Sky Sports is reporting that both Newcastle and Derby County are interested in signing Hull City winger Tom Ince,
And that’s not surprising because Tom wasn’t doing much at Hull City and he went on loan to Derby County last February and scored 11 goals in just 18 games for Steve McClaren’s team last season.
Tom Ince – 23 year-old Hull winger
Ince still has one year left on his two year deal with Hull, after he joined them last year on a free transfer from Blackpool.
It’s not surprising Derby are interested in him, and with Steve McClaren now at Newcastle, it seems Steve McClaren is interested in bringing the 23 year-old to Newcastle.
However, the fee for Ince – with only one year left on his contract is thought to be around £4M – and that seems a bit much for a player who has never proved he can perform at the highest level – and played only 13 times for Hull with one goal last season before being shipped out to Derby.
Tom played very well for Steve last season at Derby, and the youngster could be persuaded to come to Newcastle – although the fact he didn’t make much headway for Hull in the first half of last season suggests he would be a risk at Newcastle.
But Steve McClaren has big money available this summer from Mike Ashley – by his own admission – and the owner has given the go ahead for the new Newcastle Board of Directors to start bringing new players into the club, to significantly strengthen the squad.
Tom started his career at Liverpool before moving to Blackpool in 2011, where he spent three good seasons and in 113 games for the Seasiders he scored 33 goals and looked an impressive young player.
Newcastle have been interested in Tom for a few years now – so perhaps we can get the 18 times capped England U21 Intentional into the club this summer.
