am thinking loan with option to buy, simply because he has not proven himself at the top level, no matter how good he or his dad think he is. If aarons stays, id rather develop him anyway.

And on SMs chron interview, At least he seems positive and upbeat. And his intention seems to be on more attacking football, but not at the cost of results. So thats kind of reassuring.

It still depends on the backing.

A more likely purchase than Redmond for RW. Different style, plays more as a inside forward and is very good at curling shots in to the far corner from that side, many of his goals for Derby last season were like that and McClaren seems to be able to get the best out of him.

Him and Perez battling for the RWF position I wouldn’t mind seeing.

Not sure what went on at Hull, I watched nearly all their games last season and he began well then was inexplicably sent out on loan, Ramirez and Ben Arfa seen to be the finished product while he still needed work, which turned out to be a big mistake as those were both major flops for various reasons.

When you look at it like that, you can begin to understand his and his dad’s indignation. Full of promise, a decent start to the season, then supplanted for supposed more established players, without any real justification.

Another Counter-attacking player, fast over the ground and passes quickly.

Only has a year left on his deal, so they’re not gonna loan him to us.

Does somebody need to remind McClaren that he’s not in the Championship any more, so bringing all his Derby mates and targets with him is probably not going to cut it?

Ah well then i am not sure i’d risk him at all, then. Agree that Redmond would be a better call.

Hull only signed him on a 2 year deal? That’s very unusual, especially for a young player

Maybe they had doubts about his top-flight capabilities too, and did not want to be stuck long term if he didnt cut it. A shorter contract makes him easier to offload.

Think we might end up with a squad like Hull or Qpr if we’re not careful, doesn’t sound like aiming for top 8 with these kind of targets, should be looking at Holland rather than the championship

I’d be surprised if they do want to offload now seeing as they have now dropped down to his natural level. Personally wouldn’t touch any of Hulls squad if we want to strengthen

Well if the price is right he would be a good addition, much better than Obertan or Gouffran. McClaren seemed to get him playing some good football whilst at Derby & him & Aarons competing would be good.

I would be surprised if Derby would be willing to sell Hughes to us though, sure Clement would want to keep him & can’t imagine we are their favourite team at the moment.

Yeah they probably want to keep him now, but if they had stayed up and he hadn’t cut it, then they could have sold him to derby.

I’d like to see it. He’s done well for McClaren at Derby and seems the type that needs to find a manager that he’s compatible with and I could see McClaren’s hands-on coaching really bringing him on. Has raw ability, McClaren’s job is to take those types and make them the best they can be. If he’s seen something he likes whilst working with him and thinks he can get him to make the step up, I nor anybody else is really in a position to say otherwise.

Wouldn’t read much in to the 2-year contract, and definitely wouldn’t attribute that to Hull not been sure about the deal, more likely Ince and his dad calling the shots on that one.

If you look at that highlights reel of Ince I dont really remember Gouffran or Obertan scoring any goals like that for us …….

I think he would be a good squad player and we need depth in the wide areas would like us to get a Dutch winger as well so we can go 433

433 is deffo the way to go. SM likes it. Our current first 11 just about suits it, and with some decent aditions it would be perfect.

As I said, it was an obvious mistake on Bruce’s part, loaning him out after a decent first 3/4 PL appearances, in favour of the awful Ramirez and reluctant Ben Arfa. He looked bright and eager to do well, then Bruce’s eyes lit up and the chance to get bigger names in and allow him to leave on loan to develop. Most Hull fans were were scratching their heads early season, when he just disappeared from the squad after those first few starts.

We have always had the team for a 433 but for some reason never really play it would like to see Austin as the no 9 with Perez cutting in on the left hand side and someone like Ince or Townsend cutting in on the right hand side with De Jong just behind in the no 10 position

I liked him at Blackpool, seemed top class. Actually thought Matt Phillips was the better of the two though. Both seem to have been poor at premier league level though. 11 goals in the championship is a piece of piss, certainly doesn’t prove he can step up. Wouldn’t mind him as a squad player but wouldn’t want him holding back Aarons, good back up for right wing though

with all of this talk about good young prospects, what I would like to see is Ferguson given another chance to show what he can do. Along with some of the other youngsters on the books, why spend money when we may already have what we need?

Steve needs to have a look at the players that have come (are coming) through the academy.

I would have an injury free Andy Carroll back in a shot, I’d bet that most of the defenders in the EPL would have him near the top of the list in players they least want to face.

Better still he would be our ‘Beast’ and better than Dost IMO.

Hearing we are also looking at Townsend who I think would be a fantastic signing . Townsend and Aarons would destroy full backs and if Austin is in the middle he is sure to hit 20 goals with that kind of service especially with De Jong behind him :

    ——Townsend——–De Jong——–Aarons——–
    —————————Austin————————–

Yes Please, Flying wingers like the Keegan days 😉 .

Too many of the youngsters are not young enough, all them will take up valuable squad places and will be reasons why we can’t bring other players in. Buckie deserves a shot, AbeI’d should definitely stay. Fergie & Sammy should be out of the door
