If the news is to be believed over the last day or two, Newcastle have moved in for several of our top targets – and while some of the reports will be false, Newcastle do need to now move quickly to get some new players into the club.
22 year-old Juanmi – in action for Malaga
Newcastle have been interested in 22 year-old Malaga striker Juanmi all this year, and he recently made his debut for the full Spanish side.
There is news that Juanmi’s agent is now in England seeking a deal for his client, but it’s not known if clubs other than Newcastle are interested in the youngster, who scored eight goals in 32 appearances for Malaga last term.
Jimenez has come through Malaga’s Youth Academy and he made his first-team debut back in January 2010 in a Copa del Rey away match against Getafe CF, and he scored in a 5-1 defeat for Malaga, and he was only 16 years old.
In September of the same year 17-year-old Juanmi started at Real Zaragoza, and scored two goals to become the youngest player to score two goals in one game in the Spanish League.
Juanmi has played for the Spanish U17, U18 and U19 sides and he was in the Spanish side that won two consecutive UEFA European U-19 Championships, scoring two goals in the 2011 tournament in Romania.
In March he was called up to the senior Spanish national team for the first time by coach Vicente del Bosque, after Diego Costa had to withdraw with a hamstring injury.
The youngster was on the bench in Spain’s 1-0 home win over Ukraine on March 28th in a qualifier for Euro 2016, and then made his debut in the 2-0 defeat against Holland in Amsterdam three days later.
He has now played 93 times for Malaga with 20 goals and 6 assists and that’s a good record for one so young.
Newcastle seem to have a number of strikers on their list including Charlie Austin of QPR, Chelsea’s Patrick Bamford, West Brom’s Saido Berahino and Wolfsburg’s Bas Dost – and the news is that we are trying to bring in two of them.
Charlie Austin seems to be our number one target, and who is next in priority on the list is a good question – but any one of the reaming four – including young Juanmi would appear to be good acquisitions for the club.
Newcastle may even bring one of the strikers in on loan for the season.
Juanmi has a release clause in his contracts which is said to be around £5M – so he would come fairly cheap given the potential of the Spanish youngster.
